Jean Lafitte is considered to be one of the most interesting men that has ever lived. He was captain of a ship, and leader of a crew. He was also a nice man. For example, there was a small vessel struggling to get to shore and as they saw the brig Laffite was on he rescued them and nurtured them back to full health. The family he saved were not the only ones that accounted for his extreme and plentiful acts of bravery and kindness(or thievery). But don't forget, he was a sneaky little pirate. At least that is what people thought about him. He grew up in the area of Cedar Bayou, which is mainly swampland, and was training to be an evil, sneaky pirate. He captured and sold slaves in his early pirating career. For a short period of time he became the self named ruler of the republic(which means …show more content…
he made himself the ruler in his mind).
He had four brothers growing up but he lost them when he ran away from his family. He ran away because he was forced to work in a store that did not please him very well because of the labor it required. Later in his life Jean was ousted from the U.S. Navy in 1821(due to them knowing that he was a former pirate). He also decided that he would quit being a pirate and move on to a better lifestyle. Years after he ran away he found his brother Pierre in a blacksmith shop which is where his brother worked. Even though he quit pirating he still had “warrants” out for his acts of thievery. For example Governor Claiborne still had an arrest warrant for Jean Lafitte for stealing something of his.His legacy is probably the most interesting things about him. Old legends persist that Lafittte frequently branched out from his own headquarters(his house) in the Cedar Bayou area to multiple secluded
bays like Copano so he could have routes to escape from the people he stole from. He was also one of the most successful pirates in U.S. history because of how evasive and slippery he was. He barely ever got caught by whom he stole from but when he did he managed to escape from their grasp(like I said he was very “slippery”). Due to his success in his pirating career he was very respected by his other pirating buddies that knew him. That kinda makes me want to be a really good pirate just to get respect(not really I am really bad at being sneaky). As you can see Jean Lafitte had a wonderful job application because of all the accomplishments he acquired due to his pirating career under his belt. He had a lot of experience from pirating. He also had a kind and warming heart when others needed a shoulder to cry on. He was one of the most important men in all of U.S. history.
