It was August 2012, my family and I were back to school shopping at Jcpenney. At the time I was 13 years old. Never have I had such a heart dropping experience like the one I had in Jcpenney. I am the oldest sibling, then it is my brother Edgar, Gared, and last but not least Melany. The youngest one, she was four years old, and of course like every other four year old she liked to play around, and was distracted. As I had mention we were back to school shopping. We had been shopping all day long, so my mom was annoyed. Therefore, my dad took the kids to play in the playground that use to be outside of Jcpenney, while me and my mom finished shopping. Meanwhile, my mom and I continued shopping. We kept on hearing the voice of a lady that

Hip-hop music is my favorite genre of music because the way I grew up I can relate to a lot of the things it portrays. I also enjoy R&B and gospel music because it is what listened to as a child. Some hip-hop artist I enjoy are Fabulous, Andre 3000 and T.I. because a lot of their music tells a story and gives life lessons. J Cole is my favorite hip-hop artist because he makes great music, he is a philanthropist and he uses his platform to speak and act on social issues.

Jermaine Cole, otherwise known as J. Cole, is an American hip hop artist based out of New York City. Earlier in his career his music was notorious for having a gangster sound to it due to the lyrics and beats that the songs possessed. Though in his most recent albums Cole’s sound began to change drastically. It was seen a tiny bit in his earlier album ”2014 Forest Hills Drive”, but when “4 Your Eyes Only” dropped, his most recent album, listeners were able to see an entirely different side of him. I am determined to go about things at an advanced pace which is why I believe I should be part of the National Junior Honor Society.

Today in America, personal ambition serves the common good. Motivates successful individuals drive social and economic progress and set strong examples for others. In order to help the common good, the common good must first help themselves. Instead of relying on others and the government for assistance, we should all reflect on ourselves and see what we can do for ourselves. If everyone helped themselves no one would need to be helped. Reliance on others is a huge problem with in our society, including a reliance on the government, other citizens and technology, and a reliance on others to help us achieve everyday activities. If we all tried self helping ourselves the world would be a much better place.
