A small guy with big accomplishments was born on December 31,2000 clueless to his huge future. Jayesh Raithatha was born in Pasadena, California at the Huntington Memorial Hospital right before the new year celebration. Growing up as a young boy Jayesh has always preferred that people refer him as Jay instead of Jayesh. Jay has been in the Temple City School District for all his life, going to Emperor Elementary School as a kindergartener, to now Temple City High School as a ninth grader freshman. The life of Jay Raithatha has never been boring with his past achievements, present works and hobbies, and his goals and dreams for the future.
As a young adolescent, Jay has never settled for anything less but the highest possible result that can be given. Such can be said, as his whole elementary school grades were filled with straight A’s, and in middle school getting a 4.0 GPA for an entire year. He has been playing the clarinet for over seven years, while joining the Temple City Music program, and plays the occasional guitar. Jay says that,” Grades are not for my parents, but for my future and I,” (Jayesh Raithatha). He not only worries about himself but takes the initiative to make a better

future for himself. Jayesh Raithatha now a fourteen year old teenager, has his life starting a course and a smart plan to shape his future. But first as teenagers grow up they seem to develop their own sense of style, and Jay is no exception. He seems to love to wear button up t-shirts and a pair of vans or converse, while styling his hair after the actor Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash. His love for The Flash stems from his passion for running, and is the reason he joined the cross country team here at the high school. “Running is something that I really love to do, and benefits in many ways. It helps me stay fit and also can later in the future help me win scholarships.” (Jayesh Raithatha.) Not only planning for the future already, but Jay is doing something he enjoys to help his goal. His favorite activities include longboarding and skateboarding which he seems to do everyday, and is the reason why he has many scars on his legs. Another hobby that he enjoys more than skateboarding is watching netflix, Jay loves to watch comedy movies and the occasional Disney movies such as frozen. Jay has efficiently split his time for hobbies, extracurricular activities, and school so that he can enjoy everything together and not feel stressed. Goals are the result or achievement toward which effort is directed, and that goals help prioritize your future, and set your path. “Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there,” (Bo Jackson, ESPN), which Jay first heard of when it was a rainy day in eighth grade and for PE he watched an inspirational video on Bo Jackson.
This statement by Bo Jackson has inspired Jay to realize that he can do anything, as long he doesn’t stop until he fulfills his goal. One goal that Jay has set for the future is to become the next CEO of Apple and to help make the company even more popular than it is now. California Institute of Technology is considered of the top universities of the world, and has an eight percent acceptance rate, and is Jay’s future college that he is applying for. By trying to enter this college, Jayesh has set the bar very high for himself, and if he succeeds he will always know that if he tries he can always overcome any challenge set before
him. The goals in life, the achievements you’ve done, and the hobbies you do will always change the future. Jayesh Raithatha has shown that by achieving the highest results possible whether in grades or awards. He has also done hobbies or extracurricular activities such as cross country or band that offers scholarships to certain colleges such as CAL TECH, and many more. By setting goals, he has a race to run and a finish line to pass. The life of Jayesh Raithatha from the beginning of his life till now has been one long adventure, that will never end. Also, in the future when writing about the newest CEO of Apple, the biographers will start the biography with a big man with accomplished goals.

Cedric is an unusual student to walk the halls of Ballou High. Unlike most of his peers, he actually wants to make something of himself; he does his homework, he studies and he works on extra credit projects. The majority of the kids at Ballou barely come to class, much less make any attempt at learning. Since this is the overall attitude of the school, Cedric must exercise social mobility and do whatever he can to better himself as an individual. He is not necessarily competing against the students at Ballou (because he by far surpasses them), but he is in competition with all the other students from better schools throughout the area. During the summer that Cedric spends at MIT, he is truly awakened to the fact that he was extremely far behind the other students from urban areas. The director of the program expresses his frustration with the MIT program- "When he first arrived... He had grand plans to find poor black and Hispanic kids from urban America-... Jischke is the perfect example of an ordinary American who surpassed his limited boundaries. He proves that an American can come from a humble background and still move up in the success ladder. Martin C. Jischke is firm believer that the American Dream lies in the hands of our future graduates (75). After all, he was the president of Purdue University for almost eight years; as he gives the commencement speech he says the American Dream entails more than financial success, and more than popularity, that it is a matter of opportunity (Jischke 75). The power to gain knowledge freely, learn from past mistakes, and achieve the previously unachievable, is what the American dream has to offer (Jischke 76).
Students encounter many complications during their school career. Some students are smart, but just don’t apply themselves, or have similar hardships that are going on in their lives. These can be fixed if one can find motivation and confidence. In the story “Zero,” Paul Logan coasts through high school and college. Which in this case he gets an ugly jacket; which causes him to be depressed and his grades to fall. Albeit Logan and Soto went through similar hardships, they both succeed with motivation and confidence.
George Helmholtz, as the head of the music department at Lincoln High School, is very determined with his regular students and the gifted musicians of the band. Each semester and year at school he dreams of “leading as fine a band as there was on the face of the earth. And each year it came true”. His certainty that it was true was because he believed there was no greater dream than his. His students were just as confident and in response, they played their hearts out for them. Even the students with “no talent played on guts alone” for Helmholtz.
