Jacques Cartier the Explorer Have you ever wondered who discovered Canada? The person who I am talking about is Jacques Cartier. He was born in France in 1491. He lived until he was 66 and died of typhus in September 1, 1557. Jacques Cartier was a very important historical figure because he was very brave and discovered Canada. Jacques Cartier’s had a fairly luxurious childhood. Jacques Cartier was born in a small town in Brittany, France called Saint Malo. He was born on December 31, 1491 into the wealthy Cartier family. His father was named Jamet Cartier and his mother was named Geffine Jansart. He had seven siblings in all, five full siblings and two half
siblings. When he was young he learned how to sail with Giovanni da Verrazzano. Jacques Cartier had a very good childhood. Jacques Cartier influenced a lot of people and he was influenced a lot. Jacques Cartier was a French navigator and Explorer. He discovered Many things in Canada. He also came up with the name which later became Ontario. He married Catherine des Granches. He made three major voyages, and on the first one he found what is now Canada. He was taught how to navigate and sail by the man who found New York harbor. Jacques Cartier made a lot of accomplishments. On Jacques Cartier’s first found Canada. He also found many things in Canada. On his first voyage he found Prince Edward Island and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. On his second voyage he sailed all of the Saint Lawrence river and found Montreal. On his third voyage he went back to Canada and found a lot of what they thought were gold and diamonds. When they got back they found out the “gold” and “diamonds” turned out to be not worth anything. After that incident France did not explore for more than half a century. Jacques Cartier did many things in his lifetime. He was born and lived in Saint Malo, Brittany for all of his life. He made an entire country French. He also discovered many things in that country called Canada. Jacques Cartier should be remembered for a long time for all of the many incredible things he has done.
Samuel de Champlain, who’s known as “The Father of New France” was a French explorer during the 17th century. He also was a navigator, cartographer, soldier, administrator, and chronicler of New France. He is famous for discovering Lake Champlain, Quebec City, and he helped establish the governments of New France.
Champlain’s first voyage trip was with his uncle-in-law, Saint Julien, a great navigator and sea voyageur. Julien was transporting Spanish soldiers to Cadiz in the pursuit of a treaty with the Vervins. Champlain got an opportunity to accompany his uncle for his first navigation trip. He made another voyage to West Indies and Mexico. In any navigation he made, he took notes, learnt new things and submitted a report to King Henry. He legally acquired the voyage ship and property after his uncle died leaving Champlain financially stable to make further exploration works. He served in the king’s court as a geographer. His first trip to the Northern America was to observer trade expedition that the King had assented to him. In Canadian history there are many famous people. In my mind one really stands out among the rest. His name is Terry Fox and he is one of the greatest athlete to run on the face of this planet. Terry discovered he had cancer and then decided to run across Canada. He was a brave man who would take what the world through at him. Running across Canada was his way to show the world that he was not going out with out a fight.

The public didn't approve with much of what King Louis did. His lack of ability to be a strong king and leader affected his reputation to the public eye. King Louis was tried for committing treason to the country of France. Treason is the attempt to kill a sovereign and overthrow the government. He sailed and navigated other great explorers like Lewis and Clark and Henry Hudson, but in 1492 he was called upon for a solo expedition by the King of France. Jacques Cartier’s goals was to find a Northwest Passage to India, find the lands with spices, and find new places to trade. Cartier had a series of three voyages in his expedition which is what he is famously known for. Cartier started to sail in 1534, arriving 20 days later to explore the west coast of Newfoundland and the Gulf of St. Lawrence, discovering some new lands. Cartier return back home to tell the king about his expedition, he also brought back Native American Captives.

Sir George-Étienne Cartier was a lawyer, politician, rebel and co-premier of the province of Canada; born September 6, 1814 in Saint-Antoine and died on May 20, 1873 in London, England. He was a former rebel against the government in 1837 and also was Canada`s first minister of militia and defence. Sir George-Ètienne Cartier may have been the most important person in Confederation because he brang French Canada, Manitoba and British Columbia into the Dominion.
