Proper influences are used sometimes in society to support restrict our impulses towards immorality. Moral concepts and beliefs are the only moderations holding the individuals back from performing terrible actions. In the novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding illustrates the
“evil” suppressed in everybody. Jack one of the main characters in the story, arrives in the deserted island an arrogant and supercilious choir boy, who at the beginning cries because he was not elected chief; however; as time progresses, he became uncivilized, truculent and not longer cares about humanity. Ultimately, Jack’s transformation reveals that people are selfish and egocentric when they reach for power and authority.
Initially, Jack exhibit his insolent personality, that is being shown when he insist to be known by his last name Merridrew, presenting a clear demonstration of his superiority complex.
Also he as “the most obvious leader” attempts to seize control undemocratically presenting him as a possible dictator, but in irony he is not chosen “leader” (17) making him feel humiliated, proving that being a leader is not just seem like; a leader is a person who takes and guides a group to a certain direction or goal and not just designate tasks and responsibilities. Additionally his physical descriptions showed him as “ugly, without silliness” (14), which immediately presents Jack in a different and negative way, such as the anarchy, power, bloodlust and ambition that he represents. Also, from the very beginning he seems to harbor emotions of anger and savagery; however; some animalistic skills started to emerge including the “dog-like” (43) that exhibits the wild part of human personality and behavior, for exampl...

Truly Jack changes through his short stay on the island; he illustrated the true selves of humanity, completely full of envy and selfishness, with a desire of power. Unfortunately this is not something that is just present on this fictional island. Violence continues to endure in modern society and is regularized in the military and politics. Golding promote his theme by having his characters build a democratic association, which is overwhelmed by the verbal disturbances of
Jack’s power-plays, and a group of hunters, which finally designs a modest military dictatorship.
Power is not generally bad, but each individual contains an evil desire to posses it, and with this truculent feelings and actions emerge, demonstrating the reality of what people call society.
