Jack Smith was a retired Physics Professor when I met him. He was a tall, thin man with straight fair hair and brown eyes. He was in my city for a touristic visit and I was his guide for two weeks. It was the second week and his story began with a simple question. I saw some scars on his left arm and I asked him how those scars happened. My questions followed each other. There the story began. Me: What happened to your arm? Jack: Not only my arm. Me: Where else? Jack: The real and deeper wounds were here, on my tummy and my back. Me: Oh my God! Where did this happen? Jack: In the second World War. Me: Really? Did you really attend the war? Jack: Yes. I was in the war for almost five years. Me: Tell me please, please! Then the story of Jack Smith started. …show more content…
All except Jack became war pilots. Jack couldn’t because of a deficiency which in deed saved his life. He was colour blind. All his friends, in their first flight got shot and died. Jack didn’t know what to feel… Life was still going on and it gave him another chance to continue. He sighed deeply and thought about his fiancé. He was such a fool to leave her behind and come to war. Was it worth to be there? Was it worth to kill or to be killed for any reason? Drowning in all these regrets, he fell asleep. When he woke up, he knew there was nothing but to fight. It was not him that can run away. He stayed, fought in many battles in the freezing cold of Russia. After a long time, he was sent to Egypt. There he got the box from his fiancé that was supposed to come to him in Russian cold; A beret, a scarf and a pair of gloves…. No one else could have been happier than Jack to have received these in the desert of Egypt. He read his fiancé’s letter again and again. Tears were dropping from his eyes. Ohhhh what a heavy grief he was feeling deep in his

Jack Burden is known as the “student of history” ( Warren 372). The very fact that he is a historian is ironic, as he has come from an aristocratic and reputable family and grew up in Burden’s Landing. However, Jack lacks the ambition needed to excel in life and works for Willie, despite the disapproval of this family. He “not only lacks ambition, but all ‘essential confidence’ in himself” (Bloom 132). If he had ambition, he could have married Anne Stanton earlier, as Anne would always tell him to “go on back to State and finish up” and then she will marry him “even before [he] gets [his] law degree” (448). Yet, Jack forced himself to get kicked out of school. Even as a historian, Jack cannot deal with new things he learns about people he is closely associated with. After he learned that Lois was actually a person and not “merely a luscious machine” he went into one of series of the Great Sleep ( Warren 459). After he learned about Anne Stanton and Willie’s affair, Jack temporarily escaped to the West because “when [people] don’t like whey [the] are [they] always go West” (Warren 464). Jack was not able to cope with this news that he had to leave to relieve his mind. In addition, as a historian, he does not delve into his own past. Concerning his father, he only knew that the Scholarl...
I also don't own the idea, it was requested to me by the wonderful Amanda. Thank you so much! I hope I did this idea justice.
Ralph sat on the edge of the old bed, a sigh leaving his lips. He always had a hard time sleeping after he and the other boys had been saved nearly two years ago. Over the course of the two years, the war had ended with both sides realizing neither could win. Moscow, London, Washington D.C., Paris, and Berlin had all been obliterated, leaving only a ghostly set of ruins, and violent memories.
In conclusion, Jack was overall an unique leader and person, he went from killing pigs to killing humans, and being the nicest person, to not so nice. With great power comes great responsibility; having determination, being intelligent, and possessing great outdoors skills, is what Jack had to be, to be a great

In this passage, Jack is doing his nightly routine of saying goodnight to different objects in Room that are important to him. He is taught, through the choice of his Ma,...
Ma begins to create routines in order to keep Jack and herself busy. "We have thousands of things to do every morning, like give Plant a cup of water . . .” (8). It is easy for them to cope with the tragedy they are enduring by occupying themselves, rather than ruminating on their poor way of living. Ma can be exceptionally brave but, still relies on Jack to remain in control.
(114). When this situation happened, it is obvious that even though Jack does not like to listen and follow other people’s rules, when it comes to a matter of saving his own life, he will listen. This showing, when someone
London had made a daring character in his first short story. That was evident, being that one of the first sentences of the story was “ Never travel alone, a precept of the North, he heard many times, but just laughed.” The reason why Jack had changed this characteristic in the second version could be because he had too much confidence. In the 1906 story the main character was very naive. He did not think much about how he should try to survive after finding out he probably wouldn’t be to the camp with the boys any time soon.
Accompanying such a comment the laughter slowly dies out, and then the music continued. Urgently trying to convey, the stranger refused to recognize the flow of questions, in conclusion, Abram soon exercised a conceivable method. Sharing his life path with this stranger triggered an awakening within. Abram commented on his Father’s success, a renowned heart surgeon. The music abruptly ceased, the stranger asked one question, ‘Where does he work?’
Since the beginning of the story Jack had wanted to be the leader instead of Ralph, and he had a vendetta against him because of this. When Ralph started to lose control of the boys, Jack stepped up and made his own tribe of savages. Jack was not the best leader, but he was able to control the boys and make them do whatever he wanted. Jack was a very bloodthirsty boy. He was so obsessed with hunting to the point that it was all he cared about.
According to the film, Jack finds an open bar with a sketchy bartender named Lloyd, who encourages Jack to “correct” his family. After watching the movie a thousand more times, it is made clear that Jack is in a world all of his own, and is having a hallucinogenic fit, maybe induced by drinking too much alcohol. After being sober for five months, Jack’s drinking problem came back and had detrimental effects on the
