A famous and talented writer was born on January 12, 1876, (Jacklondon.com). Jack London made a huge impact on lives today, and many of the things he wrote are studied in classes to this date. His writings have been a huge part of writing through the years, and many people have based their writings off of his. He wrote a lot of different stories, plays, novels, and other Writings, (the book Jack London).
Jack London was born in San Francisco, California on January 12, 1876 and died in Glen Ellen, California on November 22, 1916, (Jacklondon.com). London was one of the most famous and talented writers of the 20th century and he has influenced many writings in the 21st century. Jack London was the youngest child of five children. The name Jack was given when he was born was actually Jack Griffith Chaney, (the book Jack London).
At the age of seventeen London set sail to sea. He hated it so much that after the first three days he decided to devote his life to writing, and that he would become a writer after he got off that boat. According to Jacklondon.com, when he turned twenty one he enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley. When he found out that his mother had attempted suicide he looked through all the newspapers and newsletters for anything about it, he also looked for the name of his true father. He thought that William Chaney might have been his father, but after writing to him and receiving a letter back stating that Chaney could not have kids he figured out that his mother had affairs with at least one other man, (Jacklondon.com).

The writings of Jack London will never be forgotten, and his stories will always be told in one form or another. London had so many ideas from his own past experiences and this helped him show how much detail he can put into one novel, essay, short story, play, etcetera His ideas have helped other people get a base on what they want to do or write about. Sometimes life isn't always about how long you live; it's more about how people live it and what they make of it. Jack London is a prize example if this.
Christopher McCandless had always admired the works of Jack London. He even went as far as naming Jack London “king”. McCandless relished the naturalisitc elements of London’s writings, elements that he chose to ignore in his own life. Jack London often depicted men as being controlled by their environment and being unable to withstand any heavy circumstances. He depicted themes about the frailty of man and man’s inability to overcome nature. But McCandless clearly did not take away any of the valuable lessons from these stories. He hailed London as “king” but never truly learned from London’s stories, dying in a tragically ironic way when he came to meet the same fate as the protagonist in Jack London’s “To Build a Fire”. All of his experience and knowledge are shown through his novels. A reader can tell, just in reading a novel by Steinbeck, that he had been through a lot throughout his life. Also, Steinbeck worked very hard to accomplish everything that he did during his lifetime. Nothing came very easily to him, and he had to earn everything he owned. This helped him in his writing, because he was able to write about real people and real experiences. John Steinbeck got his inspiration from life experiences, people he knew, and places he had gone.

Robert Louis Stevenson was born on November 13, 1850 in Scotland. Being the only son of a famous civil engineer, Stevenson was expected to continue the family tradition, but this was against his wishes for his life. At an early age, he exhibited a yearning to write, and although he could not read until he was seven or eight, he composed stories and dedicated them to his parents and nurse. Stevenson was not brought up by the most caring parents, and received most of his adolescent guidance from his nurse. Throughout his child, the nurse cared for him and instilled in him the Christian beliefs that undoubtedly shaped his novels. The nurse would read to him from the bible during his periods of bed rest, as he was a sickly child, and these daily readings instilled in him a love for storytelling. Although he was a sickly child, he managed to receive a decent education through some schooling, private tutoring and at the efforts of his nurse and was able to enroll in Edinburgh University when he was 17.

There are many authors in this world, but there are also many legends. Legends who changed the face of literature. One of these legends was none other than Ernest Hemingway. Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21st, 1899, in Oak Park, Illinois. He was born to a physician and former opera performer named Clarence and Grace. Hemingway showed a talent in writing when he was in high school. He wrote for the school’s newspaper and yearbook. After he graduated at the age of 17 in 1916, he began his writing career as a reporter for a newspaper called, the Kansas City Star. After he worked as a reporter for six months, he dropped out because he wanted to join the U.S army during World War I. But because he failed the medical test, he joined the American Field Service Ambulance Corps in Italy. Unfortunately, while he was delivering supplies, Hemingway was wounded, which ended his career as an ambulance driver. Because of this, he spent lots of time in hospitals and met a nurse named Agnes von Kurowsky, with whom he fell in love with. Sadly, she didn’t return his feelings so Hemingway was heartbroken. This incident inspired him to write one of his well known books, “A Farewell to Arms”. Like this book, many other of his famous works came to be because of incidents in his past. His pieces of literature started to be known and read worldwide which provided him a route to become one of the most celebrated authors of his time.
