JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The Lord of the Rings is set in Middle-earth, a fictional world created by Tolkien. Mystical creatures such as Hobbits, Orcs, trolls, ents, elves, wangs, wizards, dragons, dwarves and men inhabit middle-earth. Middle-earth is a magical world in which imagination rules, but it exists very much like "real" society, with political and economic problems and power struggles. Each of the races that inhabit this world have their own territories and are distinct from one another.
My favorite character in this book is Sam Gamgee. Sam is the son of Ham Gamgee, and is also Frodo’s curious gardener. Sam turns out to be one of the crucial characters in the success of the quest. Not only does he accompany Frodo; he also risks his own life for Frodo. Sam is my favorite character because he is faithful to his friends, keeps his promises, and protects his companions.
This book is very long, and there are a lot of important scenes, so my summary will be quite extensive.
As the book starts out, the camp is attacked by a band of Orcs and Boromir is killed. Before he breathes his last breath, Boromir tells Aragorn that the Orcs have carried off the other Hobbits. Aragorn tells Gimli (a dwarf) and Legolas (a elf) that he thinks Frodo and Sam have gone alone to Mordor and that they themselves should follow the Orcs and not Frodo.
Meanwhile, Pippin and Merry, in the custody of the Orcs, lie captive awaiting their fates. Somehow, Pippin gets hold of a knife and cuts his bonds, and ties a loose knot around his wrists. Pippin manages to break free, but is caught. He loses consciousness and only regains it when the Orcs stop. Eomer and his men attack the Orcs and Merry and Pippin manage to escape into Fangorn (a forest).
The Hobbits run as fast as they can into the forest, finally stopping for a drink of water. They come upon a sort of rock wall and climb up strange stairs, where they meet an ent, or Treebeard, as he calls himself. The next day Treebeard takes the Hobbits to a meeting of ents at entmoot. After that, they march to Isengard. The ents are angry at Saruman, their neighbor, who cuts down their trees and burns them without reason and who also trains Orcs not to be afraid of Fangorn.
There are a lot of characters in the Hobbit. Most if not all of them
This is my personal reflection about this book. First and foremost, I would like to say that this book is very thick and long to read. There are about nineteen chapters and 278 pages altogether. As a slow reader, it is a quite hard for me to finish reading it within time. It took me weeks to finish reading it as a whole. Furthermore, it is written in English version. My English is just in average so sometimes I need to refer to dictionary for certain words. Sometimes I use google translate and ask my friends to explain the meaning of certain terms.
The Hobbit continues with more walking. Thorin’s company tends to do this quite often. They have escaped the goblins only to be trapped by wolves, which are the goblin’s allies. They are rescues by the Great Eagles, who drop them off by an unusual, ancient individual. This individual, who happens to be a shape-shifter, goes by the name of Beorin. Beorin decides to help the company and escorts them to the edge of the dreadful Mirkwood Forest. Gandalf leaves the company to enter the dim woods alone, and without support. The group gets captured by giant spiders, and are surprisingly rescued by the heroic Bilbo, who managed to escape the spiders due to his ring. The company, minus Thorin, is then apprehended by wood-elves, who take them to their
Once the fictitious thought of slaying dragons and fighting off trolls becomes a reality for Bilbo Baggins, he learns the truth about the importance of being unique in the astounding novel, “The Hobbit” by JRR Tolkien. JRR Tolkien captivates a variety of readers with this story about an introverted hobbit whos lives in a hole in the ground and the open opportunity he chooses for adventure. At the beginning, he believed he wasn't tolerable for this enterprise, but he began to realize he became essential to hs fearful mission. Thirteen dwarves showed at his door and demanded his help, so he left his small town and followed the unknown dwarves. This journey demanded a lot of physical endurance including an abiding fight with trolls. Bilbo endures until the end and he ends as a greater hobbit. In “The Hobbit” by JRR Tolkien, three main sections, the departure, initiation, and the return become clear, and Bilbo Baggins changes tremendously in these sections.
The dwarves don’t hear from Bilbo, so they come closer to the fire to find out what happened. The trolls stop bickering and hide in the trees to capture the dwarves. (Tolkien
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, by J.R.R. Tolkien, is the first book in the fantasy-based trilogy of the Lord of the Rings. The book begins with Bilbo Baggins celebrating his one hundred and eleventh birthday. After his party, he then decides to leave everything behind and join a Fellowship, which has a task of destroying the ruling ring, which will give supreme power to whoever has possession of it.
The story starts with the 33rd birthday-party for Frodo Baggans, and the 111th birthday party for Bilbo Baggans, Hobbits who live in a mythical land called the Shire. Frodo’s best friend is his gardner Sam. Frodo owns a magic Ring which makes him invisible when he wears it, a gift from his cousin Bilbo who stole it from Gollum years ago.
The Hobbit, written by John R. R. Tolkien, is a fantasy novel published on September 21, 1937. It was written as a prelude to the famous series, The Lord of the Rings, written seventeen years later. The Hobbit introduces the reader to an incredibly immersive fantasy world, that enriches the reader into its epic storyline. The story takes place in a land called Middle-earth, a land filled with enchanting surprises and magical wonders. It was the perfect playground for Tolkien to develop his main character Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo Baggins was a small hobbit, who unaware in the beginning would become a large role in the plot. It is through this character that Tolkien implemented the theme of heroism into the story. Bilbo’s unexpected adventure with the dwarves and the wizard gave him the opportunity to develop into the ultimate hero of Tolkien’s tale. Bilbo’s epic journey to become the hero of the story begins when Gandalf, the wizard, tells Bilbo of an expedition that would soon change his life forever.
Sam’s love of Frodo is of the greatest importance. Without Sam, Frodo wouldn’t have made it to Mt. Doom, or consequently saved the world. “Frodo wouldn’t have got far without Sam”, Sam gives Frodo the courage to carry on, and bear his burden. Though Sam is Frodo’s servant, their relationship is that of best friends. When Smeagol killed his best friend to obtain the ring, a stark contrast is drawn between those two and Sam and Frodo. In this comparison it is important to note that Sam never tried to steal the ring as his love was too strong to allow the seduction of power, even when Sam has the chance to leave Frodo and take the ring for himself, “it was the love of his master that helped the most to hold him firm”. This love made it possible for Sam to reject the ring, and therefore save his master, leading to the destruction of Sauron.
It is likely for one to assume that a classic piece of literature set in a fantasy oriented stage will have no merits to the youths of today. The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, however, with its crafty of usage symbolism, displays its relevance to issues that often trouble teens. As the story progresses from a children’s tale to an epic, the main character Bilbo undergoes a series of development, his experiences often overlapping with ordinary people. Reading the Hobbit will provide teens with opportunities of exploring the importance of several common but serious topics. People may encounter many of the themes presented in the book elsewhere repeatedly, but it’s possible that they never appreciated the applications it might have on themselves. When teens read the Hobbit, they perceive it as a simple fiction of adventure. Under proper guiding, they will be able to recognize and utilize the lessons of the Hobbit, and improve their attitudes and ideas about life.
The book begins with Bilbo Baggins celebrating his one hundred and eleventh birthday. Many "Hobbits" show up at his party including his third cousin, Frodo, which is the main character of the novel and a powerful wizard named Gandalf. Biblo possed a powerful ring known as the "Ruling Ring" which gives "Supreme Power" to whoever has possession of it. At the end of the party, Bilbo uses his magical ring to turn invisible and stun his guests. Gandalf, the powerful wizard, then meets up with Biblo at his house and takes the ring from Bilbo, which is corrupting him. Gandalf examines it, realizing that the ring Bilbo has is the powerful "Ruling Ring". Knowing that the forces of evil are in search of the ring, Gandalf sends Frodo, a relative of Biblo, to destroy the ring in the only place it can be destroyed, "Mt. Doom". Overhearing the talk between Gandalf and Frodo, Sam, a "Hobbit", that is good friends with Frodo is forced on the quest to aid Frodo.
That is the second important place the characters traveled in the book. The final place the characters from the novel the hobbit went is The troll cave .The troll cave scene gives a lot of info about the transition from them sleeping in a cave to them being in the troll cave.iN chapter four ,It explains that They were sleeping in the cave ,and the trolls acme in took their horses ,and took them as prisionser that is how the got to the troll cave ,but befor they got to the troll cave ghandolf disapeerded..then alot of talking happened after the prisoners got searched, then one of the dwarves pulled out an ancient sword that has killed alot of trolls. After that Gandolf apperad and then he blew averyone down ,and then saoi fight so they fought. After fighgting a bunch f trolls gandolf killed the troll king by slicing his throat. The all of the dwarves fell and that was the end of chapter
Finally this project ends with a personal comment on the third chapter as well as on the whole book.
In this book review I represent and analyze the three themes I found the most significant in the novel.
