In my opinion, I believe it is wrong to have children if you do not know whether they want to be born or not. This is because it violates the concept of freedom, consent and morality. Julio Cabrera, a philosopher, has stated that giving birth is a violation of autonomy. Autonomy refers to our ability to make our own decisions and choose a path for ourselves. This is because the child was not asked whether or not they wish to be brought into this world. As giving birth is now a violation of consent, it can then be compared to sexual assault. Both are a matter of consent. Rape is a heavy offense that is illegal as it is an act that forcefully violates the body of a person. Therefore, if consent is important in this case, forcefully bringing a child to life is also …show more content…
It is undeniable that being pregnant and being a mother are both enlightening experiences that will help you grow as a person. However, it is not compulsory for women to take this risk. I believe that being pregnant and becoming a mother do not automatically mean you are given a fresh pair of eyes to view the world. It is merely an experience that will provide you with a pair of binoculars to see more of what the world can offer. This situation can be compared to the case of losing your virginity. Losing your virginity does not make you more mature and sophisticated as a person. It simply means you can now tick "losing your virginity" off your life to-do list. It is not necessary to experience motherhood in order to complete womanhood. Not experiencing motherhood does not mean you are lesser as a woman. With reference to Cabrera, giving birth was illustrated as an act of manipulation. To elaborate, when a human is born, they are exposed to situations and environment that are harmful and treacherous. It was described by Cabrera himself that humans are thrusted into a one-way
Pregnancy and the birth of a child throughout many cultures is viewed as a gift, either from God or from any other supernatural figure that they worship. If the pregnancy is terminated for any reason or there are complications it is also viewed in a large group of cultures as a punishment, or because you did not closely follow the rules or regulations of your culture. The process, emotional, and physical stress of bearing a child places mothers and family in a position of opportunity along with placing within them great responsibility. Mothers planning to bear children ideally need to be within the healthy weight range along with being well nourished, but this is not always the case. Many mothers to be are surprised when they realize or are
However, we have reverted back to the case of rape. If a fetus conceived voluntarily has the right not to be aborted due to how it was conceived, then the fetus conceived from rape should also have that same right. Instead of creating a distinction of cases where the fetus has a right to use the body of a pregnant person, Thomson instead makes a distinction of when abortion would be morally wrong.
When it comes to abortion I believe that it should always be left up to the woman to make the decision on whether to keep her baby or not. Having a baby is no eas...
No person has an instinct to be a mother. We are constantly hearing the phrase ‘instinct’ and associating it with motherhood. However, this ‘instinct’ can be blamed more on the idea that all women should procreate as it was stated in the bible to “Be fruitful and multiple”. This idea further developed because before the 1880’s there were no functional contraceptives. So as Rollin so kindly put it,
Bodily autonomy is a concept that is considered to be a human right. Bodily autonomy means that a person has control over who or what uses their body, for what, and for how long. Bodily autonomy is why you cannot be forced to donate your blood, tissue, or organs, even if you’re dead, even in the circumstance that your blood, tissue, and organs would save fifteen lives. Bodily autonomy is why someone cannot touch you, have sex with you, or use your body in any way without your continuous consent. A fetus is using and surviving from somebody else’s body parts. Therefore, under bodily autonomy, the fetus is in that person’s body by permission, not by right, and requires a person’s continuous consent to remain in that position. If the person
Rape is a despicable crime against women. Opinions are heated, and it seems that everybody has something to say about pregnancy in the case of rape. The woman who suffered from the sexual assault are more likely to experience distress after or during an abortion. When a woman gets raped, it isn’t wanted. If one was in that situation they wouldn’t want to constantly think about the fetus and how and when it occurred. One should not be obligated to go through the particular child birth. Who would want to give birth to a baby that would suffer his or her life not knowing who the father
Are you giving it a label to convince me that killing the fetus is not wrong, or are you convincing yourself? This is a mostly ethical point of view on abortion. If a woman is pregnant, she should accept the responsibility of having the child and if she doesn’t want the child, to give it up for adoption. You say it is your right to have control over your body, but where was that control when the child was conceived? As for rape, well, I have a story to tell about the ability to love that child.
In these instances, women have no choice in the matter. If the act of sex was not consensual, making her carry a child for nine months is just cruel. Just image yourself in this type of predicament. Imagine the emotional pain of being raped, imagine waking up every day for the next nine months with a child inside your womb that was forcedly put there against your will. By forcing that woman to carry full term and deliver, you are forcing that woman through a great deal of emotional pain as well as physical pain. You are punishing her for having the ability to carry a child and potentially scarring her for the rest of her life. The woman now has to take care of this baby on her own, a baby that is a constant reminder of the horrible crime of which she was a victim. This child will be at many disadvantages before it is even born such as the resentment from its own mother, having no father around, the possibility of mental and physical deformities from being a product of incest, etc. How is this fair to either the mother or the child? It’s not. If you believe a woman should be forced to give birth no matter what, you are saying that a woman’s life is only important until she is pregnant. You are now classifying her as a vessel, not a human life with rights and
Not a single person should be forced to have a baby they did not decide to have. The individual did not choose to be raped. Some pro-life supporters may suggest adoption, but what if it wasn’t that easy? A pro-life defender does not take in consideration the age of the victim. When thinking about a victim of rape, the first idea that comes to each of our minds is a young woman in high school or out of school, b... ...
The idea of bringing an unwanted baby into the world is wrong in so many ways. I personally believe having a child is an important decision that requires consideration, preparation, and planning. Having both parents to love, protect and care for the child should be the ideal way, but not having any of those would be devastating. According to “ The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Article , it stated that “unintended pregnancies are associated with birth defects, low birth weight , maternal depression, increased risk of child abuse ,lower educational attainment, delayed entry into prenatal care, a high risk of physical violence during pregnancy, and reduced rates of breastfeeding.” (75). As stated in the article, unintended pregnancies can become a result of many risks. I strongly agree with this statement because as I mentioned before a pregnancy requires plenty of consideration. For example, if a woman becomes pregnant and she is a drug addict, she is prone to put the drugs over the baby ,and that baby is likely to be born with some disabilities because of he or she was not taken seriously. In addition, a woman is more likely to become unemployed and therefore the woman would not be able to take care of herself or the baby. Furthermore, what about teenage girls that get pregnant
The responsibility of being pregnant is surely not as sever as actually having a baby but it is truly a preparation course. I feel almost scared when I go to the doctor. I keep close eyes on my food intake and eating habits, so that I can have enough supplements for both of us. I have to keep my baby safe because she can not do it on her own. I have to prepare myself for life with my baby; it is not only a mind set but also a physical one. I have to be prepared to make sacrifice and present stability in a child’s life even though I am still young. I have to face responsibility and understand it and achieve it. I have to face my fears, and run at them so that I may conquer life to the fullest. I must stand on my own feet and make my own decisions because this is my life; no this is our life.
Who should serve as the ultimate decision maker in deciding how many children a person can have? Imagine having a child that does not know what it feels like to have a sibling. In China, the law “One Child Policy” prohibits families from having more than one child. People around the world need to take action and help repeal the law. This law was enacted to keep the population from growing. Many people are starting to rebel and protests brake out and take innocent lives. The “One Child Policy” should be abolished because it violates human rights and creates other problems for China. Although there are some positive effects to this law, the negative effects outweigh the positive ones.
Having a child changes your life completely and you no longer have to attend to your needs first, but you have to first put the baby's needs. There is not a manual to be the perfect parent, but people must have a stable relationship, or if they want to be a single parent they need to give them attention love and also you must have to afford food. The population need to know how important is to be prepared to have a child to raising them correctly and meet the needs of the kid. No everyone has the capacity to become parents the reason is that they need to provide food, cloths, love, care, home and
“ Being a Motherhood is a choice you make every day, to put someone else's happiness and well-being ahead of your own, to teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing even when you're not sure what the right thing is...and to forgive yourself, over and over again, for doing everything wrong.” MMMMM. Being mother is one of the most blessed and the most challenging job in the world. Giving birth to a new life and making it walk through the new world holding its hands showing a good trail makes a mother victorious in her life. In this modern world women’s attitude against pregnancy and being a mother is changing accordingly. There occurs so many miscarriages and maternal death during the pregnancy. A woman should be physically, and more over mentally set to have a baby in her womb. Considering the biological fitness of health it’s said that safer age to be get pregnant is in between 20 to 29. Early pregnancy in the teenage age of 13 to 20 and the delayed motherhood age after 35 is challenging to the health of mother as well as the birth of the child causing currently social issues India.
The miracle of life is something most of us will experience in our lifetime. The process before actually giving birth, I think is the hardest part of the entire scenario of child bearing. This amazing experience is something that can make the individuals who are involved in the process change in so many ways. The process of giving birth, for those of you who have not experienced or will never experience it, can be very hard, long and rewarding all at the same time. To give a better description, think of eating a fireball. At first the fireball is tame and calm, but just when you least expect it the fireball becomes hot. Then, when the hot sensation becomes too much, the sweet flavor of the fireball breaks through.
