Islam and Sikhism are two major monotheistic religions of the world. While Islam emerged in the seventh century CE –more precisely the year 622 CE marks the beginning of the Muslim Era, Sikhism appeared later, during the fifteenth century CE. Comparing the number of believers, Islam is the second-largest and fastest growing major religion in the world with over 1.7 billon followers, while Sikhism is ranked fifth with only about 20 million followers.
The Islamic faith was founded by Muhammad, considered “the last prophet who came to restore the true religion” (Fisher, 2014) by Muslim devotees. Muhammad is not worshipped as a god, but his life and good deeds serve as models for Muslims. The prophet was greatly compassionate and caring and spent
Whereas Muhammad was the last prophet in Islam, Guru Nanak was the first of the ten enlightened Gurus in Sikhism. Despite his Hindu religion, young Nanak was more concerned with spirituality and helping the ones in need than respecting the conventionalism and rigidity of the caste system. At age 30, Nanak’s life was transformed after immersing into a river. It is said that he had not come out for three days and had been taken into the presence of God who fed him and sent him back to the world. Correspondingly to Nanak’s experience, Muhammad experienced the Night of Ascension, when, he ascended through the seven heavens, saw paradise and hell, and met the prophets before
In addition, Sikhs were sworn to wear the five symbols of their faith, also known as the “Five K’s”: “kes or kesh (uncut hair), kangha (comb), kachha (short trousers), kara (steel bracelet), and kirpan (ceremonial sword)” (Britannica, 2016), as symbols of power and equalitarianism. Also conflicting with the Muslim tradition that allows polygamy for those who can afford more than one wife, and doesn’t have strict rules against tobacco, Sikhs are required to abstain from tobacco, adultery, cutting their hair, and the meat of animals slowly bled to death specific to Islam. Influenced by the Hindu traditions, Sikhs believe in karma and reincarnation- elements not found in the Islamic
Sikhism is free from any claims and dogmas. To attain salvation, Sikhism rejects all rites, rituals, and fasts. It rejects the claims of mortification of body, self-torture, penance or renunciation. It does not believe in worship of gods and goddesses, stones, statues, idols, pictures, tombs or crematoriums. Devotees are supposed to desist from working miracles, uttering blessings and curses, and believing in omens. They wear God's name as a necklace and try to practice Nam (remembrance of God's name), Dan (charity) and Ishnan (purity), truthfulness and openness, self-restraint in temper, labor for the purpose of mutual benefit, profitable and edifying speech, humility and forbearance.
Christianity and Sikhism are two completely different religions with their own set of beliefs, though when looked at closer, share many similarities. Catholics and Sikhs only believe in one god, have creators who at birth were told they would do great things, had events at the age of 30 that put the ideas of their religions in motion, and both had followings who eventually took over and made the religions what they are today. Even though these religions have a large gap in time between them of when they were founded, they both share a common founding and similar beliefs.
There are two declarations of faith in Islam: That there is only one God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God. In Memories of Muhammad, Omid Safi explores the ways in which Muhammad – both the historical and spiritual Muhammad – is remembered, commemorated, and contested by Muslims throughout the centuries. Safi focuses on the movements and moments in Muhammad’s life and after his death that for many Muslims best exemplify the teachings of Islam. He succeeds in opening up the dialogue to correct the negative portrayals of Muhammad and the religion of Islam, calling it a “Muhammad problem” in his introduction. Furthermore, he provides a book that is accessible and intelligible to both Muslims and non-Muslims, drawing from historical and spiritual sources, and addresses relevant issues contested between Muslims in relation to other religions, presenting Muhammad as a historical figure and one who is beloved by the Umma.
Secondly, Muhammad is a person who received the Koran’s revelations and founded Islam as a prophet. Muhammad was born in Mecca, and when he became 12, he followed his uncle, and served as a caravan trader. While

Despite being one of the world's largest world religions, Sikhism remains one of the most unknowledgeable and misunderstood traditions in America now. The lack of understanding has brought up too many serious consequences for their community including discriminatory policies, prejudiced stereotypes, shocking school bullying and violent hate crimes. To begin, Sikhism is a religion originated in the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent about the end of the 15th century. It is known as one of the youngest of the major world religions! Christians and Muslims believe in the same heaven and hell, same God despite different names, and same prophets however

The two largest religions in the world, Christianity and Islam, were implemented by two of religions most powerful leaders, Jesus and Muhammad. Without question, both Jesus and Muhammad have affected humanity powerfully. As religious leaders both men laid down the principles upon which Christianity and Islam are founded yet today. However, while Jesus performed miracles and arose from the dead, thus proving to his followers he was God, Muhammad performed no such feats, and made no such claims. In fact, Muhammad’s only claim was that he was the last prophet sent from God.
"God Willed that as a true Sikh I should look upon all religions with one eye".
