People have always wonder if the NBA is rigged or not. Is the NBA rigged? There are a bunch of theories that it is rigged. Also there are a lot of things the NBA brings up that it could make it go either way. A lot of people want to know more about this topic so they know if it is actually rigged or if it is not rigged. There is a lot of evidence and some pretty convincing arguments that suggest that what people see on the hardwood is not what actually happens in the National Basketball Association. Now more and more people are starting to wonder if the National Basketball Association is playing fair or if they are rigging the games.

of the calls are usually right. There are also some calls that are very obviously wrong. But “The vast majority of the calls in the NBA are judgement calls” (Manfred). A lot of NBA fans get mad because some fouls are not actually fouls. But being a NBA fan is questioning the refs, who have to make a lot of difficult or calls that can often change the whole entire game. Those are the calls that make people wonder if they are trying to make a certain team win it or what they are trying to do. The refs did admit it one time that they rigged a game. It was so obvious that they had nothing to say other than yes they did rig the game. They were making bad obvious calls all night that were for sure not fouls. They were taking the not so good players out of the game and leaving the star players in the games. They left the star players in so they would make a lot of money on the game. Refs are trained to not take the good players out of the game. The refs do not want to give the star players a foul that they can give to a not as good player. Some refs will make calls as fare as they can, but it is very hard to judge some of the plays. The NBA league has rigged the NBA draft before. There have been numerous drafts that have been obviously been rigged. The Derick Rose draft is a good example. He was a kid that grew up in Chicago Illinois and was a very good basketball player. The year he was drafted the Bulls were already a good team. He somehow got drafted to the Chicago Bulls when they had a late pick. That makes no sense that the Bulls got Rose when he was that good and that they had such a late pick. But “The benefits of such a scheme, should it exist, are numerous- the most obvious being that seeing how the NBA is a star-driven league, strategically placing stars in major media markets generates interest, which generates ratings, which generate revenue. As a very conspiracy theory, the key is to follow the money” (Consepcion). Some of the theories are is that they have weighted balls in the machine they grab it out of and they go by that. That is the most common theory anyone has herd of. Some others say that the good teams get moved up and claim they need some good players. The drafting of the players seams to be rigged but no one knows for sure. The National Basketball Association has some very concerned fans that get worried about the draft and if it is rigged or not. Former refs that had reffed the NBA are saying that it is fixed. Some former referees that have retired have claimed that the NBA is more than definitely rigged. Also “ The allegations were contained in a letter filed by a lawyer for Donaghy, who pleaded guilty last year to felony charges alleging he took cash from gamblers and bet on games himself” (Basketball). They also say they do it to make the NBA league more money. The retired refs said they would call more fouls on the not so great players so that the fans would stay and buy stuff and watch the stars of the game. Also the refs said that the playoffs are for sure rigged. They said they would make one particular team win it all on purpose. That way they would make more money for the league or team. Another thing that can help make the national basketball association earn some big money is for there to be a lot of playoff games- particularly games with some pretty big stars. They would make the team win with the most fans; then they knew that people would come so they could make more money for that team or the league. Also “But part of being an NBA fan is questioning the refs, who make dozens of difficult, subjective calls that often change the course of a game” (Renee). Some people do not think that the NBA league is rigged at all.
Some think “It’s fantastic. The league is amazing” (Tillery). There are more people that do not think the NBA is rigged than people that do. In every series match up, it is clear which outcome would best benefit the National Basketball Association. That makes the league easy pickings for conspiracy theories. A lot of the people say that the close fouls are just called because they are supposed to be called, but they might not be the best and most perfect calls. The National Basketball League wanted a team to succeed, the league officials would inform refs that opposing players were getting away with violations. They also say that the refs try their hardest to call the game as fair as they can. Some refs do call fair fouls and some of them do not call fair fouls. The other people say why would the NBA want to rig it when people go there just to have fun and chant on their team that they like? The fans just want to see a fun and fare game. They say it is not all about the game, it’s about the experience the fans have at the stadium when they are there. It is about the great atmosphere that people get to be in. People there to have fun not complain how the game is called or how the end result comes …show more content…
out. The players do not care if it is rigged or not.
The players say they are just there to play and work. They do not care if it is rigged as long as they are getting paid and they have a lot of fans to show off in front of. They do not care who there fans are or what they are doing during the game. Also the players do not care because most of them are getting sponsored by a brand that they wear and do not have to pay a thing. All they care is that the League has money for them to spend so they have nice places to play in or practice at and nice warmups wear. “And as with any business in today’s greedy corporate environment, profit is a paramount over any other concern” (International Business). The most important is that they are getting paid very
well. The NBA overall is a fun league. No matter what people think, the NBA is a good league. Most people just want to watch the game and have a good time. They make good money and try to be good to there fans. Even if people think it is rigged or not they are trying to make it a fun time for everyone including players, coaches, and fans. They want the kids there to catch a free t-shirt or a team ball. The kids love it when the players sign there T-shirt’s, basketballs, or even their shoes. The NBA is obviously trying to make more money like any other business so they can afford the nice place they play in. They love the places they play in and they love the fans that come. The whole point of it is to see the best players in the world play basketball and have fun with friends and family. Fans want to see everything the league has to offer.
more calls in their favor i.e. more trips to the free throw line and less foul calls against these players. The end results of this treatment of favorite players would be more points per games, greater stats, winning more games, winning championships and more endorsements with greater financial gain. The adverse effect would occur for the least favorite players, this institutionally allowed bias would and can affect the lives and futures of players by depriving the players of the NBA the right to determine their individual success or failure according to their athletic efforts and skills. Fifth issue: The NBA facing fines and penalties from the federal government. Tim Donaghy’s actions were in connection with organized crime and if the FBI
On the other hand, there are those who feel as if the effects of the lockout will be suppressed due to the strength of the league and its progression towards a new style of play. According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, proponents of the National Basketball Association rest their faith for the league on four basic fundamentals: popularity, being hip, demographics, and marketing savvy. Basketball has an advantage over all sports due to its ease of being played. All you need is a basketball and a hoop. As long as this holds true, proponents feel basketball will always remain popular. During the NBA's resurgence during the 1980's and '90's they, "tapped into the rhythm and mentality among younger sports fans that hadn't been touched yet.
...ticle is about the NBA change rules around the league. This source is credible because the NBA is a premier men’s professional basketball league in the United States.
...nament is that some people believe it is just like any other tournament. They do not see the tournament for what it actually is. The premier event of college basketball that millions of viewers enjoy each year.
Did you know that there are roughly 550,000 male high school basketball players, 15,000 are good enough to make it to play college basketball, one third of that or 5,000 play well enough to make it to division I which is the highest in the NCAA basketball league, and only around 348 go on to play one game in the NBA. On the other hand there are rare cases of players having extraordinary talents and making the jump from high school basketball straight to NBA without any college experience. The debate on this topic is two sided, the first being that the jump from high school to the NBA should not be allowed and the second being that they should be able to do what they want.
Basketball was created and has been played since December 1891 (Griffiths, 2010), it is a game of skill and talent that is enjoyed by fans all over the world. There are numerous leagues, but the two main leagues are the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). The NCAA is considered amateur where the players are not paid, and the NBA is considered professional where players make millions of dollars. In order for the NBA to get their players they draft from the NCAA, but the rules have changed several times over the years that have permitted players to enter the NBA. The current rule states that NBA players must be one year removed from high school or 19 years of age (Article X, 2008), this rule is considered by many needing the most change.
In regards to referees calling the games inconsistently, they pledged to do their best to try and stay consistent. We can’t totally blame the referees because they have to throw the flag for what they see, but the foul is reviewable and can be overturned. It would help them out tremendously if players did not lead with their heads. They don 't want to call the penalties but they definitely will if they have to. They are just trying to do their part and help keep the game
It’s very obvious that most of these players are cheating and the NCAA and the NFL act like everything is just fine. They either do hardcore testing or don’t do it all.
High school and college basketball players have started to enter the NBA earlier and earlier as the year's progress. In general, this is resulting in a negative effect to the college programs, the NBA, and the players themselves. Before 1994 there were usually only eight to ten early entries into the NBA. The number grew to 18 in 1995, and an astonishing 40 players in 1996, and 47 in 1997. The number of early entries in the NBA grows to the point where it is a problem that needs to be dealt with by the NBA players association. College basketball is in serious trouble. Of course, any sport would be when it's marquee s...
First, the industry is organized by the NBA to have 30 equally balanced competitors. So, the distribution of capacity across teams must be relatively equivalent in order to maintain game suspense and thus it attract fans. The NBA endorses competitive balance with different measures such as reverse-order draft choices, salary caps, revenue sharing and etc.
The National Basketball Association is the most popular professional basketball league in North America; it is also the most popular professional basketball league in the world. The National Basketball Association (NBA) is one of the most diverse businesses in the world, which was the deliberate plan of former NBA commissioner David Stern. The NBA was once an all white and male dominated league, now through years of an aggressive effort to diversify the organization the NBA is now one of the shining beacons for diversity, tolerance and acceptance in the workplace. Former NBA commissioner David Stern spearheaded and put into action on the best examples of creating and cultivation opportunities for success based on merit. “When David Stern steps down as NBA Commissioner in 2014, among the legacies he will have created is an era in professional sport when leagues and teams hired the best people possible. He embraced the moral imperative for diversity while helping to show the other leagues that diversity is also a business imperative. The evidence for the NBA’s continued commitment to racial equality is seen in the strong grades in the League Office and in many key areas on the team level.”(Lapchick, R.) To fully understand the transformation of the league we will cover the history of the association, team diversity, league diversity, the NBA diversity initiative, and current diversity issues.
Basketball Needs to Be Fixed Professional and college basketball have become very popular in the hearts and minds of many Americans. Millions of dollars a year are spent on apparel, tickets, and television, all generated by people's love for basketball. But in the last couple of years, both the National Basketball Association (NBA) and college basketball have lost a substantial amount of their competition and have received much criticism for it. At the heart of this problem is a single cause, greed. The game of basketball has become all about money, instead of the game and its fans.
Weaknesses Poor management of player relations. Deteriorating brand image of certain players. Little to no control of the players off the court. The goal of creating a fair playing field among big and small market teams has led to too many regulations. Few superstar talents to draw fan attention/loyalty.
Football is a culture and within that culture is the desire to make money. In the 2014-2015 season, the NFL made $7.24 billion. Many dedicated fans travel to the stadium on a Sunday afternoon to experience the culture of football: the tailgate in the parking lot, the hundreds of dollars they pay to publicly display their favorite team’s gear, the front row seats to the game for them and their best buddy, the hotdogs and beer from the concussion stands. Many fans will participate in the NFL’s lifestyle every week. But the question is, do they really care about the actual sport or is it just the comradery and entertainment that it
