The Bible
The Bible is a unique book that is made up of 66 books that were written by 40 God-inspired authors over a course of 1500 years (George 5). It is written proof of God’s grace, and the truths that were first relevant thousands of years ago, are still relevant today, and always will be relevant to every area of life.
Many different men were contributors to writing the Bible. There were about 40 main authors, 30 in the Old Testament and 10 in the New Testament. Some of the books of the Bible are actually a collection of writings from several different authors. For example, the book of Psalms is mainly known for David being the author, but there are a few psalms attributed to Moses, Asaph, a man named Ethan, and the sons of Korah (“Who Wrote The Bible?”).
The Old Testament, which is also known as the First Testament or the Hebrew Scriptures, was written thousands of years ago. A lot of people recognize Moses as the main author of the first

five books of the Old Testament, also called the Torah. Many people think that Moses gave the narratives, genealogies, and law codes faithfully in these fives books, even though there may have been other people who filled other roles in compiling the Torah. As stated in the previous paragraph, David is considered the main human writer of the book of Psalms, although other people helped also. King Solomon, who was David’s son, is attributed to writing a good amount of the books of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon, which are also known as the Bible’s wisdom literature books. The Old Testament also has books, which were written by prophets, such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, Amos and many others. Most of these books were messages and they were delivered in person, either by being pronounced in the royal courts of Israel and Judah, spoken in front of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem, or being shouted from street corners. It wasn’t until later that these messages were written down, either by the prophets themselves or their scribes (“Who Wrote the Bible?”). The New Testament is made up of stories, teachings, and letters that went around the first Christian churches. These letters were written by the apostles like Paul and Peter and meant for being read out loud by communities of believers in particular locations. They are among the earliest writings in the New Testament. Luke, a physician, wrote the two-volume series, Luke and Acts, on the life of Jesus and the early church. The book of Matthew is famously contributed to Matthew, also called Levi, who was a tax collector, however, some people argue that it was written by someone else who was more experienced with the Hebrew Scriptures. The gospel of Mark is thought to record the memoirs of Peter, as written by John Mark. One of Jesus’ closest disciples, John, wrote his gospel, which gives us an eyewitness account of the life of Christ (“Who Wrote the Bible?”). The purpose of the Bible is to show people who God is, what His will for mankind is, and to keep track of the prophecies about, the arrival of, and the ministries of Jesus Christ.
The Bible is a history book that tells about the accounts of God’s creation and miracles from the beginning of creation, in Genesis, to the end of time, in Revelation. The Bible says, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me” (John 5:39 NKJV). Since all of Scripture bears witness to who He is, we can easily say that the purpose of the Bible is to tell people about Jesus. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1 NKJV), “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14 NKJV). These verses say that Jesus is God in the flesh and He bore our sins in His own body on the cross, and He died and rose from the dead
(Carm.org). For Christians, the Bible is more than just a best seller. It is a Christian’s rule of life, and was written by men who were inspired by God. The authors of the many books in the Bible were genuinely writing. God didn’t dictate them to write the Scriptures, it came from their hearts. “The Bible is a diverse collection of literature, yet it contains a unified message of redemption and renewal” (“Who Wrote the Bible?”). He gave us a book, the Bible, which is fully divine yet fully human at the same time.
The Greek poet Hesiod wrote the poem Theogony circa 700 B.C., which depicted a theory to the earth’s conception. It portrays three generations of gods and how the Olympians came out victorious from the war against the Titans with Zeus as their leader. This founded the main belief system for the Ancient Greeks and was publicized through word of mouth. This polytheistic understanding to creation differs from that of the Old Testament. To this day, it is still unknown who authored Genesis, the first book of the Jewish Torah and the Christian Bible, but it was likely written by more than one person, particularly three writers: Jehovist or Yahwist, Elohist, and Priestly, also known as the “Authors of Genesis.” In this interpretation, there was a
In The Unfolding Drama of The Bible, Anderson says, “The new heaven and the new earth”(83). As Jesus died for man and woman he restored the perfect world. By Jesus doing so one can receive everlasting life in heaven. Being saved by grace through faith allows for anyone to be saved. One is not saved by his works man and woman are saved by their faith alone. To wrap up the Bible Jesus died for humans everlasting life in heaven by believing and trusting in him.
The Old Testament and the Bible itself has been studied extensively for centuries. Archeologists and Scholars have labored and pondered over texts trying to decipher its clues. It does not matter how many times the Old Testament has been studied there will always be something new to learn about it or the history surrounding it. In the book Reading the Old Testament: an Introduction, the author Lawrence Boadt presents us with a few different authors of the Old Testament that used different names for God and had a unique insight into the texts. These four sources are titled P for priests, E for Elohim, J for Jehovah, and Y for Yahweh (95). These four unique sources help us realize that there is more than one author of the Pentateuch. These authors took the text and adapted for their culture. This independent source is used by scholars to help gain insight into what was behind the texts of the bible so we are not left with an incomplete picture of what went into the creation of the bible. Julius Wellhausen used these four sources to publish a book to able us to better understand the sources and to give it credibility with the Protestant scholars at the time (Boadt 94). These sources that is independent of the bible as in the DVD Who Wrote the Bible? and the Nova website aide in shedding light on the history that surrounded the writers who wrote the text and what inspired them to write it in the first place. The DVD shows the discovery of The Dead Sea Scrolls and the extensive history of the texts and all its sources in an effort to try to find exactly who wrote the bible (Who Wrote). These scrolls have aided scholars immensely by giving us some of the oldest known manuscripts of the bible in the world today. It shows that the bible w...
The Hebrew Bible, better known as the Old Testament, is a collection of tomes that form part of the Biblical canon. Many scholars around the world do not think that a single author wrote the books contained in the Hebrew Bible, but rather that it represents centuries of stories frequently compiled after the events they describe . The stories were created with visions for the future, in order to allow audiences insight into communities and beliefs that were common thought during their era. The stories responded to the issues and problems of their time, but also addressed contemporary climates. While the stories themselves may not be true, they convey truth without needing literal readings. For example, the creation stories in Genesis, portray God as creating the universe, and while this is considered as not ‘literally true’; the stories communicate theological truths about mankind’s relationship with God through the eyes of Hebrew writers .
To begin, before a person can debate the validity of anything, they must first understand the topic they are debating. So is the case here. A person must first understand the Bible and its origins before they can try and prove or disprove it. The Bible itself is composed of 66 books divided int...
I believe that the Bible is the holy word which was revealed for the purpose that man can know God and His will. Man is spiritual dead and cannot know anything, God has to revealed himself through His word to man (1 Cor. 2:7-11; 2 Peter 1:20-21). The revelation came by supernatural ways which are dreams (Gen. 37:5-9), visions (Gen. 15; Amos 7-9), and direct communication (1 Sam. 3:3-14). The Bible is written revelation, or God’s communication of divine truth to man. The revelation occurs in two forms: general and special. The general revelation is the truths that can be known about God through nature (Ps. 8; 19:1-6). The general revelation cannot bring salvation to man because it only demonstrates the existence of God, but it does not show man way he can be saved (Rom. 2:14-16). Man is without excuse as he suppresses the general revelation of God in his heart, man bears God's wrath and judgment (Rom. 1:18-20). The special revelation is the specific truths that can be known about God through the supernatural way
The Bible is a collection of sixty books that was written by diverse of authors, including the apostles and the disciple of Jesus. The Bible divided into two Testaments; the Old and New Testament. The Old Testament or the old contract is a collection of thirty-six books and the New Testament has twenty seven books. The New Testament is a contract between God and the humanity through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Koran was written by Muhammad, a prophet of God. Muslims believed that he received a message from Angel Gabriel and wrote the Koran. However, Both the Bible and the Koran are the words of God. The Christians believe in the resurrection of Christ Jesus has the son of God while the Muslims do not believe Jesus Christ as the son of God.
Who wrote the Bible? I can assure you that not many people have ever really asked themselves this question and really looked behind it to find out the answer. Several people have probably never wondered who since when they think of the Bible, they think of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” I can personally say I have never really thought about who wrote it, since I have always believed it was God himself. For me the Bible is more than just a book, it is a word of God. God may not have written the Bible psychically but was a huge inspiration for it. There’s the Old Testament and New Testament, both written by different people. You have Moses who wrote the old and the four gospels; Matthew,
The authors were inspired, carried along by the Holy Spirit. They were willing vessels. Some of the writers where Shepherds, Priest, Army Generals, Jesus Brothers, King, Tax Collectors, Doctors, Fisherman, and Government Officials. All these men came from different walks of life and interrupted the same message. The Holy Spirit inspired them all. In the Bible, Jesus promised the disciples that the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, whom the Father will send in Jesus’s place after death, will teach them all things (John 14:26-27). Jesus tells them not to be afraid because all that he has taught them, the Holy Spirit will help them to remember. The Holy Spirit, the connection between God and man will lead man to all truth. The Bible speaks the of the
The Gospels are written by four separate authors: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Each of these four men have a different account of Jesus’ ministry; yet, they all combine to bring a story without any faults. The purpose of the Gospels was to bring legitimacy to the life of Jesus for the separate audiences. After Jesus’ death
The Bible is not one big book, but is a collection of books all with a same purpose and theme. I am not a Christian or a believer yet it has made a big impact on my life. Growing up with an Atheist father and a Christian mother has put me on the fence regarding my belief of religion. I don't look at the Bible for teachings on how to live, I perceive it as old stories with good morals, just like any other folklore.
These people would know that the Bible is made up of 66 books in total, written over sixteen-hundred years by more than forty kings, prophets, leaders, and followers of Jesus himself. Neil then talks about how the ancient books of the Bible were made. He states that the Bible did not just show up out nowhere or that its teachings have been saved for no particular reason. The Bible was actually preceded by the making of the ancient books. To be honest, I always believed that the Bible was the oldest book in the existence of the world. However, after reading this, I now know I was wrong. Now I would like to further describe what I learned on the making of these ancient
The Bible, or God’s Word, operates within the hearts of common people who did not know the Lord; it also operates in Christians today. The Bible teaches us about creation of the world, the original sin, the redemption from Jesus, and the restoration of
The Old Testament is types and shadows of the New Testament. The Old Testament goes back to the beginning and tells the whole story. The New Testament is the fulfillment of God’s plans and purposes. The same approach is taken when dealing with the police or a lawyer in the investigation of a crime. They want you to go back to the beginning of the story and tell the whole thing, to gain a better understanding of the context of the situation. They need the whole story to get the full picture of what has taken place. You must go back to the Old Testament to learn about the laws as well as the promises of
