While reading The Great Gatsby, I learned to love many of the characters. I felt that Gatsby underwent the most significant change throughout the story. Jay Gatsby is a dynamic character, as he evolves throughout the story. He started off as a mysterious and luxurious character. He was known as the very wealthy guy that no one really knew anything about, there were many rumors about him because no one knew how he got the money he had or where he was from. His friendship with Nick gives us much more information about his life. We learn through Gatsby’s and Nick’s friendship that Gatsby did everything he could to impress Daisy. He believed Daisy was the love of his life, since the moment they met he fell in love with her aura of luxury and charm. …show more content…

She said that she was going to wait for him but she did not, she ended up getting married to Tom while he was away at War and from that point on Gatsby swore he would get her back. Although he always wanted to be rich, Daisy was his prime motivation to make money. The Mansion he lived in, the millions of dollars, and his fancy parties were all to try and win her back. From the moment we met Gatsby he seemed like he was lying about his past, having immediate proof of what he was saying to Nick seemed too good to be true. Their friendship did give us more insight though, we learned he really did go to Oxford, he made his money through bootlegging, he has been trying to win Daisy back since he lost her, and knowing this made Gatsby seem more human to me. Seeing Gatsby’s true emotion while waiting to meet Daisy again earlier in the book made me like him more as a character, seeing that he was nervous but still excited made me connect more to him. The role he has played throughout the story has made sense to me, most of the story is about him trying to win Daisy back and everything that falls into that. Including how Tom reacts, Nick reacts, and even Daisy. Tom is very upset by it, but he is very
