Is It Worth to Have More Than One Child? When most people think about having a child, they are happy and even excited about this possibility. Other people have problems deciding about this. Having a baby is a lifelong project, because of this; it is not something one should take so easy. Moreover, at some point after having a baby, you will find yourself asking if having a second baby is worth or not. From my point of view, there are many reasons why stopping at one child is the wiser decision. The first thing, you need to consider is how having a second child could affect your economy. It may sound cold. However, when you are taking a conscious decision about having a second baby, you must consider the way all the aspects of the life of your future tot will be. In a developed country such …show more content…
For example, “According to the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), a child born in 2011 will cost an average of $234,900 to raise to age 18.” (Sandler, 2013). On the other hand, as there is a stigma about the psychological implications of being an only child, a lot of parents decide to have another baby. In my opinion, the fact of being an only child not necessarily implies that your child will result affected psychologically. First, as I see it, being an only child leads you to a state of independence from an early age. You learnt to know yourself first instead of others. This is very important, for example, when it comes about respect yourself and having a good self-esteem. In addition, if you have a healthy self-esteem you are able to respect and love others as well. Second, when you ask the opinion of experts, you will find that when parents have only one child, It is easier for them to control possible problematic situations in the environment where the child grows, “The truth is that having one child as opposed to two or more allows for a
In our world, millions of babies are being born every day. However, in China, the number of babies being born is too high for their country. So the government decided to make a policy called the one-child policy. This policy limited families in China to only having one child. Is the one child policy a good or bad idea?
Twenty years ago, twin births were radically lower, with twins being more frequent than other multiple births. With technology becoming more advanced and people who normally have problems becoming pregnant can use in vitro fertilization, people delaying motherhood, and survival rate increasing; having twin children is not as rare as it was thought to be in the past. Twin birth rates have increased 42% from 1980 to 1994 (Lytton, Singh, & Gallagher, 1995).
The one-child policy restricted most families from having more than one child, and couples were required to get permission from the head of their work unit before having a child. Having a second child without permission, could lead to difficulties in registering the second child to the household registration system, and therefore losing the benefits of public health services and education for the child.
In the reading, it describes the high costs of performing IVF and the low chance of a pregnancy with implanting just a single embryo. The reading references Nadya Suleman’s decision to implant all her embryos and whether the decision by her physician to follow her wishes was ethical. Since there is little to no government interference in this industry, fertility clinics may use unscrupulous tactics to get couples business or encourage pregnancies. Guidelines by the C.D.C. and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine say that it is healthier to implant one embryo at a time and just repeat the procedure until a pregnancy occurs, but that may not be a viable option for couples desperate to have children. Having multiple births can lead to possible birth defects and possible health complications for the
Forced abortions are another reason families decided not to have a second child. Branigan states that, “forced abortions and sterilizations are illegal,” in the article “China’s One- child Policy’s Human Cost Fuels Calls for Reform” (Branigan). Though forced abortions are illegal, according to “China’s One- Child Policy Turns 33 as Forced Abortions, Female Infanticides Continue,” forced abortions can happen up to the ninth month pregnancy, be extremely violent, and possible kill both the mother and baby (Ertelt). The government administers forced abortions to make the idea...

In the late 20th century, the one child policy was established, and still continues today, although it is slightly altered. In the first twenty years of the one child policy, China’s population went from 1.3 billion to 300 million, which is why the policy has changed. Today, the one child policy has changed; depending on the couple, if one or both of the parents is a single child, they may have a second child. The one child policy had started due to the overp...
Women who carry multiples are at the risk for hypertension, gestational diabetes, and heart stress. The mother may be more likely to need caesarean sections, which may require a longer period of recovery and at times can increase the risk of hemorrhage during and after delivery. The twins or triplets are more likely born prematurely. These babies are thus at greater risk for low birth weight, mental and physical handicaps, and even death. In addition, the cost of hospitalization and caring for twins or triplets are much higher than the cost for a single child. The future special education needs, chronic illnesses, family support services, and other expenses should be also
In the trajectory of humanity, single parenting has become a concept internationally accepted by most modern cultures. What exactly causes single parenthood? Well there are many factors in which could result in a single parent household. Death of a partner, divorce, and unintended pregnancy are just some of the causes of single parenthood. Based on this worldwide acknowledgement and understanding, single parenthood is usually aided by monetary help from the government or unions. Although financial help is available, the psychological effects a child goes through could never be fixed by any type of cash value. These psychological traumas and mental changes could affect the parent raising the child as well. Even with some financial help, single parents sometimes struggle to make ends meet. A study featured in Time magazine informed Americans that middle to lower class single parents will work 40+ hour weeks at minimum wage to provide for their child. If the parent is so busy at work, who's watching the child? Sometimes, the single parent might still have connection with their own families. Grandma and grandpa have to raise the child since the parent is hard at labor to provide for their offspring. Occasionally, some of our elderly folk do not have the competence to watch over a child. It might even be that the child is too energetic and could wear out the seniors. The child will then resort to the television, street, friends, etc to learn and grow. These influences might be negative for the child especially if they're not coming from the mother or father. An investigation of single parenting leads to the affirmation that raising a child by yourself is very difficult and must be approached very leniently and effectively.
The idea of bringing an unwanted baby into the world is wrong in so many ways. I personally believe having a child is an important decision that requires consideration, preparation, and planning. Having both parents to love, protect and care for the child should be the ideal way, but not having any of those would be devastating. According to “ The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Article , it stated that “unintended pregnancies are associated with birth defects, low birth weight , maternal depression, increased risk of child abuse ,lower educational attainment, delayed entry into prenatal care, a high risk of physical violence during pregnancy, and reduced rates of breastfeeding.” (75). As stated in the article, unintended pregnancies can become a result of many risks. I strongly agree with this statement because as I mentioned before a pregnancy requires plenty of consideration. For example, if a woman becomes pregnant and she is a drug addict, she is prone to put the drugs over the baby ,and that baby is likely to be born with some disabilities because of he or she was not taken seriously. In addition, a woman is more likely to become unemployed and therefore the woman would not be able to take care of herself or the baby. Furthermore, what about teenage girls that get pregnant
Being healthy while pregnant is an important factor when considering carrying a baby. The risk of dying by giving birth is higher than having an abortion (ProCon). Not at women can handle the negatives of giving birth and survive through them. If a woman is aware that should is not healthy enough to give birth, she
Having a child changes your life completely and you no longer have to attend to your needs first, but you have to first put the baby's needs. There is not a manual to be the perfect parent, but people must have a stable relationship, or if they want to be a single parent they need to give them attention love and also you must have to afford food. The population need to know how important is to be prepared to have a child to raising them correctly and meet the needs of the kid. No everyone has the capacity to become parents the reason is that they need to provide food, cloths, love, care, home and
Women these days are having children for all the worng reasons for example they think that having a child is the answer to saving there relationship as if the baby is a bandage. Everything you do will effect your child. I interviewed Ruweyda Jama single mother of two, she agreed with my point and stated “After having my second child I set my life to making them both happy, but I couldn’t do it without being
As a child of a single parent household. I have first hand experience on the affects of having only one parent to not only take care of me but also show me and teach me about life and the correct choices that I should make in my life to better myself. Parenting is hard enough but parenting by yourself as a single parent is nearly impossible. You want to do everything for your kid to have a flawless life but the unfortunate news is that you can’t give them everything. Along the lines of helping your child in life as a single parent you are
