Almost all students already have stress because of school, imagine what would happen if the school board extended school hours by an hour and a half. School is already stressful because of everything we already do. Yes, adding a hour to school can help many students perform better but I disagree adding an hour and a half to school because students will perform worse, students wouldn’t have enough time to do things after school and many students will not come to school. First of all, I disagree with adding more time to school because students will perform worse. Students will perform worse because they will be too tired for the end of the day. Many students are already tired because they have to be in school for 8 hours and they’re excited to take a break from all the stress that they get from school. Students will also get more homework and projects because the school day is longer and teacher will start to overwork students more than they already are. Another thing …show more content…
Students are already stressed because of homework. Teachers would give more homework because they have more time and students would have less time to do it. This would be stressful because students who want to have good grades would have to finish it fast just to get time to spend time doing other things. Imagine what would happen to the struggling kids who need more time to do their homework they will start to fail. Another thing that students need is family time because family is important. Family is important because students can relieve stress by having family time because they are not worrying about anything else. Family time can also help students with school because they help support the students and less time with family means students are stressed out more. In addition to adding a hour in a half to school and not having enough time to do things students would not come to
Also, students will be up later finishing homework and socializing on their phones with friends. Although schools will now have been adjusted to fit with students sleep cycles, that does not mean that the students will actually get more sleep. Also, people do not think of the consequences such as conflicts with transportation.
Students may need to nap to compensate for energy expended throughout the day. However, if schools were to start later, adolescents would not have to nap, allowing for a larger window of time to spend with their families after school, even with a later start time. Another opposing argument is that students would have less time to participate in extracurricular activities. However, this issue can be resolved by making practices for sports and club meetings shorter and more frequent to accommodate the schedule variation. Overall, the benefits of later start times far outweigh the drawbacks.
... Beginning high school an hour later might possibly make things a little easier. It is evident that it would improve health, if the students take advantage of the extra hour. But it could also improve grades, abilities and motivation. Beginning school later makes the difficult job of waking up in the morning effortless and enjoyable.
School days should be shorter fro students because they do not get enough sleep, have to much homework, and have barley have time to participate in extra curricular activities. A majority of students have sleep depravation due to school. If school would either start or end late students will have a greater opportunity to get more sleep. Teachers expect students to pay attention for 90 minutes while the night before they were up late finishing their homework for there classes. Some teachers do not realize that students have a life and work or have other obligations that take up a major portion of the students.
With delaying the schools start time, comes tardiness. Kids wouldn’t be tardy and wouldn’t be tired. A school that moved the starting time to 9:00 reported a 66% drop in tardiness. 70% of the kids from that school improved on their grades, and showed significant improvements. Later start times also reduced truancy in schools and dropout rates. 64% of teenagers that sleep in class
Have you ever woken up and still felt unbelievably tired? Ever needed an extra hour or two of sleep? Scientists have proven that kids who sleep more can retain more information. More sleep could easily be achieved if we would delay school start times. Schools that have done this have shown higher test grades. Schools should have later start times because parents have trouble getting their children up, kids need a lot more sleep than they are getting, and there would be a lowered risk of illnesses.
If kids start school later they will improve mentally. Having a later start time causes less stress and less depression. If kids get their 10 hours of sleep it helps them not only not tired but they’re also more happy. At school I personally feel tired, and I start at 8:30 so 8:00 is still pretty early.
Pushing back school hours helps a student get more sleep therefore doing better in school. Say a student just woke up and they're late to school, with little sleep. In their first class they have a test and because they’re tired paying attention is hard. “ new research suggests a letter high school starts have widespread benefits”(Hoofman 12). This study shows that research has been done showing us we
Students often are involved in after school activities which, between school and the activities they hardly have any time to do homework and study. The article “Highschool Pressure” by Rachel D. states “We result to quickly completing homework and we do not receive any educational value from it. Also, we may not have any time to study at all, which would result in a failing grade.” Second, students are pressured which can cause students to lose focus in class. The article “Highschool Pressure” also states “long school hours puts much pressure on students. We may tend to slack off which could be harmful for their education in the long run.” Third, since all classes usually take a while to start it would not harm the students learning by taking a couple of minutes off of each class. Another statement in “Highschool Pressure” is “by cutting time out of the school day, the students education level would not be hurt. The students would be able to retain the same information within an hour or half an hour.” A shortened school schedule would improve learning by giving them more time to study and complete
If the start times for schools changed to a later time, everybody would be happier. Most people like the sound of sleeping in on a school day. It would be good if kids got to sleep in before school. Lets say one night you get home late from a baseball game and you go to bed around 10:30, you'd have about 10 hours of sleep until you have to get up for school. Ten hours is really good for anybody who has a full day ahead of them.
We are all used to the argument that people make that school should start at a later hour. Of course a lot of people want to sleep in, catch a few more Z’s. It sounds tempting. However, in the end pushing school to a later start time would cause more harm than good. I know all about the so called perfect all american family. Mom gets up early and makes breakfast for kids. She sends them off to school with a smile making sure they don’t forget their homework. Well let’s just say that not all of us live the all american dream. My mom has to be to work by 5 am. That means I am left to get my little sister ready to school, try and make breakfast, make sure the doors are all locked and somehow get to school on time. This doesn’t always work. Yesterday was my 5th tardy of the year. Starting school even a half hour later could make life a lot easier for some of us who are really trying.
“...an early start and release may mean more time in the evening for homework and family.” (What Is the Advantage of Having School Start Early? by Marie Anderson). This benefits them because if they have an earlier start time they will get out earlier and they will be able to spend more time on homework so they don’t have to rush and they will also have more time to spend with their families. This is one reason why I believe students should have an early start time.
Family A Family is important to any person because family is a universal institution and a close unit of persons emotionally attached to each other in a way that the problem of one affects all. The family unit becomes stronger especially in times of sorrow and pain like death, disease, ailment, loss and casualty. They bring the loved ones together to share with each other. A family is important because one may be unable to make decisions yourself if he/she is incapacitated in some way, such as being unconscious. The family unit is very important to someone’s development, growth and healthy upbringing.
That one day can relieve the stress of a busy week and make a student feel refreshed. A refreshed student will learn better than a stressed-out student. The same goes for a teacher. A teacher that has had that one extra day of rest can teach better than a stressed-out teacher because a well rested student will be more relaxed, calm, and patient. & nbsp; Although some people may think extending the school week will benefit the education level of the country I think otherwise. Extending the school week could actually hurt the education level of our country. Eliminating time for family, work, and relaxation will affect the attitudes of the students and teachers. Their
It is a source of comfort, support, security, and protection. Family helps make sense of the world by allowing one to feel unique and special and be encouraged to follow their dreams and to succeed at life. Families will experience life differently but it should be a safe place that opinions can be expressed openly and each member be made to feel important. While college will provide academic lessons in life, the lessons learned from family will directly affect one's personal values and behaviors. Every stage of life presents joys and challenges. Relationships teach how to cope with those joys and challenges and boost the ability to reach life
