Should people be able to use Google or any other search engine to find information other than thinking and going to the library? In my opinion I think we people should use search engines as an advantage because when you search for something you can get facts about things you want to know instead of going to the library, its faster and better. According to the article, Is Google Making Us Stupid? Says that Google makes us lose are intelligence well I disagree, Google can give people information and tell us what we need to know. In the reading, today Google is the new technology, Google contains the world’s best writing, images and ideas. Carr’s message is that Google is not actually making people stupid. It is just making people forget the traditional sense of reading. He expresses that this is a cause for the lack of attention today’s world compared to the time when there were no computers, internet, or Google. I disagree with this argument. If an individual has the propensity to skim over information by nature, than that individual will always be searching for means to gather
In my opinion, Google does not make us stupid like Carr suggests in his article. Google may make us seem lazy because we do less reading and physical activity. Information found on websites helps people become smarter and able to learn subjects easier in school. In the end, Carr never really provides scientific evidence that shows the brain’s circuitry having actually changed. I generally agree with Gladstone’s views and think the mirror metaphor is a useful way of talking about the media’s role in a free society. I also think that the computer and the Internet have enhanced our abilities and increased our processing speeds for acquiring knowledge: making the human brain more efficient in multitasking. The young people who are growing up with this new technology will expand it’s future. Gladstone makes the case that media distributors, even ones that seem indestructible, are ultimately subject to the preferences of their audience: us. Citizens should take up the responsibility of learning about and interacting with valuable media sources and reject those that pander to the lowest common

In composing “Is Google Making Us More Stupid” Nicholas Carr wants his audience to be feared by the internet while at the same time he wants his work to seem more creditable. Nicholas Carr uses many different types of evidence to show us that we should be scared and feared as well as his credibility. Carr’s audience is people who think like him, who find themselves getting lost on the internet while reading something, someone who is educated and uses the internet to look up the answers to questions or to read an article or book.
Carr states how Google, and the internet itself, have a financial stake in collecting the crumbs of data we leave behind. Apparently these companies do not want us reading slowly or for leisure. Carr then ends the article by stating that we are turning into robots ourselves, and that we are relying on computers to mediate our understanding of the
...second using the search engine, people lose their motivation to read and the attention to think about the answer. (Crovitz 353) In Plato’s Phaedrus, Greek philosopher Socrates claims that people who get information without proper instruction as ignorant since they only conceit of the answer instead of the wisdom to find out and understand the answer. (Carr 341) With such access to information, we do spread information and expand human knowledge in a rapid rate. However, we lose our creativity, intelligence and the spirit of inquiry.

With the rise of technology and the staggering availability of information, the digital age has come about in full force, and will only grow from here. Any individual with an internet connection has a vast amount of knowledge at his fingertips. As long as one is online, he is mere clicks away from Wikipedia or Google, which allows him to find what he needs to know. Despite this, Nicholas Carr questions whether Google has a positive impact on the way people take in information. In his article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” Carr explores the internet’s impact on the way people read. He argues that the availability of so much information has diminished the ability to concentrate on reading, referencing stories of literary types who no longer have the capacity to sit down and read a book, as well as his own personal experiences with this issue. The internet presents tons of data at once, and it is Carr’s assumption that our brains will slowly become wired to better receive this information.

Instead, we depend on technology to do that for us.
Andrea Schlesinger’s, “In Google We Trust” a chapter in her book The Death of Why? The issue is that the internet has changed people and that it may not be a good thing. Google has changed the way that people think greatly, especially in our ability to analyze, understand and know the source of the information we receive from google.

This is now the way that our world functions, we are able to quickly search information and form new ideas because of this site. The way our world learns is changing, and we all need to adapt to this new way. Though some people suspect that Google is making us stupid, it is only because not all of us have become adapted to this new learning technique. We are fortunate enough to have whatever we are looking for right at our fingertips but, because of the fact that we have so much information that is so easily accessible we need to be able to absorb the information being given to us. Google can’t become a temporary source of quick information that is thrown away as soon as our thought changes, it’s a learning tool, that is allowing us to know and do more. It makes life easier for us and clears up time for the more important things in life, experiences.
