Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, what is happening, and ultimately, the way we live.” I have always taken this as one of my life quotes that I think about everyday when getting up and getting ready. Most people think that fashion is something that has to be expensive and most of the time people don’t have a fashion since. They are wrong, fashion is everything, it is the influences that we have in our lives and everyone has their own and different style. People do not need the expensive clothes, what is “in”, everyone is different for a reason. Fashion in influenced by many different things, fashion is visible but overlooked by people all the time, what people think fashion is and what fashion really is, why is it important. These are just a few things that explain why fashion is important throughout our lives.
There are many different influences in fashion but some of the most important are society, culture, weather, personal experiences, beliefs and values of an individuals. Throughout history what people can and can’t wear has been controlled by government regulations and laws. At one point in western Europe, they controlled what people would wear so it would prevent the middle class from dressing like the upper class. In China, only emperor could wear dragons because a symbol of upper class. It also happened in the United States during World War II through how long women’s skirts could be because of fabric rations, meaning there was not a lot of fabric to go around so they could not get a lot of fabric. There are still regulations on how modest men’s and women’s dress must be worldwide.

Fashion is really an art, career, passion and lifestyle. Fashion is something that is going to be around for a long time and most don’t realize how much work goes into the fashion industry. The art part of fashion is one of the biggest parts of fashion because you have to know what goes on with people and what new is coming out. It is a career because people have to design and figure out new ideas that people would be interested in and would wear. People have to have a passion for fashion in the industry or you would not be able to deal with the day to day schedule of a designer. It is a lifestyle, a persons life to design and create artwork that would possibly be around for generations. As you can see fashion is an important part in the world, we would not be where we are today without fashion.
Fashion has been developing for as long as the Earth had been around, but the style people track today redirects generally to what was brought up during the roaring twenties, the era of a luxurious life. Women’s sartorial will experience many more future modifications which are predicted to be less modest and conservative. Men, on the other hand, will most likely not endure many changes. As fashion flourishes, society’s image on women, as well as men, will renovate into a more exposed mentality with a greater assortment of acceptance.
To summarize, fashion is just another outlet through which we can view our ever changing world. It is just as important as literature, cinema, and other means of creative expression that document history. However, fashion plays an even bigger role than most other art forms because it can shape the identity of a generation. Similarly, the clothes you wear can tell a story about who you are and your part in shaping a culture. In history class we often view historical events and facts so objectively that we forget that the people we read about had their own colorful culture as we do. Observing fashion and fashion history, ultimately, breathe life into the past and help us to understand how we operate as a society.
Coco Chanel, born Gabrielle Bonhuer Chanel, on August 19, 1883 in Saumur, France was an amazing woman who redefined fashion as we know it today. She was a clothing designer who revolutionized the fashion industry with her suits, little black dresses, and avant garde flare. Because of this quickly in her young life she became well know, and rose to be the fashion icon that she is today. From the timeless designs that are still popular to this day, and the sophisticated outfits that can be paired with great accessories Chanel has done it all. When it comes down to it though it was Coco Chanel’s philosophy that “luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it’s not luxury” that lead to her success. (“Coco Chanel”)
Our people are too blind to realize what fashion can do to a person. Sure first impressions are influenced by appearances. It’s true indeed that the first trait when people see each other for the first time is what they are wearing. However where do we draw the line? People excessively attempt to imitate runway models or their favorite artists. Becoming too wrapped up following the newest trend or the hottest style this season. Men and women desperately try to mold themselves into fashions “ideal body.” Fashion is harmful to society; it promotes harmful lifestyle choices, can contribute to bullying and often causes debt problems to young woman.
Fashion is always changing now days. Each day a new trend is popular based on society consensus. Today there is not much said about fashion and what certain genders should be wearing. There are so many different styles that it does not have a big impact on gender roles within society. But during the 1920s, which was the most dramatic and influential fashion decade, fashion promoted independence for women from the stereotypical Edwardian and Victorian Era women. Women known as flappers helped carry this influential decade to where it is today. Flappers challenged society roles and fashion for women which caused many disputes among older generations and more conservative women of that era. The birth of the 1920s flapper created not only dramatic
It is necessary to identify fashion and explain the systems apparel industry uses before I start explore the essentiality of fast fashion. According to Dictionary.com, fashion is defined as the prevailing style or custom that is in a current mode and used to express oneself. It can be clothing, accessories, hair, etc. Why certain people like to frequently shop in malls and keep updating apparels in their closets every season? Form psychological perspective, people usually consider clothing as a symbol to show their values, personality and lifestyles to others. Critically, a rapid imaginative change and symbolic expression supports a sense people have about fashion. People believe that an ideal self-identity can be communicated to others through clothing, so figuring out how people make decision when they perceive clothing among different brands and understanding their needs and desires can help apparel industries expending and maintaining market s...
To begin with, I will look at each of the two subjects. Fashion is an extremely large subject with many sub-categories and can mean many different things, however in this essay I will take fashion to mean the popular clothing style. I will put emphasis on looking at high fashion as these are the leaders of their field. Fashion itself though, is not to be confused with clothing. Clothing is a part of fashion, but it is predominantly purely functional, for protection from different aspects of the environment. Fashion however, is primarily for image. It is a way to present individuality and personality. A physical mouldable form of expression. Designers wish to create works of art that can be worn, and this is wear clothing becomes an art form.
The act of consumption has been the primary means through which individuals in society participate and transform culture. Culture is not something already made which we consume; culture is what society creates through practices of everyday life and consumption involves the making of culture. When attempting to understand certain acts of consumption it is necessary to observe the relations involved in production and consumption. Through technological innovation, the fashion industry has been expanded to play a prominent role in consumers’ purchasing decisions and styles are becoming less difficult to obtain. With the expansion of department stores and shopping being viewed as a leisurely activity, this has continued to transform the act of fashion consumerism. The functional interests feature a rational attachment to clothing items. Symbolic benefits involve status and prestige to fulfill the achievement for positive self-esteem. Further benefits include a provided experience for the individual consumer and the created use of imagery and desire used to enrich one’s life.
...earing the most ruffled, neon colored skirts in town. Your surroundings, financial background, religion, and daily habits make up not only your culture, but also your style. Factors such as music and the club scenes also influence a person’s fashion choices. With the amount of diversity, history and cultural references in the world, the possibilities in fashion are very complex. We can only look at reoccurring trends, and trends that have failed in order to understand what styles will survive in the future.
During the beginning of the 18th century, men and women wore different clothes than they did at the end. The monarch was the trendsetter of fashion. Clothing later developed as people looked up at both country and nature for inspirations. Men wore clothes that looked similar to the previous century. Wealthy men wore white linen or cotton shirt with laced edged or tie topped with sleeveless and many other rich designs. The working men wore simple garments and less made clothes out of cotton and wool. At the middle of the century, wealthy men wore similar clothing but it changed in both fitness and decoration in style. Also at the beginning of this century, men wore jus...
In conclusion, fashion will speak out a person’s social signal, people dress on designs that blend with their social class. Just as population, social activities and fashion are changing with time. Clothing has been around for thousands of years; almost as long as the modern human has. At first, it served the practical purpose of protection from the elements; but, as life for early humans stopped being a constant struggle to survive, they started noticing how they looked and the concept of fashion began to take shape. These first few garments were typically dyed draped cloth that was pinned at the shoulder and/or waist. This was seen in many ancient civilizations around the world, Greek and Roman the most notable. Over time, clothing began to get more and more complex and formed to the body’s shape, eventually leading up to the tailored style we now have today. However, the sophisticated world of Haute Couture; or high fashion, can distinctly trace its roots to Paris during the mid-19th century. Clothing from there was thought to be superior to those from anywhere else, and women began to come from all over Europe just to buy dresses. This was probably due in part to one notable dressm...
