Is Abortion Morally Right Or Wrong

“The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me? There is nothing between” (Mother Theresa). It is and can be a resilient matter to reference. Due to the underlining factors of abortion, it is difficult to determine if it is morally right or wrong. The decision to accept or deny the ideology of abortion has been a determining factor for the nation’s choice of political parties, religions and even social cohorts. The court case of Roe vs. Wade led to a division of the nation on the issue of abortion (Keown).
According to Webster-Merriam dictionary, abortion is the termination of pregnancy followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. It is also

noted as a spontaneous expulsion of the human fetus during the first twelve weeks of gestation.
The first doctor who ever experimented or practiced the procedure of removing a blockage was also in other terms inducing an abortion (Mohr). If there were no signs of quickening, movement of the fetus there was no true way to tell if a woman was pregnant, or suffering from a blockage of menses. In the time period of the early 1800’s there were no tests to prove a pregnancy. (Mohr)
Terminating a pregnancy before quickening or early pregnancy was not considered criminal under the common law in the United States before the 1800’s. The conclusion was that American women before 1800 were legally free to attempt to terminate a condition that might turn out to have been a pregnancy until the existence of that pregnancy was incontrovertibly confirmed by the perception of fetal movement.
