A teen activist is someone who takes action in the world, and stands up for what's right no matter how hard it is. If you want to become a teen activist then you have to be someone who never gives up on trying things. Malala Yousafzai, Alex Libby, and Iqbal Masih are all examples of teen activists. One example of a teen activist is Malala Yousafzai. To prove, she got shot when she was 12 on her bus by the Taliban. The Taliban shot her because they were against girls education and did not want it to happen. The Taliban is a group of muslim extremist. For example from the video “Malala Yousafzai speaks out” it states that “The bullet went down her shoulder past her cheek and just missed her brain, but she is still alive now to this day.” This shows that Malala really cares about girls education and does not give up because she keep fighting after she got shot. Bullying has become a major problem facing the United States today. The American Psychological Association reports that roughly 40% to 80% of children are involved in bullying on some level during their time in school. (APA, 2014) The magnitude of the problem can be observed in the statistics. In the United States, a total of 4,080,879 children between the ages of five and 18 have been the victims of bullying compared to 3,892,199 who have reported that they have engaged in bullying someone else. Additionally, 851,755 said that they have been both the victim and the bully. That's a whopping 8,824,833 people in the United States that have been involved in bullying behavior on one level or another. (High, B., 2000 Census)

I believe young people must be seen as full-fledged citizens of our world. Youth empowerment, the act of bringing out natural talents and energies in youth, is effective. Youth should be provided the supports and opportunities that enable them to increase individual self-worth and skills and have a significant impact on services to communities, states, and the nation. Youth should be active participants in decisions affecting their lives, including their living situations. Further, the involvement of young people in the planning and implementation of services and in mobilizing community support for programs that affect their lives, and those of their families, is essential to their individual development and the success of the programs working with them.
While they were fighting back for what they believe in, they suffer the consequences. For example, Malala and the girls in her town had a thirst for knowledge and education which inspired big dreams. But as the Taliban spread and terrorism took over, those dreams shattered, schools were destroyed and education became a crime. Although others were disappointed but sat back and accepted reality, Malala chose to stand and fight. She claimed that, “[she] had two options. One was two remain silent and wait to be killed. And the second was to speak up and then be killed. [She] chose the second one” (Yousafzai). By doing so, she put a target on her back, however, that only pushed her to do more. The label ‘teenager’ as we know it was a concept that first arose in the 20th century. Before this there were young people in their teenage years; however there was no sub-culture or institution in place that brought them together or that helped to develop peer group cohesion on a societal scale. Whilst some worked at home, on family farms, or in factories or offices, others attended school. Some were married off or were being prepared for marriage. Teenagers didn't do that much to distinguish themselves from adults. They dressed exactly like their parents as well as having the same views and music tastes.
