Intuitive Surgical is a company that was founded by a surgeon turned entrepreneur named Fred Moll. Fred Moll observed surgeries and developed robotic assisted minimally invasive surgery (MIS). In doing so, Fred Moll produced the opportunity to make patients’ lives easier after surgery. These robotic-assisted surgical machines were first introduced on the battlefield, which allowed surgeons to operate on wounded solder’s remotely. These MIS’s allowed minimum incisions and faster recovery time, fewer complications, lower hospital cost. Intuitive Surgical has had the opportunity to take over this area in the medical field and has had a chance to push this innovative idea globally, all while securing patents that no one can copy. Which Intuitive Surgical all begin when a surgeon that turned entrepreneur observed surgeries and invented the idea robots performing the task. Intuitive Surgical reaches out to key institutions such as academic and community hospitals. When a hospital purchases a robotic system, Intuitive Surgical will educate surgeons and the patients on the benefits of using the robotic systems. When a hospital can obtain the maximum use out of one Intuitive Surgical’s robotic system, and the a patient is satisfied, then the chance of purchasing another system in the future will Those three are mentioned above Research, Networking, and Observing. Although, Intuitive Surgical could have benefited greatly from the some of the other discovery skills, they did an excellent job on the ones that they did utilize. A particular discovery, skill that I thought could have benefited Intuitive Surgical was experimenting. Indeed, Intuitive Surgical was successful; It is my belief that by experimenting more with the products they could have possibly found additional innovative ideas. A successful company does not stop with just enough; they find added ideas that could turn into possible changes in current products. Fred Moll, a surgeon, took the time to observe surgeries constitute innovative ideas to make patients life’s easier is brilliant within itself. By Intuitive Surgical networking with universities on a global level, this provides them with an opportunity to introduce ideas that some future surgeons may have never heard. I chose the Da Vinci Surgical system as my topic because I am interested into going to physical therapy or into the orthopedics field after undergrad. Surgical equipment is highly important due to the hundreds of accidents that happen and also the high percentage of diseases. As these incidents occur it is important to consider the safety of the patient when it comes to cutting into their bodies. With the invention of the Da Vinci Surgical system it helped with vision and different viewpoints of the patient’s body and also improves precision. It is important to have a machine or tool for more than one type of surgery, one to use on patients with different injuries or diseases. Overall, this surgical system helps improve and help further research how precise and how in control a surgeon can be.

Prior to the invention of robot-assisted surgeries, most surgeons simply did a typical laparoscopic surgery on a patient. Laparoscopic surgery is “a type of surgery performed through several small incisions, rather than one (or more) large ones as in standard "open" surgery” (Schmitz). Through the development of superior technology, such as the surgical robot; it brought about changes that effected doctors, patients, and the medical world.

By convention, the field of healthcare research was entirely occupied by physicians and doctors.
