As part of our initiative to be increasingly proactive, British Petroleum has decided to invest in interpersonal communication tactics. The tactic of information exchange will aid us in effectively communicating with employees and assist with reaching our goal to increase overall safety. The interpersonal communication tactic will help British Petroleum through information exchange in communicating with our employees. By using the information exchange tactic, we will be able to communicate our expectations to our employees and reinforce their knowledge of safety measures and requirements. We will set up mandatory training sessions for lower level management to attend. These training sessions will be used to communicate the old and new expectations of British Petroleum. They will also be used to collect feedback in areas we have overlooked or never considered. This two-way communication will lay down a positive and effective communications foundation for the future, as well as increase employee satisfaction and perceived employee value. Top management will give motivational safety speeches that will provide face-to-face interaction and bring awareness to our employees as well as act upon the safety protocols we are putting in place. The main advantage of this tactic will be an increased frequency and strength of communication efforts across the company. These tours would help instill a sense of pride and ownership because we are entrusting them with the success of their oil rigs. This will bring about a sense of confidence that we are a reliable company investing in our employee’s success. This tactic will help our employees realize that they are valued and encourage them to remain and succeed with our company. Engaging our employees with these trips will lead to the increase in positive perceptions of job security here at British Petroleum. The main advantage of this of this tactic is to build the trust and reliability of job security amongst our employees here at British Petroleum. The main disadvantage of this tactic is that our employees may be discouraged that their rig may not be operating at the level we expect. This may discourage them; however, we can build trust and reliability of job security amongst our employees so they will be motivated to do their best at their rig site. The other tactic we want to use is the special events tactic in which we can achieve the relationship management by focusing on increasing job satisfaction for all our employees here at British Petroleum.
By creating civic events around the United States and around the world, we want to get connected with fairs and carnivals in which our employees can get together with their families and have some fun at no expense. At these special events we will have free food, games, carnival rides and prizes. By having these special events, we will be able to increase job satisfaction amongst our employees. Using this tactic we will be able to help relieve some stress and frustrations that come with working at a company as large as British Petroleum. By making this a yearly function that our employees can look forward too, we are betting that this will have a major impact of job satisfaction amongst our employees. The main advantage of this tactic is to increase job satisfaction and decrease job turnover. The disadvantage of having a yearly special event around the world is the costs associated with such an elaborate event and not having employees go to these events. However, by giving them incentives such as free food, games, carnival rides and prizes, we are betting that these events will be successful. We are putting forth the time and resources to keep our employees and we are betting that they want to work in such a family
atmosphere. By successfully employing these different tactics, we are positioning ourselves to continually strive for success with our employees and our company here at British Petroleum. We do not view the cost associated with these tactics as wasting our money, but rather an investment in the future of British Petroleum. Strategically, we are building a better tomorrow today by engaging with our employees and their families to increase job safety, job security, and job satisfaction. In every society nonverbal communication is one of the most powerful tools that a person can use to interpret the message that is being delivered. Even though verbal communication is fairly straightforward, nonverbal communication allows others to sense the true emotions of the person that is expressing them. For example even though a person may say that they are not irritated, their usage of voice may display otherwise. Nonverbal communication not only reveals hidden messages, but it also complements, substitutes, and exaggerates verbal communication.
There are all different types of communication that people will use through out their life. The most important type of communication is interpersonal communication. Interpersonal communication differs from other forms of communication in that there are few participants involved, the participants are in close proximity to each other, there are many sensory channels used, and feedback is immediate. Interpersonal communication is the information received from listening to what someone else is saying. Interpersonal communication always uses intonation, diction and enunciation to give meaning to information. Intonation, diction and enunciation sometimes give more meaning to what is being said than the actual words themselves. Both of these types of communication can be very effective when you communicate with someone or people. Effective communication also depends on who we are talking and whether we agree with what they are saying. Effective communication can solve this friendship breakdown. Non-verbal communication with you friend could be: eye contact, body language (positive and negative), posture, , facial expressions and head movements. It is very clear to me that we live in a very dynamic world that changes constantly. The rate at which we communicate what is essential at the moment seems to progress and speed up as technology gets a progressive upgrade. In reality we are what we are thanks to technology, and because of this technology communication seems to evolve with our own evolution as human beings. I start of with technology because by reading the chapter I really fell in love with what the true concept of interpersonal communication is and how its versatility is adjustable to the modern day. It is funny how we involuntarily participate on a daily basis in this interpersonal interactions with one another and make it extremely effective again to the point that it is subconsciously done. There several aspects of my life that evolve this natural human instinct and I feel it relates the most to technology.
Interpersonal communication is one of skills that can make you a better communicate. It is a form of communication between one or more people. It is something we all do just by simply talking to somebody. Talking to people in and outside of school or work can help improve a relationship. Hopefully in my future, I will be able to not be as introverted with texting people as I am now. I could have improved more friendships in my past if I talked to more people. It can improve relationships with people because you are finding out more about them and talking to them more.
