I felt uncomfortable to express my own view over the subject matter. After taking this communication class I learned various tips on communicating with people and finally I was able to express my view over the subject matter without any fear. So I found this class as well as my small group very helpful to improve my communication skill. Sometimes I was stuck in a difficult word or phrase and my group member helped me to pronounce difficult words. It was very easy to deal with them because all of us were very co- operative. We all respected and encouraged the views of others and we equally contributed to the decision making process. Our group was very active, when we were at home we exchange our information and idea through email. When we discussed we all used our verbal and non-verbal communication with the full power, which was really a fun part. If we had any problem over our subject "we collaborated by discussing the issues, describing feelings, and identifying the characteristics of a solution that would satisfy everyone" (Chapter 8, …show more content…

From their speeches I learned how to use verbal and non- verbal action to give the message to the

According to Bevan and Sole (2014) interpersonal communication can be well-defined as “a unique type of communication that involves two individuals interacting via face-to-face or mediated channels (Ch.1.3, Para. 1). Interpersonal communication is inevitable and numerous influences can play into role. Illustrated in our textbook are six principles of interpersonal communication which includes captivating accountability for your behavior; recalling that there is common significance to a dialogue exchange; identifying that others can have views that are dissimilar than yours; display reverence for all personalities, yourself included; listen and reflect what others are saying; nonstop teaching of one’s self to be a proficient communicator (Bevan
When I found out I had to take a communications course, I thought I was going to die. I literally thought I was going to pass out during a speech and hit my head in front of the entire class. Alas, I can know say I made it through a public speaking course. I know it sounds dramatic, but the idea of speaking for an audience simply terrified me. In taking the course, I realized that communications did not only entail public speaking, but also the ability to communicate with others on a day to day basis. As the course progressed, I began to hone in on specific goals for myself as communicator, which included the development of my verbal delivery skills, the improvement of my nonverbal delivery skills, as well as becoming a stronger
Interpersonal communication class helped me understand how to communicate with diverse people and how to communicate in different ways. Interpersonal communication is influenced by culture and gender; different cultures have anticipations about relationships and how people should interact and communicate within those relationships. Even though I learned many interesting things from all the chapters, the chapters that I enjoyed the most are about nonverbal communication, listening communication, and emotional communication.
Making a successful public presentation or speech to an audience was a very big task for me before I joined the public speaking class. I was always frightened and very nervous. Since then I now understand the process of making a speech or a presentation including coming up with a topic and from this topic develop the main points of the speech, research, organize my points, revise them, edit and make a magnificent presentation to any audience. People in the audience might sometimes agree or disagree with my opinion or points, it was therefore necessary to communicate my information clearly to the audience without making any judgments since every person was entitled to a different opinion and views about things.
In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect upon the process that my group went through to get to the presentation end point.
It is evident that communication is a huge part of everyone 's everyday life. There are a variety of different ways that people use to communicate in their lives. But the most common way to communicate is through interpersonal communication. It occurs when two individuals are close and able to equip feedback to the other person involved. It does differ from just your typical communication because there are only a couple members involved, the people involved tend to be close with each other already, and the reaction is prompt. By listening to what someone else is saying is also interpersonal communication and when the material is acknowledged, it gives meaning to the information. It can be done verbally and non-verbally, and is not primarily

The lectures and readings educated me on many different communication skills and their individual importance for a health professional. While I knew many things about communication prior to starting this topic, the weekly workshops encouraged me to reflect on my actual communication abilities. The workshops were one of the most valuable aspects of my learning as they included whole class discussions, which promoted active listening and addressing large groups of people, and small group discussions, which promoted friendliness and confidence. The core workshop groups were also very helpful in developing my communication skills due to having to collaborated with multiple people to put together a presentation, whether this was the point to ponder or the final role play assessment. These mini presentations helped develop my feedback skills and clarity of my ideas.
