Today’s technology has developed far from 10 years ago. The most obvious is in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The invention of smartphones and tablet PC are some of the evidences which show how far this field has developed. Somehow, a smartphone without Internet is like a song without melody.Gray (1999) as cited by Usun (2003) referred the Internet as “a network of hundreds of thousands of computers all over the world, connected in a way that lets other computers access information from them” (pp.2).This aged old network that connected the computers at the time it appeared in the life of human, is now playing bigger role to this modern day life as the users are always increasing everyday. A part of the users are young adults aged 18 to 24 years old, who some of them enter college to further their studies. So the research question is to know to what extent this network could influence the college students’ lives.Such research questions arose as many students claim that internet really helps them in their studies. Plus, the existence of modern gadgets nowadays make it easier for the students to get information just by clicking and scrolling. So, instead of going to the library, these students can get all the information they want instantly. On the other hand, with the Internet, it comes together what we called as social network. Nowadays, we heard a lot on social network addiction’s issues. One of them is that people stop communicating face-to-face with the presence of social networks. So, this research is conducted to see how far these claims are real.
Young adults go online more than others in our population. Smith, Rainie and Zickhur (2011) had analysed that 92 percent of non-college students do have access...

...aged to show some of it. Somehow, there is lack of research being done on the impacts of the Internet to college students in both aspects, academic and social lives. Moreover, ICT which one ot the component is internet, has always develop. So, the research that had been done regarding the same topic in the past, the results may not be the same as today. For example, this research is a replication of the research that had been done in the United States in the year of 2002. It was a very long time ago, and for sure the students’ perception on the Internet usage may differ from the past 12 years with the students nowadays.
The main purpose of this research is to investigate the perception of the students of CFS IIUM on the internet usage. In depth, the objectives are to know how the internet play its role in students’ academic experience and their social lives.
There haven’t been many studies on the habits of college students, which is one reason why Mokhtari decided to study it. The reading skills of Americans are decreasing as each year passes. While I am a very avid user of the internet, and I do watch quite a bit of television, I also spend a fair amount of time reading. An example of Mokhtari’s idea is shown even here; some people also cannot immediately restate what the might have just read, indicating our attention is elsewhere almost constantly. Another finding states that people who spend long amounts of time on the internet spend less time socializing with friends and family members. However there is a contradiction to this, studies have also found that people use the internet to finish tasks quickly and free up time to spend on other activities. This contradiction, or the “displacement hypothesis” may play a part in how the study of college students goes.
With the entry of technology, humankind built up the capacity to communicate around the world. However, there were many debates whether technology changed the way of socializing with people. Despite the fact that technology has its positive sides, it ought to be found in a negative light. As technology made people's lives easier, they lost their social skills. The problem is that Nowadays' generation is failing to understand the epidemic of communicating via internet and its side effects.
Ms.Amarachinta was born in India, the country that is famous for its developed information technology industry. In 1992, she went to college and studied as an undergraduate in India. Guided by a family member and seeing the great need for computer engineers in the future, Ms.Amarachinta decided to take computer science as her major. During that time, internet just appeared in people’s lives as a new invention. There were no social networks, no smart phones, none of those technology products people use today existed at that time. “When I first started [using the internet], nobody used it for entertainment as people do today. The only form of electronic communication was through e-mail, even that was not common in students with other majors”, said Ms.Amarachinta. In fact, it is nearly impossible for anyone who lived in 1990s to imagine the popularity of social networking today; similarly, teenagers who grew up with electrical products could hardly understand the old way of life people used to have. The advancement in technology
...; nonetheless, it poses to be a great distraction to students and their peers. Bugeja, in his article, believes that until the ability to use technology is reassessed, issues regarding Internet use will only increase in higher education institutions. The rapid advancement in technology has taken over the classroom in a negative aspect and will continue to do so unless measures are taken to permit internet access for educational purposes only.

This 24/7 online, connected community is actually a place for escaping from stress and bad emotions. The countless facilities and alternatives of virtual world attract the attention of many teens.
Technology has advance so much since the old days. We see technology everywhere but one major thing that has change since back then into now has been the internet usage. Believe it or not internet is being used everywhere. First, it was used in desktops now is on laptops, cellphones, and tablets and even on TV and Video games. Internet, is very bad for society but three major reasons why is bad is due to many deaths, creating health issues, and bullying.
Technology is one of life’s most impressive and incredible phenomena’s. The main reason being the shockingly high degree to which our society uses technology in our everyday lives. It occupies every single realm, affecting people both positively and negatively. There are so many different forms of technology but the two most often used are cell phones, and the internet/computers in general. Today’s younger generation was raised alongside technological development. Kids now a days learn how to operate computers and cell phones at a very early age, whether it be through their own technological possessions, a friend’s, or their parents. They grow up knowing how easily accessible technology is, and the endless amount of ways in which it can be used. This paper will be largely focused on the effects of technology on the younger generation because your childhood is when these effects have the largest impact. I am very aware of the subject because I am the younger generation. Aside from major effects on study and communication skills, there also exist the media’s effects on teen’s self-esteem and mental health. Maybe more importantly, there is our world’s growing problem of over priced and unnecessary consumerism. Over time, our society has created a very unhealthy form of reliance and dependency on technology as a whole. People essentially live through their devices. Cell phones are always with people making it nearly impossible to not be able to reach someone at anytime, day or night. In 2011, there were 2.4 trillion text messages sent, and 28,641 cell phone towers were added across the US. 1 We use our phones and Internet for directions, communication, information, self-diagnosis, games, movies, music, schoolwork, work, photos, shoppi...
The creation of the Internet resulted in a revolution of languages and communications, as a whole. The revolution had completely changed the way the world was connected, making it smaller and giving a new form of influence & power to the people who know how to use it. The Internet offers a foundation for boundless imagination and creativity as it allowed different societies to be immersed within foreign cultures and practises that would have otherwise been impractical and difficult to achieve by means other than through the World Wide Web.

"The Internet is not a panacea for every problem in education. We need to be realistic. But we also must realize that the Internet is a tool that can help us empower every student and elevate each individual to new levels of intellectual capacity and skill. That is the great opportunity of this new technology."
A useful thing about internet is the electronic mail, as it gives us faster results than its regular and normal air mail. Internet gives information in any aspects of knowledge which is useful for student and for the business. Internet changes our life (and where sure to that). It gives us a lot of knowledge, advantages and disadvantage of course and we should be aware to that by using it and knowing what are those disadvantages. Though it gives a lot of advantages to us we should always look on the other side of it, for the reason of the social development growth especially to children. (Sonia79, 2005)
The effect can been seen on the society as people now hide behind screens and tend to have limited face to face commutation. It’s also ironic that many relationships were built through online chatting and later were disappeared without people meeting one another in reality. Perhaps, one of the most downsides of Social media is the weakening of the bond between family members. In other words, the overuse of technology such as laptops and smartphones have negatively affected healthy relationships and led to isolation, depression and psychological conditions due to the lack of support between family members. Education wise, social media is believed to be one of the reasons behind the drop in educational level and standard among teenagers and children. The great amount of time they spend on social medial is likely to affect their intelligence as the brain become lazier in memory and information processing. In addition, Students are now totally reliant on “google” to find the answer for their research assignments or a question in their homework before attempting it by themselves. Unfortunately, social media has also led to decrease in spelling and grammar skills between students and children as many depend on ‘autocorrect’’ to check the spelling of their words and finish their sentences. Additionally, Moreover people became motionless because they are ignoring the real nature of speaking or writing,
