My fascination with International Relations stems from my family experiences. My great grandparents were immigrants from Russia and lived through the Pogroms. My close family currently lives on the border between Gaza and Israel, so Middle Eastern politics and security particularly interests me. My father’s bookshop was randomly blown up by the IRA in 2001, so learning about terrorism and the IRA at GCSE was particularly relevant to me. I am currently studying Economics, Government and Politics and History, which I feel will complement my further studies in International Relations. One module in Economics specifically covers the National and International Economy and this has heightened my interest in International relations. In this course we focused on world trade and comparing third and first world countries Gross Domestic Product and economic growth rate. We looked specifically at the trends, and the reasons as to why the figures fluctuated, and what was happening at the time that they did. This was a two year course to learn how to be a youth leader for children aged 9-15. During this programme, we covered mental health issues, bullying, social problems, abuse and how to deal with these issues if they arose during the residential camp. In a 3 week camp last year, I planned an activity about the Israeli - Palestinian conflict. As this is such a sensitive topic I had to do extensive research in order to produce a balanced point of view. Being a camp leader meant that I was in effect loco parentis for the children. This was a huge responsibility as I did have to deal with a number of sensitive issues. I have been given several opportunities to teach these skills to younger girls, including organizing the San Francisco Girl Scout Skills Camporee training, where we trained Girl Scouts of all ages for the annual Skills Camporee. For multiple years in a row, girls in my troop and I organized and designed the training activities for this event. Events like this have improved my leadership abilities and inspired me to continue learning as a Girl Scout. Of all of the amazing experiences that I have gotten from Girl Scouts, the most important to me has been the opportunities to meet hundreds of other inspired young women and help them enrich their own lives through Girl Scout programs. Through my troop, I was connected with DWEN, Dell Women’s Entrepreneurship Network.
Conclusion Ultimately I did a much better job of implementing course material into my approach to leading the project team. Though no formal leadership role was established, I ended up becoming the “point-man.” Instead of viewing this reality as a burden (as I have been) I should make the most of the opportunity to better myself and potentially others. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, I need to make sure that I am meeting and exceeding the demands that the group places on itself and demonstrate that I am motivated.
More than 2000 years ago, there was once a young woman who was sold into slavery. Her whole nation was actually sent to a foreign land. The culture of the new home was a male dominated one. In the course of time, she lost both parents and her upbringing fell into the hands of her uncle. In the days of her captivity, she learned the culture of the new land and understood her capabilities and appreciated her worth. Although she was a “slave”, her soft manners, interpersonal skills, kindness; and appearance (beauty) won her a place to be presented before the King of the new land and was later crowned as the new queen. The first paradigm of international relations is the theory of Realism. Realism is focused on ideas of self-interest and the balance of power. Realism is also divided into two categories, classical realism and neo-realism. Famous political theorist, Hans Morgenthau was a classical realist who believed that national interest was based on three elements, balance of power, military force, and self interest (Kleinberg 2010, 32). He uses four levels of analysis to evaluate the power of a state. The first is that power and influence are not always the same thing. Influence means the ability to affect the decision of those who have the power to control outcomes and power is the ability to determine outcomes. An example of influence and power would be the UN’s ability to influence the actions of states within the UN but the state itself has the power to determine how they act. Morgenthau goes on to his next level of analysis in which he explains the difference in force and power in the international realm. Force is physical violence, the use of military power but power is so much more than that. A powerful state can control the actions of another state with the threat of force but not actually need to physical force. He believed that the ability to have power over another state simply with the threat of force was likely to be the most important element in analysis the power of as state (Kleinberg 2010, 33-34).
I decided that I wanted to pursue the knowledge of how I could become a foreign affairs officer and how the Great Recession of 2008, caused a great deal by over speculation and compelled people today to have lower expectations and save more, affected my specific job and what the opportunities of getting that profession were tout de suite.
The study of international relations takes a wide range of theoretical approaches. Some emerge from within the discipline itself others have been imported, in whole or in part, from disciplines such as economics or sociology. Indeed, few social scientific theories have not been applied to the study of relations amongst nations. Many theories of international relations are internally and externally contested, and few scholars believe only in one or another. In spite of this diversity, several major schools of thought are discernable, differentiated principally by the variables they emphasize on military power, material interests, or ideological beliefs. International Relations thinking have evolved in stages that are marked by specific debates between groups of scholars. The first major debate is between utopian liberalism and realism, the second debate is on method, between traditional approaches and behavioralism. The third debate is between neorealism/neoliberalism and neo-Marxism, and an emerging fourth debate is between established traditions and post-positivist alternatives (Jackson, 2007).
Theories of International Relations (IR) explain how international relations work or how states behave in the international arena. Western theories of IR such as realism or neo-realism, liberalism or neo-liberalism, English School or International Society, constructivism, and critical theories such as Marxism, feminism, etc are familiar to scholars and students of international relations. In recent times, there have been, and there are, attempts to discover or develop theories of IR that are non-Western. Africa is one place where such attempt is going on. I have lived in Suwon, Korea. Suwon is one of the biggest cities in Korea, which has over a million citizens. It’s a satellite city of our capital city, Seoul. The most fascinating thing of the city is that we have the world heritage named Hwa sung. It’s a fortress, which was built in the age of king Jungjo in the Joseon dynasty (the era existed just before the republic of Korea). Thanks to the very fortress, Suwon can be a beautiful city which contains both traditional and modern aspects. There are some old buildings such as watchtower along the fortress, and contemporary architectures also exist beyond the wall. Suwon is the great town that offers the fantastic experience to see the past and the present of Korea at the same time to her citizens.

I spent most of my time in a first grade classroom. In this classroom I observed the children as well as the teacher and paraprofessional. This classroom had children with special needs and that is why there was a paraprofessional in the classroom for half the day. What I observed in this classroom was how children with special need should be handle and taught. The teachers in this room loves her job and each student in her class. While in the classroom the teacher allowed me to help with children with their work, read to them and help them with anything else that they needed. During this field experience I got to give back to not only a school, but to a community that is very near and dear to my heart. I hope that I touched each student in a special way, because the students that I got the opportunity to help learn touched my
