After reading this book I learned that when we have business with other culture’s people we have to be very careful and also we have to do our “homework.” And to be open-minded person who can see one thing from many kinds of perspectives and be aware about the worst case situation. For example, translation mistakes and names of the names are very easy to avoid. You just have to be extra careful about the translation and have to prepare for people who can translate and can also check for the people. For example, if you are planning to do business with Japan. You should be ready to have Japanese person who are fluent in English and English speaker who is also fluent in Japanese. So that they can make sure the translation will be done correctly and …show more content…
After reading this book I realized how important to learn international business. I think international businesses have to be taught in college for especially business major students but I think it is very important that all students in college should learn about cross cultural relations class. I think like this because the world became globalized. If you have internet you are able to connect with almost anyone in this world. By learning about different cultures and just learning that people in this world is all different will change people’s view to see the world. Also this book helped me understand more about what the textbook mentions about why anthropologists are needed in business world these days. Anthropologists are specialists about cultures and difference. If all these companies that were mentioned in this book had hired anthropologists in their companies, it might be different. This book was focused about businesses but cultural differences and blunders occur in everywhere these days. I still have blunders when I communicate with my friends. They already know that I do not mean to do that but when it is first time to see
It also shows some more common ideas, like how all families have secrets, and in just a short time, someone’s life can be turned upside down and they have to find the best way to stay strong for themselves and their families. The most important thing I learned from this book, is how some people in other cultures find life to be very difficult when they are trying to do what is best for their family. Anita kept saying America is the ‘free country’ and I couldn’t agree more. So many people want to come here for so many different reasons, and it makes you realize that if our country is so great that people from all over the world want to move here, we are very lucky to be so highly thought
I learned a lot from this book. I learned a lot about why some stores are structured the way they are and how race, class, and gender are deeply imbedded in everything in the world and in everything we do. There is nothing we do that does not involve at least one of these aspects.
In conclusion, this book gave me a whole new view on life and how we can interact better with different people. The book emphasized that culture is key to understanding people. Sometimes it is hard to connect with others because they are indicated as different but in due time we can adjust. Every culture has their own traditions when it comes to what they eat, what to wear, dating, various ceremonies, holidays and more. Reading this book helped me become more accepting of who I am and where I come from.
...more involved with the reading in this course, I understand the political undertones, religious themes, and the cultural awareness that I need in order to fully comprehend the meaning the authors convey. I believe it will be a challenge, but I will have a new perspective as well as new expectations as I continue reading literary masterpieces.
There are many interesting quotes and advice given in this book; five statements stood out that I felt are worthwhile.
This book serves to teach readers about the varieties of cultures, social
On the one hand, by seeing his point of view, we can know more about other places’ cultures and personalities. What the most interesting thing is that before we come to a country, we can read those categories and learn some customers, in this way, we can get to know their habits ahead of time and don’t break their taboos. All of those can avoid some embarrassing things between different cultures. On the other hand, there are many economic mysteries are contained in cultural types. People can seek economic chances based on different cultural categories. So in some way his viewpoint lead people and give some skills about how to get chances from different cultures and get along with people far away from
As companies grow and put heavier weight on the importance of globalization, the need for companies to partake in cultural learning becomes more and more vital. With the various cultures worldwide, companies will find it highly beneficial to not only learn what makes the people within these cultures tick, but more importantly, apply it to their business strategies. In order to successfully manage, merge, or trade with other countries, one must understand how cultures differ from each other and what steps they need to take to be successful when conducting business with these cultures. The use of cultural anthropologists has proven beneficial for companies like Google, Intel, and Microsoft in implementing their business
Business anthropology is a practice or inquiry within the business field that is based on substantive knowledge or methodology, anthropological epistemology, or a blend of these (Jordan, 89). In the beginning of the twentieth century, as a discipline, business anthropology was reinvigorated and fully supported by the business interests in America to build up as an experientially founded social science that could offer a scientific source for social welfare (Kuklick, 134). To some extent, because of this inspiration, the problem-solving and research interests of the American anthropologists in the business field concentrated predominantly on manufacturing efficiency, and they were formed by the customs and conducts of other disciplines, for instance industrial psychology, by means of the Human Relations school. Moreover, following the Second World War, anthropological exploration of industries turned out to be more intellectually independent and split into more than a few literary streams, together with neo-Marxian methods and industria...
Also, how other cultures have had a phenomenal impact on how I view everyday situations and how I draw conclusions, whether it’s about an ethnic group, my own and others or about hot topics in the news. Before this class I did not realize cultural relativism. I really was ethnocentric because I never took the time to evaluate other people’s cultures independently of my own. While I think it is normal for people to judge their peers, coworkers, etc. based on their experiences I also feel it would be beneficial for all of us to take the time to try and understand the sociological point of view of others that are not familiar to us or view things very different from us. The tools I have learned in this class seems to have made me a better listener and emphasizer because I have caught myself listening to people just to hear them and not just to respond. The change in my outlook about being intertwined in society has improved my communication skills at work and at
The book altogether contains very verbose literary language, that may make it difficult for the lay man. There are numerous individual examples that may although relate to culture and imperialism, but is irrelevant or confusing in some part. Overall the book feels like a number of lectures stapled together with no progression of ideas, however everything...
This summer’s course in ‘Business and Society’ was a great opportunity for me to learn more about myself, my perspective of business, the role of government in society, policy makers and most importantly the views of the stakeholders. For the spring semester gone and this summer session almost all classes were tied into my major, giving me a better understanding on what I want out of my degree. My major here at Marymount Manhattan College is Finance and this class has surely helped me in figuring out, the workings of ‘big business’ and its impact on stakeholders. This course has helped me understand why many laws, at one point to me sounded absurd, but are in place to protect both industry and stakeholder. I never thought communication was such a priority in the business world until taking this class. From newly learnt material I see communication as a

I found this topic so interesting and motivating and I believe that I got some new knowledge and skills after attended this assignment topic. My experience has been successfully expanded as a result of attending classes, to include global approach to the international business. I found out that practice for international business has become little bit complicated due to influence of globalization.
When one talks about culture what is the first thought that might pop into one’s mind? Culture is what defines who we all are. It influences a person life on a daily basis considering on how a persons beliefs and values might be. After being in Education 2120, I have started to have a different understanding of what culture really is. We learned about different cultures, ethnicities, race, and other categories that play a factor in everyone’s life. We also learned about how culture changes and adapts in families continuously. Not only have I started to have a different understanding of culture, but I have also begun to have a different form of respect for everyone’s culture. My culture is southern Christian. I am very strong in my southern
