What goes into creating an efficient and aesthetically pleasing space? Is it shopping and placing items, or is it much more complicated? The interior design process is the sequence of steps in creating and executing a design process. The amount of work and effort that goes into a well thought out space is greatly understated, making understanding and knowing the design process significant. Many people don’t fully grasp the full and complicated process of designing, or see the importance of it. Interior designers are fully equipped to know and execute the design process for clients to assure an attractive space that is capable of working to all the specifications of the client. With an interior designer on board, the client is relieved of the …show more content…
This is a synthesis of the plan and program into a physical form. In this step, there is a lot of brainstorming and creativity. Designers will usually gather inspiration images and start creating mind maps which are basically bubble maps with vague ideas and words relating to the design. Preliminary diagrams and thoughts will advance into potential floor plan options. The first idea is typically not the best, just the most obvious; therefore several layouts will be made. There will be many sketches and doodles. Fixture, furniture, and equipment selections will start being thought of. Sample boards involving inspiration images, furniture, finishes, and ideas are created and presented to the Client. Three potential options for the space are typically offered to the client to pick and choose from. The schematic design stage is probably one of the most creative since this is when the designer’s ideas really start flowing and taking shape. After this step, the design can really start to fully …show more content…
This is the contract administration step. This is the step most people think of when thinking of the design process since this is essentially the shopping step. Here, is where the merchandise is ordered. However it is not just ordered, but the designer must also make sure proper delivery and placement is achieved. A designer will create a punch list to check off when these things occur. It’s not just the fun shopping part that occurs in this step, though. Permits also have to be obtained. This allows the team to actually demolish and rebuild in the space according to the safety requirements and specifications in that particular area. The design team will supervise the installation or construction work, and site inspections will take
Interior Decorators such as Elsie de Wolfe, Eleanor McMillen Brown, and Dorothy Draper helped to pave the way for the Interior Design profession today. Their influential decisions to stray away from the Victorian style of design helped guide both the interior decorating profession, as well as architects who no longer wanted to design in the bulky and cluttered Victorian Style. Elsie de Wolfe designed during the Victorian movement, however “had adopted the 1890’s preference for Neoclassicism” (Smith, 22). Unlike the cluttered and dark interiors of an average Victorian interior, her interiors were, “in the words of one visitor, ‘[models] of simplicity’” (Smith, 20).
...hey have entered the house, and then keeps it as you pass through the disappearing walls, pivoting doors, retractable stairs, and floating floors. It incorporates architecture, interior architecture and furniture design to create a total design that can be modified for different occupants. It truly is functional space.
At the end of nineteen century, the implication of home inner design had not yet stationary. However, Elise de Wolfe used her aesthetic sensibility and her family background to introduce aesthetics to the field of architecture. The professional term "interior design” now born in architect’s industrial. She subverted the prevailing Victorian design. Her work was considered as a break through from old design and a cornerstone of merging modern interior design. She was hailed as one of those pioneers who prevailed on the development of the career of interior design.
Interior design is becoming increasingly popular all over the world. There is simply nothing more enjoyable than to relax in your own well-decorated and organized home.
During this phase, the lender sends an inspector, field engineer, or appraiser, to determine if the builder completed a certain milestone. Only then are they allowed to take a “draw” to pay for materials and sub-contractors. The big part of the funding comes after completion of the home construction. If all goes well and the borrower is satisfied, the builder hands them the key and the new homeowner signs a certificate of occupancy.
Before building any structure, it is very important to make sure that you have laid the proper groundwork. It creates stability, longevity, and allows the building process to confidently proceed efficiently and effectively. I find this development process, seeing a project through from start to finish, is very fulfilling. There is something about experiencing a finished product that is rewarding which is the reason pursuing a Master’s Degree in Strategic Leadership & Design is a perfect fit for where I am advancing my career.
After several years of use and abuse of natural resources, humanity begins to awaken from its stunned by the advances of technology, to understand the magnitude of the impact caused by its presence in the environment. At present, trends in various aspects of human activity seek to achieve a harmonious relationship with nature; one of them is the practice of interior design. The main reason because the construction industry, in particular, has incorporated especially such attention, is the result that it has proved to be one of the main sources of pollution in water, air, and noise
“Imagine being able to walk through your new home or office building, go into every room, try out different colors on the walls or make changes to the design – before it’s even built. It sounds pretty amazing, and it is. That is the world of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) drafting.”
Throughout the world, there are an abundance of diverse cultures, each truly unique in comparison to another. Culture is described as the “characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts” (Zimmermann). Each of these traits is what sets each society apart, and is what influences their expression of design. Throughout this course, we’ve learned how planning and design have varied all through history, however we decided to take it a step further and focus on how different regions throughout the world create spaces that reflect their own cultures’ particular interests. Being a group composed entirely of Interior Design majors, our emphasis is investigating the use of material, color, motifs and layouts of their interior spaces, and how they reflect their societies. Not only do we explore a culture’s influence on design, but we briefly touch on environmental factors as well. Of all of the regions throughout the world, we decided to focus our research on the cultural practices and designs of Mexico, India, and Japan. Our reasoning behind centering on these three cultures is that these cultures are some of the most well-known, yet each entirely distinct within their own way, thus providing a greater understanding of design styles around the world.
The physical- financial entity is a balance of two different components working towards the same common goal. Each one has their areas of focus and attributes to contribute to the project. If one has more influence than the other, an imbalance could occur and result in problems with the development and its success. The physical side must work with the architects, engineers, and construction team to create the schematic design and budget possibilities for the project in the predevelopment stage. This will include alternatives and rough preliminary designs. When the development moves over to the document development stage, they become responsible for the construction documents, budgeting, and schedules for the actual construction of the project. The financial side of the development involves the business side of the project. This is where the market and marketability studies will be conducted and various feasibility and investment analysis reports will be submitted. The financial entity of the development will continue to work through the predevelopment and document development stages to put forth the best suited analysis for the market, feasibility, and marketability studies.
The work of an interior designer requires a natural skill to work with people and to decipher what a client desires. "The designer's job is to evaluate, plan, and design the interior areas of residential, commercial, and industrial places." (Careers in Focus: Design.) A few simple jobs consist of helping clients to select fixtures and furniture, supervising the coordination of colors and materials, obtaining estimates and costs within the client?s budget, and overseeing the execution and installation of the project. Some very important details designers must be aware of are the architectural requirements, space planning, and the function or purpose of the environment.
Client(s) may be in the first stage of our design thinking sequences (Archer, 1984, p. 67), and then the designer job is to explore what is the problem, what do we want, what do they need: to produce a design to meet the requirements. The initial design problem presented to the designer may be poorly and incompletely described (McDonnell, 1997, p. 45...

Interior design is a complicated profession. It is sometimes referred to as interior architecture and often confused with interior decorating. It involves managing a business, hopefully meeting the desires of the client and delivering to them an interior environment that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. There is a lot more to interior design than first meets the eye.
