Interdependence Of American Countries

I believe that the world is not governed by interdependence. Countries will not aid each other unless there is an interest. There are many examples, such as Rwanda, Syria and Israel, where countries have been in need, but received no aid because other countries seemingly have had no reason to help them. We have companies who only look at the profit margins and hold no regard for working conditions.

Countries in need are not given aid because they hold no interest to the countries capable of providing assistance. When the Rwandan Genocide occurred, the United States gave no aid because Rwanda had nothing to offer, and American lives would have been at risk.

We are now experiencing a difficult situation in Syria because of the civil war.

All of which could have been avoided with UN intervention. Instead of allowing refugees to come into our countries, they are living in refugee camps, sometimes for years. These countries and their people are now left in turmoil because of the lack of action.

Over the last sixty years, there has been conflict between the Israeli and Palestinian people. Long standing disputes about the history of the land and who belongs there. Extremism and displacement have become common occurrences in the country. There have been many half hearted attempts to resolve this situation over the years, none of which were successful, because the world has never tried working together to achieve this goal.

There are huge Multinational corporations that hold monopolies on industries, but still choose not to help develop their factories or upgrade the working conditions. The factories in which clothing and other goods are created, have inhumane conditions with unfair wages and profit from the use of child labor. These conditions are not only illegal, but say something about the ability to profit off of other people's suffering and the greed that we humans possess.

In conclusion, I believe that for us to have a true interdependent global society, we need to show compassion for other nations and their people. We must think not as separate countries, but as a worldwide community that strives in working toward its goals. A world where we have no widespread poverty, no more dreadful working environments, and better living conditions for all.
