For my age, my personal role and participation with social media sites, communities and applications is underwhelming to say the least. I am not involved in many sites, I do however have a Facebook profile, but am not an active user. The applications in which I am an active user are Instagram and Snapchat. As for an online community, I do take part in a fantasy football community. However, my interaction is only with people I know well on all the above platforms. Instagram is a social media application where users are afforded the ability to share photos with their followers. As Instagram has grown it has become multimodal. You are now able to chat through Instagram, post videos as well as many other features. As a user of Instagram, I only use a small portion of the available features that Instagram offers. Like most social media platforms they evolve and create what some may consider empty content. Empty content are posts such as memes or click-bait, which are headlines for articles with a link attached to it. This is a major reason why I stay off of other social media platforms. Snapchat has progressed over the years adding and updating their features. Features such as, Story, face filters that over the past year have become multimodal allowing users to chat through instant message, calling or

Like Facebook, Instagram offers an environment where people can upload pictures and videos and other people can comment and like what is posted. Pictures that are uploaded on Instagram can be shared on Facebook. This expands the communication environment of Facebook. Facebook has become very big with video and picture sharing. Users can comment on various videos and pictures uploaded by their peers. Users also have the option to like videos and pictures. Other people can see these interactions being done, which leads to other people seeing the pictures and videos. Many advertisements are also used on Facebook. Since Facebook receives a lot of traffic from people, videos that advertise products can be uploaded to Facebook, so they can get more attention. People are able to attach recent news articles onto their profile that can be shared with their friends and family members. All of these are useful techniques and lead to a larger communication discourse
