Family history is something that has always been known, as been a good indicator of what your kid’s health is going to be like. However there are some to believe that this is not a good indicator. Epigenetics studies the change of genetic expressions and how it has an affect on others genes. It can do that by switching genes on or off and determine what proteins are transcribed. There are lots of factors in life that can change genetic expressions. Epigenetic signals from the environment can even be passed down from generations to the next, without changing a single gene sequence. Epigenetic changes are something that is normal and apart of human development. However, some of the changes can be harmful to people. Not all changes in genetic expression are for the good. Some can cause disease and even depression. Think of a big city where there are tons of cars and factories that pollute the air. After thinking about that and reading about epigenetics, environmental interactions do have an impact on people’s genes and health. Different environmental factors can damage some linkage DNA, and possibly alter genetic traits for generations to come. Environmental factors cause genes to be turned on and off. When the genes get turned on and off it can be for the good or bad depending on lifestyle factors. Epigenetics is the word that is used for genes that are modified in order to assist certain genome sequences that lead to diseases and disorders. Epigenetics has come a long way since the first genome sequence had its draft breakthrough in the year 2000 (NOVA 2012). From depression to cancer, epigenetics has made its way through to provide families with the appropriate knowledge and perhaps medication in order to avoid these diseases and disorders in the future.

I chose the video” Cracking your genetic code” after i watched a bit of the intro. In this video it starts off talking about the future and to imagine what it would be like if we had our genetic codes and the risks our genetic codes may hold for our future. This video makes us think about what it would be like to have the technology to figure out what meds might or might not save our lives along with predicting any illness, disease or just to give us answers as to why things are happening in our bodies. Throughout the novel, He used several distinct phenomena to illustrate the importance of what people inherit and how life experience can change genes. He shows readers the importance of what they inherit by showing how what you inherit can help or hurt you. In conclusion, air pollution affects the immune system, making it weak and vulnerable to certain bacteria, illnesses, viruses and foreign invaders. Common diseases that are affected the most include asthma and allergies. Air pollution in general has been seen to modify the immune system's handling of particular allergens. The exposure to toxins like dioxin can cause serious health problems for people. Having long-term exposure to this toxin is connected to weakening of the immune system, as well as the nervous system, endocrine system and certain reproductive functions. Hence, everyone has a particular level and exposure of dioxins in the body. Improving air quality is the key answer to avoiding any type of development of disease, but it is a long term goal that will require the help and commitment at the national and global level.
