Inherit the Wind The main theme of Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee is taking a stand. The play begins in Hillsboro, Tennessee when a man named Bertram Cates breaks the law by teaching the forbidden Darwin’s Theory. The most famous orators of the time, Matthew Harrison Brady and Henry Drummond came to this small religious town of Hillsboro. Brady is prosecuting against Cates and Drummond is defending him. After days of battle, the verdict is finally decided and Bertram Cates is found guilty. Many people take stands for different reasons. Some take stands to send a message out that needs to be sent. That is what happened in this play. A man named Matthew Harrison Brady did exactly that. A gray-haired man, he believes strongly in the Bible took the stand. Although his partner Tom Davenport strongly disagreed with Brady’s actions. Brady thought that this would benefit his trial. “Your Honor, this is preposterous!” (page 75) said Davenport as he tries to object to Drummond’s witness (Brady). The judge believed the actions of Drummond to be highly unorthodox and claimed to have never known a prosecuting attorney to be called as a witness. Brady agreed replying,...
Judge Fahey felt that affidavits provided by Dascoli’s mother and ex- girlfriend in support of Dascoli were weak and insubstantial, as well as not credible given the fact the defendant had the opportunity to advise Kelly of first aggressor evidence failed to do so. Additionally, in reference to an affidavit written by a medical expert, Fahey states that his conclusion was “without sufficient factual basis, and is, at best, conjecture and
Clarence Earl Gideon was arrested in 1961 and charged with breaking and entering a pool hall with intent to commit theft, by taking money out of vending machines. What he did at the time was considered a felony. When it came time to have the trial he did not have enough money for a lawyer and asked that one be appointed to defend him. The judge denied the request saying that under Florida state law counsel can be appointed only in a capital offense. Since Gideon didn’t have a lawyer and was not educated to defend himself he lost easily to the prosecution.
Thomas Morton came to the New England in the year 1622. Morton was educated for the law at Oxford. Upon his arrival to Plymouth people had already heard he came with shady past. He had come by his inheritance from which he was “plaintiff, lawyer, and beneficiary” (McWilliams pg 5).
The novel Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer has a very in-depth conflict that is showcased all throughout the novel. In Theo's community, there is a high-profile murder trial about to begin. Mr. Pete Duffy, a wealthy business man, is accused of murdering his wife Myra Duffy. The prosecutors have the idea that Mr. Duffy did it for the one million dollar insurance policy he took out on his wife earlier, however they have no proof to support this accusation (Grisham 53). The defendants do however have the proof that no one saw the murder, for all everyone knew, Mr. Duffy was playing his daily round of golf at the golf course right by his house. As the trial moved on, the jury was starting to lean towards letting Mr. Duffy walk a free man. To this point, there has been no proof to support the prosecutors statements that Mr. Duffy killed h...
In "Annabel Lee", a young man is mourning the death of a beautiful young lady. Even though the woman had died quite some time ago, the man is still in melancholy. He misses her terribly and constantly thinks of how she was she was tragically taken from him by the angels who were jealous of their love, and by her family who didn't think the he himself was capable of bringing her to her final resting place. He loved Annabel Lee more than anyother human can love another. The following quote tells the reader how much he loves her and shows that he would do anything for her, even if that means sleeping by her tomb, each and every night. "And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side of my darling, my life and my bride, in her sepulchre there by the sea, in her tomb by the side of the sea."

from the victim and the scene of the crime be tested and his appeals were denied ("A.B. Butler").
“The trial was brought to a speedy conclusion. Not only did Judge Evans find the twelve guilty, fine them $100 each, and committed them to jail, but five people in the courtroom who had served as witnesses for the defense arrested. […] The police were then instructed to transfer the seventeen prisoners that night to the county jail”(30).
The Kite Runner focuses on the relationship between two Afghan boys Amir and Hassan. Amir is a Pashtun and Sunni Muslim, while Hassan is a Hazara and a Shi’a. Despite their ethnic and religious differences, Amir and Hassan grow to be friends, although Amir is troubled by Hassan, and his relationship with his companion, one year his junior, is complex. Amir and Hassan seem to have a "best friend" type relationship. The two boys, Hassan and Amir, are main characters in the book titled, The Kite Runner. The two boys have a relationship that is significantly different compared to most. There are many different facets that distinguish the relationship the boys possess. The boys do write their names in a pomegranate tree as the "sultans of Kabul" (Kite Runner 27) but, their friendship is not strong and it is one sided. Hassan has love for Amir. He loves him like a brother. Hassan is exceedingly loyal to Amir. The relationship between the two boys is emotionally wearing and rather gloomy for the most part. The main reason for their complicated relationship is the fact that Amir is Pashtun, and Hassan is Hazara. The Afghan society places Hassan lower than Amir. Hassan is Amir's servant. The placement of Hassan in the Afghan society disenables Amir from becoming Hassan's true friend. Amir sees Hassan as lower than human. Amir ruins the chance for friendship between himself and Hassan because he is jealous of Hassan, he thinks of Hassan as a lower human, and because Amir possesses such extreme guilt for what he has done to Hassan. Amir is an unforgivable person overall.
...y’re dumb. Here is a quote from Mr. Michie before the trial was, “One of the things I’d tried to impress upon the kids throughout the year was the importance of speaking up intelligently about matters that concerned them.” (P.8). What he did to get rid of the thoughts was a court trial, to get everyone involved with the situations; he wanted his students to voiced their opinions about the cased that they felt strongly toward.
To begin, the most obvious difference between high school and college is that high school is free while students have to pay for college. During high school years the only things that requires money would be school supplies and things wanted by students. High school students have free access to learning and textbooks and that’s different for college students. College requires payment to attend classes and to use text books new or used. However, colleges do have payment plans, access to scholarships and financial aid, and the state may even provide grants making the
Overall, there are many similarities with High school and College, as well as many differences. The two main things that we can take away from these comparisons is that the workload is going to increase from High School to College. The second it that the social aspect in college will not be any different than meeting someone new in any other circumstance. Lastly if students can control their time management as they reach higher education, the adjustment will be exciting,
Both high school and college make a certain commitment to each student. They are committed to provide the students with remarkable opportunities to pursue and enhance their education. For example, scholarships, loans, and financial aid can provide the student with an opportunity to pursue his or her education, no matter what their financial status is.
High school, as well as college, is just another part of our lives. But in order to go to college, we have to go through the agonizing four years of high school. In those four years, we experience loads of homework, trying to choose classes with friends, and the minuscule amount of freedom that is given. College is similar to when it comes to all the homework, choosing classes, and sometimes not being trusted. But they are still different in many ways. High school and college have many differences but similarities as well.
Even though the differences between college and high school are broad, the same statement could be made about the similarities between the two. Both levels of schooling have their positives and negatives. People should learn to enjoy both levels because they only come once and you only get one chance to live each one. The experience you could get in both levels could be the greatest of people 's lives. Go out and live
