“Inglourious Basterds” is a Quentin Tarantino film that is set during Germany’s occupation on France, WWII. As Jim Emerson says the movie is not about the war particularly, it is more of a setting for the plot. And considering the ending of the film, we could safely say that it’s also not historically accurate. That rules out World War II as a key theme in the film.
Citizen Kane, Orson Welles’ cinematic classic, is a film that centers on a group of reporter’s investigation into the meaning of Charles Foster Kane’s last uttered word, “Rosebud.” Citizen Kane ' brings into light many social problems between countries, relationships, and also between competing newspaper companies. It brings into light how a newspaper should react and also brings the corruption of politics. War was breaking out in Europe and throughout the entire film Kane states there will be no war. He ignores the fact people are being killed, tortured, and rounded up like livestock.
In Schindler’s List, as the Jews in Kraków are forced into the ghetto, a little girl on the street cries out, “Good-bye, Jews,” over and over again. She represents the open hostility often shown the Jews by their countrymen. After all, the little girl did not contain this hatred naturally—she learned it. Through her, Spielberg sends the message that the evil of the “final solution” infected entire communities.
“Do you have the slightest idea what a moral or ethical principle is?” Deontology, or the adherence of one’s actions to a certain moral or ethical principle of operation, stands as an intruiging philosophy by itself. The opening sentence of this essay clearly possesses relevance to deontology. However, the quote does not originate from any philosopher, but instead from Jack Torrance of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. The film, from a superficial point of view, stands as an atmospheric horror film. However, instead of providing audiences with just a technically proficient film, Kubrick weaves the grounds for a foreboding subtext throughout his film. This essay examines The Shining by examining Robert Tonkin’s distinction between religion and
The enduring power of Orson Welles’ 1941 film Citizen Kane arises from its profound exploration into ideas each deeply embedded within the heart of the human experience. A multitude of perspectives and contradictions shape and shroud our insight into protagonist Charles Kane’s enigmatic existence. Specifically, Welles explores the corrupting nature of excessive power, the significance of childhood to affect his ability to maintain adult relationships, and the complexity of human nature.
Often regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, Citizen Kane written and directed by Orson Welles is a classic film that defied the conventional styles of the Hollywood Cinema. Welles was committed to the Mise-En-Scene of his movies by using his characters, props, settings, and even the camera to tell the story of his characters. The Lighting, the camera shots, and the character 's actions to depict the life of Charles Foster Kane. The Mise-En-Scene of this narrative creates a film that is ahead of it’s time and a genius innovation to the cinema.
The story of Charles Foster Kane was truly one that could go on as timeless. Born in poverty Kane was given away with the promise of having a better life. In a material point of view Kane lived a very fulfilling life filled with anything he ever wanted. Although throughout the movie, Kane despised the situation in which he was brought up in. Being placed under the care of his mother’s banker really influenced the way he viewed the world. He considered himself a people’s person a sort of hero for those in worse situations than his own. The mass appeal for this character along with the truly original storyline and plenty other factors led many people everywhere to gain a huge appreciation of this movie. Despise its early failure following its

‘Our interest in the parallels between the adaptation inter-texts is further enhanced by consideration of their marked differences in textual form,’
The film that I have chosen to analyze is “The Purge”. “The Purge” is a 2013 American horror film directed by James DeMonaco. It was released on June 7, 2013, to mixed reviews. I will be analyzing “The Purge” by looking at conflict theory, class division, the importance of the ethnicity of each individual character, and the government’s overall political and economic agenda. In brief, I believe that Purge night takes place because of Conflict theory, due to political and economic agendas.
“Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get” (Zemeckis, Forrest Gump). The Academy Award Winner for Best Picture star Tom Hanks portrays the good-hearted but everlasting challenged man that deals with vast life changing dramatic problems, Forrest Gump. The drama-filled romantic comedy was directed by Robert Zemeckis and screenplay written by Eric Roth. In the film, Zemeckis illustrates Forrest as a guy that describes several messages from life lessons on love to the responsibility of ethics. A portion of the viewers may find Forrest Gump as a trivial movie while others pose a question as such: What makes Forrest Gump such a memorable human? From the moment Forrest Gump arrived on the scene of the
For this assignment, I decided to do my film review on To Kill a Mockingbird (Mulligan, R., & Pakula, A. (Directors). (1962). To Kill a Mockingbird[Motion picture on VHS]. United States of America.) I have a personal connection to this film because it is one of my most beloved novels by Harper Lee. I have never watched the film so it was a nice experience to see the characters I have loved for years come to life just before my eyes. The film particularly focuses on a white family living in the South of the United States in the 1930s. The two siblings, Jem and Scout Finch, undergo major changes while experiencing evil and injustice in their small town of Maycomb. Jem and Scout’s father is named Atticus and he is a well-respected man in the town as well as being a lawyer.
I have never really met another character quite like Forrest Gump in a movie. And for that matter, I have never quite seen a movie like “Forrest Gump,” either. In order to describe Forrest Gump, it will take quite an amount of work to make the movie seem more conventional, or normal. The movie is a coined a comedy, I guess. It could be a drama film though, or even a dream. This movie is very magical and creates quite the picture of emotions for anyone who views it.
Another movie by the famous producer “Quentin Tarantino”. Inglourious Basterds set in France in the time of Hitler’s takeover and the Nazis introducing a group of Americans called “The Basterds” Sent in to destroy the Nazi’s from the inside. The movie starts off at a cabin/farm owned by a man named Perrier LaPadite. Who is harboring Jewish people when a group of Nazis show up with Hans Landa AKA “The Jew Hunter”. For a random visit after a family of Jews appear to still be in France. But Hans eventually finds out from Perrier he’s harboring jews so he has them killed through the floorboards. But one of them escapes a girl by the name of Shosanna Dreyfus. The scene ends and cuts to a few years later. Showing the very first look of the group called the ‘Basterds”. Being recruited by Lt. Aldo Raine explaining their plan for the Nazis.
Are we human if we don’t have a choice to choose between acting good or acting evil? A Clockwork Orange directed by Stanley Kubrick is a brutal film that entails many sociological meanings. Alex DeLarge and his “droogs” (gang) live in a derange society of “ultra-violence” and rape. Alex and his gang cause havoc around the town that leads to the “droogs” turning on Alex during a mischievous act on an innocent women and Alex getting arrested. While in prison he is chosen for “treatment” that is suppose to purify Alex and turn him into the “perfect citizen”. We’ve gone over many sociological concepts in class, but the three that I believe apply the most to this film are socialization, deviance, and resocialization.
The Prestige is a movie about magicians that turn into enemies when a magician’s wife dies in an accident on stage. Angier’s wife dies when she is doing a trick with him and another magician Borden. Borden is possibly the one that caused her death depending on the kind of knot he tied for the trick. Throughout the movie we see several different parts of what we have seen or read in the recent chapters. Anywhere from love and attraction to aggression to the law; this movie seemed to have it all.
