Mayra’s speech was to inform the audience about Mexicans crossing the border illegally to the United States. Specifically, it was about unaccompanied minors who crossed the border due to poverty, violence, and family reunification. Overall, Mayra did an extraordinary job in the use of suitable visuals and the organization of her speech. However, a couple things that she could focus more on for the next assignment is the delivery of her speech in vocal variety and articulation.

Recently illegal immigration has become a very pressing issue among people. Many people around the borders are being greatly affected by the issue and think immediate action needs to be taken to put a stop to the issue. The Documentary Border War: Battle Over Illegal Immigration takes a stand on the issue using many examples of pathos, ethos, and logos to try and persuade people that illegal immigration is a very serious issue and we need to put a stop to it. This documentary follows the lives of people who have been affected by illegal immigration, and explains how they feel about the issue. Another way that people can look at the issue of illegal immigration is through the eyes of the immigrants, and the reasons why they might be trying migrate to another country. The documentary Wetback: The Undocumented Documentary focuses on the issue from this point of view. This documentary uses pathos and logos to show the lives and hardships of those people who are trying to migrate to a new country. Although Wetback used many examples of pathos and logos to show the struggles of the migrants, Border War did a better job showing pathos by following the lives of people who were affected by the illegal immigrants they were also very persuasive with ethos by following credible people.
When the class was first asked to think of a topic for our reflective paper, this scenario was one that I could vividly remember as if it had just occurred yesterday. I have improved most in the WOVE area of visual communication this semester. Beginning the course, I did not know the correct way to create a powerpoint presentation that supports the speaker without being a distraction. This semester, I learned that only minimal wording is required on the slides to deliver the main points. The majority of the slideshow can be pictures, charts, or graphs, so long as it remains relevant to the topic. I specifically remember using this new technique for my part of the visual analysis presentation, keeping my bullet points to under five words, if possible.

Cheech Marin’s film, Born in East L.A., spotlights many key issues brought upon mainly by immigration. This comedic production hits the hearts to many because while it may be humorous, it is also a reality to hundreds of thousands of people worldwide and so it hits close to home to many. Immigration is the main topic of this motion picture, but I want to focus on one subdivision of it only; language. The linguistic barriers in between a border is evident in the movie and especially a reality in our world.
Maintaining the courage to deliver genuine and powerful speeches never came easy to the protagonist, however soon he had become this completely new speaker. He had a fire inside him that had just ignited with the right scenario. As he was walking through the city, he came across an eviction taking place and noticed how broken inside the people being evicted were. Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. In the video “The Hidden World of Chili Peppers,” Stephen the speaker is giving an informative speech on the history of chili peppers. The video is broken up into two parts. In the first part of the video Stephen is being showed giving an informative speech that needs lots of improvements. He is unorganized and improperly dress. In the second part of the video the viewer see Stephen properly dressed and very organized. Each part of the video provided important information on the proper and wrong way to deliver an informative speech. I will analysis what went wrong in the first speech, and how Stephen improved in the second speech. I thought that both parts of the video were informative,

My mind has been opened to a wide range of diversity as a result of being a listener to many different types of speeches from classmates some of which touched on culture during our presentation practices in class. From various practices we carried out I was taught how to use my voice appropriately in delivering my message, how to organize my thoughts logically and how to develop confidence on stage.
While each speaker argues, presents data, and criticizes our actions we see snippet after snippet of images as each speaker narrates their part. It becomes a collage that allows us to visually see what each speaker is describing and saying. The images are horrifying and not aestheticized until the very end. For example, Stephan Hawking paints a picture of how the futuristic earth would resemble Venus, with extremely high temperatures and with sulfuric rain. While Hawking describes this scene we are shown images of Venus.
