Informative Speech On Obesity

Obesity is an issue that most people may be aware of, but I don't feel like many people actually know the ins and outs of it and how bad it really is. Although the speech that Jamie Oliver gave was about teaching children about food, I feel as if we need to teach adults about food just as much as children. From my time at being here at Stark, I have noticed that a lot of students here are in their 20's and 30's and all have kids, so yes, I think it could be relevant to college students and they’d also be interested in this topic. This being said, I do think this topic would be relevant to other college students as well. There are students that are studying nutrition and wellness and this topic could easily be relevant to those students. I could trust the material he was presenting because he used a popular and reliable news channel. He also used visual aids to help us visualize the amount of sugar the average child’s intakes in a one month span in just milk alone. He stated that he was a chef and that he uses information and education instead of expensive equipment. Being that I am in the Culinary Arts program here at Stark, I know what classes are needed to become a chef, and a nutrition class is required. I know that there is a lot of information to learn and read about to know all of the things that he has stated. …show more content…

I find this interesting because mostly what it shown on the news or shared on Facebook is the amount of deaths caused by murder or something else. Not once have I personally seen a news article show up on my Facebook news feed or on the news channel regarding death caused by obesity. He used stories in his speech that included him talking to other people about this issue. I found his material interesting because he talked to your every day average family to show that this is a problem with people that he has personally talked
