They include historical homes, unique covered bridges, government buildings, and breathtaking churches. Some of Pennsylvania’s most recognized examples of great architecture are Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Fallingwater” and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts located in Philadelphia. Established in 1848, the city of Syracuse was originally centered on the Eire Canal, which made it a central communication point and an appropriate place to build new community. The city was originally called Bogardus Corners, but as the city began to grow, the postman suggested the change of name to Syracuse. The city of Syracuse is currently the home of 163,860 people who enjoy the benefits of culture, entertainment and a strong sense of community.
Delaware, one of the thirteen British Colonies, became a sovereign state in 1776 and gained its independence from Great Britain on June 15th, 1776. On February 22, 1779 Delaware signed the Articles of Confederation, then later became the first state to ratify the Constitution, sometime around December 1787. For its ratification, Delaware is known as the “First State.” This state got its “Delaware” name from the Delaware River as you can see the resemblance. The motto that Delaware goes by is “Liberty and Independence,” and became their motto when it was added to Delaware's state seal. Some other nicknames that have been given to Delaware over time would be “Diamond State” and “Blue Hen State”.
It got the nickname The First State because it was the first state to ratify the constitution. It got the nickname the Diamond State because they are the world leaders in diamond mining. Delaware was some really neat geography because they have swamps, rivers, lakes, but they really don’t really have

Following the steps of the Dutch who first came to Lower Manhattan, we embarked on the Staten Island Ferry on Sunday, Nov. 10, and we could see one of the world’s most famous figures: The Statue of Liberty, a gift from the French to the U.S. that was put in such a strategic and historic place. The view of the green icon from the boat that was transporting passengers from Staten Island to Lower Manhattan, with the skyline of New Jersey in the background, and New York to our right, was a delightful experience. Not one person on the ferry was like the other, one could see people from all over the world, joined together and representing New York’s diversity, trying to relive the same experience that the Dutch had centuries ago. Some people take this ride every day for work; others were simply tourists or inhabitants of the New York metropolitan area.
New York, constituent state of the United States of America, is one of the 13 original colonies and states. New York is bounded to the west and north by Lake Erie, the Canadian province of Ontario, Lake Ontario, and the Canadian province of Quebec; to the east by the New England states of Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut; to the southeast by the Atlantic Ocean and New Jersey; and to the south by Pennsylvania. The capital is Albany. Until the 1960s, New York was the country’s leading state in nearly all population, cultural, and economic indexes. When you associate anything with New York City it is usually the extraordinary buildings that pierce the sky or the congested sidewalks with people desperate to shop in the famous stores in which celebrities dwell. Even with my short visit there I found myself lost within the Big Apple. The voices of the never-ending attractions call out and envelop you in their awe. The streets are filled with an atmosphere that is like a young child on a shopping spree in a candy store. Although your feet swelter from the continuous walking, you find yourself pressing on with the yearning to discover the 'New York Experience'.
I came across many monuments in my research for this paper. I was very intrigued by monuments in New York City. Many people forget about the less talked about monuments. Such as the Flatiron Building and Gracie Mansion. Of course they are those well-known monuments as well. There is the UN building, which has been around since 1949. Penn Station is also another well-known monument. It has been around since the early 1900’s. There are many others including Grand Central Station, the George Washington Bridge, the Cathedral of St. John and Yankee Stadium just to name a few.
