Intro Imagine you’re at home, watching TV. It’s pouring rain outside, and you are as comfy as ever. All of the sudden, the wind picks up and the rain falls harder. You hope it’s a cloud burst, but on the television you have heard hurricane warnings. Your face goes white as you realize a horrific storm is on it’s way. Hurricanes are enormous storms with pouring rains and whirling winds that happen between August and October. (Sometimes even in early November.) Though it’s very important, many people don’t know the danger of hurricanes. Body 1: How hurricanes are formed Hurricanes always start out as tropical disturbance. Rain clouds build over warm tropical waters. Once this has happened, the storm turns into a tropical depression. The rotating winds start out at about 38 miles per hour (61 km per hour). The tropical depression morphs into a tropical storm when winds hit 39 mph ( 62 kn per hour). If the winds reach 74 mph (120 km per hour) the storm is officially a hurricane.
