Introduction
I. According to the webpage www.ideafinder.com accessed on March 9th, updated May 5th 2005, before the hair dryer also known as a blow dryer was invented women used a hose attachment on a vacuum cleaner to dry their hair.
II. My invention I have been researching to talk about is the hair dryer.
III. As a woman with long hair I use the hair dryer on a daily basis so I don’t have wait for my hair to air dry.
IV. Today I will talk about the invention of the hair dryer, its history, and the modern version of the hair dryer.
First, let’s look at the history of the hair dryer.

Godefroy was a French stylist and patented the hair dryer for use in his own salon
B. His hairdryer did produce heat but it did not blow air.
C. It was powered by diesel fuel.
D. The hair dryer he made was a sit down dryer with a large metal hood, it closely resembles what is used in hair salons today.
II. In 1908 American Gabriel Kazanjian filed for a patent to improve the hair dryer.
A. Gabriel was able to obtain the first patent for the hand held hair dryer in 1911.
B. The hair dryer uses an electric fan to blow air across a heating coil; as the air passes through the dryer it heats up. When the warm air reaches wet hair it helps evaporate the water.
C. Gabriel’s hand held hair dryer only produced about 100 watts of heat and did not have enough power to dry hair quickly.
D. Also it weighed a little over 2lbs because of being made of heavy steal and zinc.
E. It had a high chance of electrocuting the individual using the hair dryer.
F. Hair dryers were the cause of hundreds of deaths by electrocutions up until changes were made in the 1970s and the 1990s,
Now that we have discussed the history of the hair dryer, let’s consider the modern hair
In 1909, Morgan opened a tailoring shop, selling coats, suits and dresses. While working in this shop he came upon a discovery which brought about his first invention. He noticed that the needle of a sewing machine moved with such a high speed that often its friction would scorch the thread of woolen materials. He then set out to develop a liquid that would be a useful polish to the needle, reducing friction. Once, when his wife called him to dinner, he wiped the liquid from his hands onto a piece of pony-fur cloth. When he returned to his workshop, he saw that the fibers on the cloth were now standing straight. He conceived that the fluid had actually straightened the fibers. In order to confirm his theory, he decided to apply some of the fluid to the hair of a neighbor's dog. The fluid straightened the dog's hair so much, that the neighbor, not recognizing his own pet, chased the animal away. Morgan then decided try the fluid on himself, trying small portions of his hair at first, and eventually his entire head. He was successful and had invented the first human-hair straightener. This invention has helped a lot commercially. A lot of today’s media features people with straightened hair. This might not be possible if Garrett Morgan hadn’t made the contributions he did. He marketed the product under the name the G. A. Morgan Hair Refining Cream and sold by his G. A. Morgan Refining Company, which became a very successful business.

a vacuum cleaner. In a resident of West Union, Iowa, called his invention a carpet sweeper, not a vacuum. This sweeper did have a rotating brush like other sweepers, however, the machine also possessed a great mechanism on top of the sweeper to generate suction. The amazing thing about his machine was that it incorporated water chambers to capture the dust and fine dirt, He states that the air is cleaned as it passes through things and gets the must little trash. Modern men prefer to have a clean look to create an impression in the society and for that shaving daily or regularly is essential. Hair weaving dates back as far as Ancient Egypt and throughout history. Egyptians adored a good hair weave. It was considered a form of self-expression and common practice for them to trim their hair and create dazzling wig out of it. The men on occasion wore more dashing styles of wigs than the women. Women more so used weaving methods because of their diminishing hair. This practice is still used today for men and women who suffer from different types of hair loss.
On May 13th, 1930, Jacob Schick, an american inventor and entrepreneur, invented the electric razor. This invention created a way for men and women to dispose of unwanted body hair without accidentally getting cuts, gashes, and other unwanted injuries. For my fourth technology journal I read an article from Popular Mechanics called, “The Hair Dryer That Doesn’t Get Hot” by Alexander George. In this article Alexander tries the new Dyson Supersonic hair dryer (debuted in September) with a price tag of $400. The Supersonic has a very futuristic look. It has three attachments, and is about the same length as a “normal” dryer. Instead of having the air come out of a nozzle part, there is an open circle at the top. This dryer has the motor in the handle, which is unlike other dryers whose motor is in the back. Furthermore, the air uses a vent called an airfoil. It cleans out dirty and harmful environmental pollutants from our hair including sebum, sweat, actual dirt and greasy residues. (Helmenstine, 2017) This process is done through multiple chemical steps, depending on how the shampoo is made. Understanding the surfactant explicitly, the detergent (surfactant) molecules contain two parts that allow it to remove pollutants from the hair: the polar head hydrophilic group and the lipophilic fatty chain. The hydrophilic part is attracted to the water (is water soluble) and the lipophilic part is attracted to the pollutant. (Hirsch, 2015) Gradually, during the hair washing process, the surfactant lifts away the pollutant and gets taken away from the hair into the water. The polarity of the molecules is determined by the type of surfactant and this effects the type of cleaning. An anionic surfactant has a negatively charged hydrophilic polar group, which does a better job at removing sebum but makes hair drier. Conversely, a cationic surfactant has a positively charged hydrophilic group, which don’t remove as much sebum, but instead make hair
