Cancer can be very overwhelming and scary for the patient especially when they don’t have the emotional support that they need. This is why the American Cancer Society created a program that people can become patient support volunteers, who lend a helping hand and sometimes a shoulder to cry on. Cancer has a great effect on the patient meaning we need to do the best to let them know that we are here for them and will do anything that is needed for them. Some people don’t understand fully what is cancer and how it is formed which is very common especially for patients who recently found out they’ve been diagnosed with cancer. Cancer isn’t contagious but, cancer is a genetic disease that is caused by changes in our genes that control the way our cells function, how they grow and divide. “Cancer can start almost anywhere in the human body, which is made up of trillions of cells.” (National Cancer Institute) stating that you don’t know if when and where cancer cells are going to form in your body. Just the fact that there are “more than 100 types of different cancer” (National Cancer Institute) that is able to produce in your body is terrifying. With this amount of different type of cancer, they’re not all formed into tumors just like Leukemia. As for the cancers that do form tumors can actually use your immune system to their ability by “keeping your immune system from killing cancer cells.” (National Cancer Institute). …show more content…
Their mission is to ”save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer.” (The American Cancer Society). Other than research The American Cancer Society helps inform, encourages and prevention of cancer, such as quitting smoking and also recommending cancer screenings. They also provide information about cancer and emotional support for recently diagnosed cancer patients and

Cancer is a really bad and deadly disease and has caused many deaths around the world, but what if it isn't much of a disease but instead a business, so on the off chance that you had a business offering something that made you well over a hundred billion dollars for every year, would you find a way to kill the requirement for your business? Or, on the other hand, would you bend backwards for cash to keep coming?Cancer is a really bad and deadly disease and has caused many deaths around the world, but what if it isn't much of a disease but instead a business. from food to medicine cancer-causing things are everywhere and put there on purpose for profit. The government has many pros of this too , they make money and thin the population.I just think it's terrible that people could be so selfish and then take lives for money and go to sleep at night. Most people are skeptical when people claim this ,but proof is everywhere and be careful so you don't become a part of the biggest business in the US.
The American Cancer Society’s main concern is assisting people, making profits come second. The American Cancer Society helps patient’s life by finding cures. “For over 100 years, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has worked relentlessly to save lives and create a world with less cancer. Together with millions of our supporters worldwide, we help people stay well and get well, find cures, and fight back against cancer” (American Cancer Society, 2015a). Many people in this world see the importance of the organization and find the interest in donating money or providing anything to help the cause.
The world we live in can be wonderful at times, but can also be dangerous and danger isn’t a good place to start at.The word cancer seems terrifying when someone thinks about it and they should be because there is a lot of types of cancer from all over the word.Cancer is the leading causes of death everywhere you go and it happens from different parts of the body. From someone that doesn’t understand cancer it’s very important to know about the aspects in which they come around. They way a cancer forms, symptons that are caused, and the way each cancer type is treated is very important to consider.
Cancer starts when cells in a part of the body start to grow out of control. Cancer cell growth is different from normal cell growth. Instead of dying, cancer cells continue to grow and form new, abnormal cells. Cancer cells can also invade (grow into) other tissues, something that normal cells cannot do. Growing out of control and invading other tissues are what makes a cell a cancer cell. Cells become cancer cells because of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) damage. DNA is in every cell and it directs all the cell’s actions. In a normal cell, when DNA gets damaged the cell either repairs the damage or the cell dies. In cancer cells, the damaged DNA is not repaired, and the cell doesn’t die like it should. Instead, the cell goes on making new cells that the body doesn’t need. These new cells all have the same abnormal DNA as the first cell does.
Cancer is a deadly disease that millions of people die from a year. Many loved ones are killed with little to no warning affecting families across our world. My family happened to be one that was affected by this atrocious disease. This event changed the way my family members and I viewed cancer.
In 1946, a woman by the name of Mary Lasker, a member of the original ASCC, helped raise more than $4 million for the Society, where one million of it was used to establish and fund infamous cancer research (ACS Inc, 2011). Soon after, Dr. Sidney Farber, one of the Society’s first research grantees, achieved the first temporary cancer remission in a child with acute leukemia using the drug Aminopterin (ACS Inc, 2011). The ACS has been developing research theories for decades, with approximately $3.5 billion dedicated to finding a cure to cancer through research (ACS, 2011). With the ACS name nationally recognized, they were able to help fund many national, government, and hospital prevention strategies and research.
Cancer is a type of disease that has many variations. it is an extremely broad disease, consisting of over 200 different types. It affects millions of people around the world each year. The disease occurs because of an irregular cell growth in the body. The cells uncontrollably divide and grow through the process of mitosis. This creates either benign, or malignant tumors. Benign tumors are not dangerous, but malignant tumors are dangerous and are given the term ‘cancerous’. The malignant tumors can invade other parts of the body by traveling through either the bloodstream, or the lymphatic system. It is a very dangerous disease, it is not contagious, and it can be cured if it is diagnosed and treated early. Many cancers have a different mortality rate, but not all of the different types of cancers have a high mortality rate.
“Cancer affects all of us, whether you’re a daughter, mother, sister, friend, coworker, doctor, or patient” (Aniston). Cancer treatment is a very sore subject, but many people are diagnosed with this disease. However, doctors have ways of finding cancer and treating it. Cancer is a very serious issue that needs to be dealt with in each person who is diagnosed with it. To understand the solution, one has to know the causes, effects, and problems of cancer.
Thanks to the American Cancer Society and all their research efforts cancer has become a much less intimidating disease. In 1913 a group of fifteen people decided that the public needed to know about cancer if any cure was to be found, and they created the American Cancer Society has become an icon in cancer research because their Relay for Life fundraising events have become the biggest fundraiser in the world. The American Cancer Society is a worldwide organization that is focused on controlling the spread of cancer. Originally founded in 1913 in New York City as the American Society for the Control of Cancer (ASCC), it was the only organization to make the public aware of cancer.
The research center holds a “Race for a Cure” run yearly to raise money for breast cancer patients. They not only fund research in the United States, but 17 other countries as well. The Komen research program has made significant progress that has contributed to many important advances in breast cancer over the past 30 years.... ... middle of paper ...

Cancer is very common and affects many Americans. Cancer is defined by “uncontrollable growth of abnormal cells.” When these abnormal cells develop in your body, a tumor can grow. Sometimes tumors aren’t always cancerous. Tissue around it keeps it from spreading.
