Older women wear dresses or skirts. Jeans are for social events for any gender, and all children wear uniforms. Men usually wear casual clothing. A Jamaican’s power to speak and understand English could be different relying on the person's education level. More than 90 percent of Jamaica’s people have an African or mixed ancestry. The country’s small numbered groups have Asians, which are most of whom are Chinese, Indians, Europeans, and Syrians. Jamaica has a tropical climate. The rainfall conflict in size depending on the region it’s in. May and October are it’s rainy seasons. Hurricanes last from June to November. The temperatures are usually 80° to 90°F. Jamaica has a hot, humid climate that is moved by ocean winds. The normal temperature in the winter is 75°F and for summer it is usually 80°F. In the mountains temperatures can drop to 40 °F. The rainy seasons are from May to June and September to November. May and October are the rainiest months.Yearly rainfalls are from about 30 inches around the coast to about 200 inches in the mountains. Jamaica's government is based on the British model of democracy. Even though Jamaica is independent place, it’s part of the commonwealth of Nations and saw Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom as its head of state. She is represented in Jamaica by a governor-general. The governor-general names the leader of the majority party as prime minister, who is the head of government. Representatives are elected by popular vote to serve five-year terms. Elections must be held around every five years. Arawak Indians lived in Jamaica when the explorer Christopher Columbus got there in 1494 and claimed the island for Spain. The Spaniards enslaved the Arawak and later brought Africans to the island as slaves. Disease killed almost all the Arawak. British invaded Jamaica in 1655, and they gained possession in 1670. They continued to fight African slaves called Maroons, who had escaped into the hills when the British arrived. The British and the Maroons signed a peace treaty in 1738. In this paper I covered the geography, lifestyle history, people, and the society. Many different people transformed the history and the culture they have today. The people in Jamaica live in small communities without very much to live off of. Their climate does not range very much and their seasons depend on rain. Although, there society is poor, the people still find ways to live their lives to the fullest.

By the end of the eighteenth century there were more than 300, 000 slaves in Jamaica; and the fact that the slaves outnumbered the plantation owners was unsettling for many of the wealthy, white inhabitants of the island. The political system basically consisted of a governor who represented the Crown and the Assembly of Planters, who both were against the slaves. Adding to the unrest on the island was the existence of the Maroons. When the British invaded the island, they demanded that the Spaniards surrender. In miscalculation, however, they gave them time to consider the offer.
The Caribbean is comprised of a group of island. Jamaica is one of the greatest Antilles. It has a tropical climate. Each country has its own culture, Jamaicans is not an exemption, and they have an assorted and distinctive one. “Their culture is a complex mixture of African, Arabic, European, East Indian, and Chinese roots combining together to create a rich, dynamic heritage” (Gall, 2009).
The Bahamas is an island in the North Atlantic Ocean maybe one day, you can experience how beautiful it is.
They eat a lot of beans and rice, usually mixed with some sort of meat. Such as pork, goat, lamb, and other meats. On the French side, they eat a lot of spaghetti, they eat spaghetti for breakfast, and make shakes out of it. One of the drinks they make is Haitian hot chocolate. It has Haitian cocoa, star anise, (which is a spice) cinnamon, and vanilla. They eat a lot of mushrooms, and other fresh foods. Haiti also has some customs and traditions. Greetings are very important, men usually shake hands, and women throw kisses. Everyone else kiss on the cheek. They also have a lot of other traditions, such as participating in Carnival, it is very close to New Orlean’s Mardi Gra celebration. Sadly many people also participate in voodoo ceremonies, they have voodoo priests, and priestesses. Other occasions they celebrate are baptisms, first communions, and other catholic traditions. United States and Jamaica have many similarities such as they were both under British rule for several years, and they both elect officials to govern the country. However the differences between the two are quite vast when it comes to the quality of education, government, and healthcare. When the three are compared it is clear to see that in terms of where is a better place for a child to grow up the United States is a better place to be.
Like many other countries, race and other social classes affect this tropical island in big ways. Just like America, the majority of upper-class people are white Americans and rich British investors with the lower class being predominantly blacks. The rich white people make their money off of resorts and big banking companies. This is similar to the past when rich Europeans owned massive sugar plantations and the blacks worked in the fields at the plantations it’s just now the jobs have switched around. Now the rich sugar plantation owners are bankers or resort owners and the field workers are now working in the resorts. This way of social class is very similar to Americas but is quickly changing with all of the protests against racism. Slowly
The Jamaican natives and imported African slaves endured Spanish rule for 150 years until the invasion of the British in 1655. The fleet of Admiral Penn and the ground troops of General Venables were able to conquer the island fairly quickly; although there was several failed attempts by the Spanish to regain the land. A civil government was established in English Jamaica in 1663 which attracted settlers to the island (Bennett 84).
When one thinks of Barbados, one thinks of luscious, turquoise blue waters; soft white sand beaches; blue, white clouded skies; fresh fruits; exotic, delicious dishes and honeymoons. One, however, tends to forget the formation of this land. This Caribbean luxury Island has much history and great heritage. Mountains are also a major portion of Jamaica’s landscape. The Population of Jamaica is 2.7 million in 2010 (PAHO, 2012). Jamaica’s climate is tropical with temperatures of 72 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit (CON, 2013). Tainos, also referred to as Arawaks are the first people known to settle in Jamaica. Ethnicity of Jamaica is very diverse. Beliefs and customs in Jamaica are also very diverse with the majority of the population coming from many different countries bringing beliefs, and customs with them. The main Language is English. Government in Jamaica is a parliamentary democracy and is considered an upper middle-income country with a population of 2,769 (WHO, 2014). The health system in Jamaica is overseen by the Ministry of Health, a branch of the Jamaican government. Jamaica has made major strides in improving their economic and health in a relatively short period of time since only becoming an independent country in the year 1962.
