What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a post that replaces the root of a natural tooth. A dental implant is surgically placed into the jawbone beneath the gums. Once the post is in place, a dental prosthesis can be used to replace the crown (visible portion) of the tooth. If multiple teeth are missing, several posts may be placed. These posts can hold a bridge or a denture.
Dental implants fuse with the jawbone; thus, providing a sturdy support system for the new artificial teeth. Once a bridge or denture is mounted on implants, the prostheses remains secure, which allows the individual to feel confident while eating and speaking.
Who is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a great choice for individuals who have had a tooth/teeth removed due to decay, infection or injury, as well as for those born missing a permanent tooth/teeth. While there are removable prostheses available to address these issues, some people have difficulty wearing acrylic appliances. Reasons people have problems wearing these appliances include: a sensitive gag reflex; sore spots and/or jawbone deterioration. Unfortunately, jawbone deterioration is commonly seen following tooth loss. This jawbone deterioration (I.e., bone resorption) occurs even if an individual wears dentures, a partial, a flipper or a bridge. The

In addition, 3D images and/or X-rays may be taken of the mouth. Once this information has been gathered and reviewed, the various implant options available to you will be discussed. If you decide to go ahead with the dental implant procedure, a custom-designed surgical plan will be created for you. On occasion, if X-rays are not able to provide the doctor with the information necessary, a computer tomography (CT) scan may be required. Once all your presurgical testing is complete and your surgical plan has been created, your dental implant procedure can be
This is the process of placing a post into your jawbone. Eventually, implants will allow you to replace teeth you have lost, thus restoring the function and appearance of your teeth.
Amount of the vertical or horizontal augmentation, depicting high quality bone like tissue during reentry, success rate of the dental implants in bone graft area and cloudy histological figures, never can lead to make decision for selecting best treatment for the patients with deficient alveolar ridge, if we do not have detailed map of the recipient bone.
For personal or professional reasons, some people do not want visible clasps on their partial dentures. Clasps are not needed to maintain stability with a semi-precision denture. Interlocking male/female attachments placed on the denture and abutment teeth, which are usually crowned, hold the denture securely in place and provide stability.

Dentistry as a profession over the years has evolved rapidly in light of new scientific evidence. Rapidly evolving science and technology have implemented changes within dentistry as evidenced by new standards and guidelines being produced by nationally recognised associations including National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), Faculty of General Dental Practice (FGDP) and Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) in Scotland, in provision of new scientific evidence. The latest standards and guidelines produced, endorse everyday clinical practice through evidence based dentistry (REF). All dental professionals as part of continued professional development are expected to keep to date on relevant guidelines and knowledge related to their practice (REF). This is supported by the General Dental Council who state all clinicians must maintain their professional knowledge and competence throughout their working career (REF).
Healthcare is a necessity to sustain society. Dentistry is an area of healthcare that I feel extremely passionate about because access to proper dental care is limited, especially in the underserved communities. As an African American, I want to become a dentist and healthcare provider in the hopes of helping patients and adding to the diversification of the field. With a growing minority population in the United States, it has become apparent that there is a shortage of black dentists. This is problematic because underrepresented minorities are in great need of access to culturally connected dentists who understand their clinical needs as much as their lives and their challenges. I believe that when the profession includes a range of ethnicities
Dentures are removable teeth. They’re used for replacing missing teeth and their surrounding tissue. Due to their important role in your mouth, understanding broken denture repairs is also important.
Osseo-integration has changed various features of restorative dentistry, leading to a substantial improvement in the quality of life for patients who have lost their teeth21. Osseo-integrated dental implants used in rehabilitation of teeth loss, have reliably deliver clinical success, and this type of treatment has a significant positive influence on the psychosocial state of edentulous patients22. Osseo-integrated dental implants are completely fixed in bone, and they do not have a resilient interface. Consequently, only minor movements may occur, which are caused by bone deformation under load3.
Introduction: In Canada, general dental health is not part Canada’s national system of health insurance (Medicare) (1) except for some dental surgical procedures that are performed at hospitals. Since Oral health does not come under the Health Act about ninety-five percent of the oral health care services are offered on a fee-for-service basis. Oral health care is under provincial or territorial jurisdiction like other health care services and publically financed dental care programs provide the remaining five percent of oral health care services (2). Thus, majority of Canadians receive oral health via privately owned dental clinics. Privately owned dental care gives these services providers control over dental service charges, types of available treatment for the patients and number of follow-up appointment for treatments or routine care. Service users pay for the dental expenses from their own pockets or utilize insurance coverage (1).
Just about every adult is aware that there will come a time that they might have to seriously consider obtaining dental bridges. Dental bridges actually bridge the gap that is created by the teeth that are missing in a person's mouth. The bridge is made with at least two or more crowns with false teeth. At one time people only considered the traditional fixed dental bridge. However, there are vast improvements in the dental field. Now, there are more types to consider. For example, one improvement is the fixed implant supported dental bridge that people are requesting at dental bridge services in Toronto.
This is done using the branch of dentistry called prosthodontics which establishes the goals of dentistry by replacing the missing teeth and oral and maxillofacial tissues with artificial substitutes. Prosthodontics is either removable prosthodontics or fixed prosthodontics. Fixed prosthodontics is the branch
In the past, diseased or damaged teeth could not be salvaged and in most cases, had to be pulled out. However, in the last three decades, endodontic dentistry has evolved to quite an extent and today, professionals trained in this specialty can help save teeth and repair any inherent damage. Common endodontic procedures include root canal therapy, fixing of broken teeth and repairing dental trauma.
Impression materials are used to register or reproduce the form and relations of the teeth and the surrounding oral tissues (1). Making an impression represents a critical step in processing and fitting of a dental prosthesis (2). Several types of impression materials are produced. These include silicones, polyether, polysulfide and alginate which are available for crowns and fixed partial denture impressions. Silicone impression materials are considered to be suitable impression materials to use for fixed prostheses (3). Also, it has been reported that silicone has the ability to remain dimensionally stable through disinfection procedures (4). Among silicone impression materials, one type of them, called polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) is reported
Growing up I heard many stories from my peers of their experiences at the dentist’s office. It is upsetting to say that most of my visits were vividly terrifying. As a child, the grinding, scratching, and high-pitched twangs of the instruments digging around in my mouth would leave my ears ringing and teeth vibrating every single time. The smell of fluoride and disinfectants permanently infected the air, sending chills through my body the minute I walked in. I quickly learned that latex posses an extremely unappetizing aftertaste. Needless to say, I was not always enthusiastic about going to the dentist’s office and getting braces did not make anything better for me.
First and foremost, cosmetic dentistry is a costly affair. Surgical treatment can cost up to $1000 or more per tooth. And in many cases, dental insurance companies may not provide coverage. For example, dental implants are not covered by insurance companies because they are considered luxury items. Similarly, your local government or health body may not provide any kind of subsidy. Another important factor that needs to be considered is proper oral hygiene. Improper oral hygiene or habits such as smoking can have a negative impact on dental implants. It is very essential to take proper care of the implant or else the implant may fail within a short span of time. Depending on the quality and durability of the materials used, you may have to undergo restorative procedures again in 10 or 15 years after the initial surgery. Even though cosmetic dentistry is a costly procedure, there are several ways to save money. One of the best ways is to get the procedure done in countries such as China or India. In many countries, the costs of surgery are substantially lower and the quality is almost the same as in the developed countries. Dental tourism is a good option for you if you are willing to explore a
