Thanksgiving Day is a day of family, food, and giving thanks for the blessings in life and yet some people believe Thanksgiving to be a prep day for Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. The focus of Thanksgiving shifted from family bonding to incessant shopping. This trend of taking away from the hours of Thanksgiving in order to shop is enraging. It steals away from family time for the shoppers and the employees. Employers threaten workers that if they do not work on that certain holiday, they will be fired. Black Friday should be kept to Friday instead of moving in on my family time. The whole culture of Black Friday has become repugnant and unnecessary.

By the time of the Civil War, every state had established an annual day of thanksgiving to express gratitude for general blessings. In early years of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis issued proclamations appointing days of thanksgiving for military victories. These proclamations referred to God - “the Sovereign Disposer of events” (Davis) and “the Lord of Hosts” (Lincoln), but unlike the Thanksgiving proclamations sometimes issued by governors, they were not Christianized. It seems that two presidents followed the example of Washington,

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holiday’s of the year. It is one of the only time where I can spend time with my family and enjoy quality time. I cram back into the overly packed white sports-mom van that my dad owned and shake the snow from ugly, brown crocs. I feel bad about Andrew's glasses, but a simple bottle of glue will fix whatever damaged I caused with the snowball. Dad reminds us how close we are to our “Thanksgiving vacation.” We stopped for gas about two hours from Great Uncle Willy and Great Aunt Rosemary's house in Ohio. Hearing this, I sink back into my seat and lean my head back onto the broken headrest. I cannot help but remember who these people are. They not only raised my father after his mother's death and his father's abandonment, but also, they hit the age of 70 long before I came into this world. Aunt Rosemary sends letters in incredibly illegible handwriting, only translatable by Dad himself, all the time. However, Dad has never particularly

My house isn’t that grand, but rather cozy. The first thing someone notices when they walk in is(be verb) the kitchen floor. It is(be verb) a light gray tile with a white granite island. The lightAfter that is the stove top which is (be verb)plated with silver lining and is(be verb) a gas and electric combo. Cooking relieved my mother’s stress. My mother has(be verb) a passion for baking, so she installed a six rack oven underneath the stove top. After stepping through the kitchen you enter the dining room. It has yellow painted walls and has a twenty foot table with fourteen chairs on each side and two at the top. During Thanksgiving the most common sound is the constant screaming in Chinese. My mother would argue with her sister about how each of them is cooking the chicken incorrectly and how they are each using the wrong spices and herbs. Last year the burnt turkey didn't taste good because my mother seasoned it with lemon juice.
