Social Media Takeover
Social media has become one of America’s main lines of communication not only for teenagers, but also for adults. We as a community must acknowledge the fact that social media may be helping us in some areas; however, it is truly destroying us in other parts. While social media provides numerous advantages such as easy access and an efficient way of communicating, it forces people to waste incredible amounts of time on useless entertainment, and damages people’s social skills, verbal skills, and most importantly distorts people’s sense of reality.
Social media has revolutionized how people are able to entertain one another. People are always worried about

Social media allows people to misspell word freely and also allows people to use incorrect grammar. With people using social sites more than they write formal documents such as emails to employers, resumes, and letters their bad grammar techniques and constant misspelling of words transfer over to their formal documents. People have acquired horrible speech habits and etiquette from the bad grammar and verbal skills that come from constantly misspelling words and incorrect sentence structure used on social sites. People that are constantly on social media are beginning to talk like they write. An example would be “aint that right,” when someone asks another person something that they agree on. Social media is ruining people’s social skills because they are becoming more comfortable with talking to someone through a social site than they are with talking face to face. “The study… found that even when there is an opportunity to see people face-to-face, on weekends for example, up to 11% of adults still prefer to stay at home and communicate on their devices instead” (Fowlkes). This is not a good habit to develop because it will affect people’s daily lives, such as when they are trying to meet and impress someone or when they are at a job
Furthermore, it is thought that social media lets humans connect with others and have more friends than those in the real world. However, this is not always true. People worry about their online worlds and whether people will like them. Online, people are more judgemental than real world friends, which can lead to a low self-esteem. The article “YES: Connecting Virtually Isn’t Like Real-World Bonding” by Larry Rosen states that “...our constant need to check comes from anxiety…” Obviously, technology has a negative effect on people as far as lower self-esteem and
It has been forty three years since the first email was delivered; since then, our ways of communication have changed. We are now living in a society in which almost everybody is provided with a piece of communicating technology to keep in touch with each other. Social networking service, a platform for people who want to share interests, activities, backgrounds or real-life connections over the Internet, has deeply affected our life in many ways. The debate as to whether the influences are positive or negative has been a controversial issue since 72 percent of all internet users are now active on social media (22 Social Media Facts and Statistics You Should Know in 2014). So, how does social media affect our lives? Speaking for myself, I think social networking is slowly damaging our everyday life by crawling into our personal life, turning into a deadly weapon, and becoming a dangerous addiction and distraction.
Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
As you can see, in a society where interacting and over-sharing online is a trend, you probably speak to friends and family through electronic devices and social media than face-to-face. Many surveys have been addressed that one in four college students and adults would spend more time socializing online than they do in person. Whenever you attend a classroom, party or club, you can see that there is someone with their head down looking at the phone, ignore the group and reject to speak in a conversation. Moreover, if they have free time in the weekend to hang out, they tend to want to stay at home and chat or text through social media. As a result, the relationships is deteriorating,
When was the last time you talked to your friends in person, not over text messages, Facebook or Twitter? In order to answer the question you would have to think about it first. It is not secret that social media is something that is controlling our lives everyday. In fact, it is something that comes natural to society to communicate with others through a screen. Whether it is a computer screen or phone screen, this screen is taking over our lives. In fact, according to www.pewinternet.org , “81% of online teens use some kind of social media. As a teenager, I go on Social media everyday, it is something that comes natural to my everyday life. Also, it is an easy way for me to communicate with family and friends. Bizjournals.com states that, “Smartphone users check Facebook 's website 13.8 times a day, on average, and spend a total of half an hour each day on the social network on their phones”. Social media is taking over our everyday lives, without us realizing it. What if social media did not exist, how would people
business and the list keeps going. However; Scrolling down your news feed allows you to interact with peoples opinion and feelings not actual information.
The Importance of Social Media to a Mangers Job Social Media arrangement of electronic communication through which users make digital groups to share ideas, information, personal use and other things. Social media is very important for a company in this days of times. Social media is the new way to promote your company and get feedback on issues instantly so you can solve an issue quickly. Since the introduction of internet in the 1990’s, its importance worldwide has always grown tremendously. From the first email send to the domination of Facebook and other social media websites, it has changed the way people communicate. The use of social media is increasingly becoming the preferred way people share their daily activities, ideas and knowledge and that is why it’s the most talked about and used platform. Many companies are encouraging their employees to use various social media platforms and engage online for office productivity, posting opinions and presenting their thoughts. Corporations realize that Social Media tools such as blogs, forums, podcasts and social networking websites makes internal communications faster, more convenient and effective. Social media is a low-cost, high-impact tool that can also complement and reinforce your existing communications efforts. It gives a new dimension to internal communications in many ways: building relationship with employees, leads to diverse thinking and innovation, and reduce costs and Increase Productivity. Social media has impacted positively in the business world, but its downside has impacted teens in high school, with issues such as cyber bullying, and people using Facebook and twitter to get over their boredom and research proving that the more they use social networking websites the more envious they feel.
The development of technology has led up to different ways of social interaction with one another. The launch of the computer was a huge impact in American history. It wasn’t only the computer that launched but also the Internet. Which brought different ways that people could interact with one another though Email and social networks (Lutfala). Some of the more popular social networks used are twitter and Facebook. People may become addicted to tweeting and posting up a tweet or status, this may become a priority to some people. These network accounts allow people to interact with friends and family from all over the world whenever they want with no cost, however people are so addicted to these social network they forget the way people are supposed to interact and that’s by talking in person. Online, children and teenagers can have hundreds of “friends” without having to leave their home or open their mouths. Although is may seem easier for people to send a quick text, email or instant message it destroys the meaning of being able to interact with our friends and family and actually get to see each other face to face.
While with the constant use of these social technologies, less people are communicating in person, this type of technology might be doing more harm than good because with the rise of websites such as Facebook, social networking may be on the verge of replacing traditional personal interactions for the next generation. Social networks were created for the sole purpose of helping individuals communicate. There are many other reasons that these technologies are used, but communication is still the number one. It is not only changing how we communicate, but how we interact with each other in daily life.
Social media has caused a substantial decrease in face-to-face time, stopped people from working effectively, and has caused an increase in bullying. Social media as defined by dictionary.com is “websites and other online means of communication that are used by large groups of people to share information and to develop social and professional contacts”. People use social media for networking, education, and entertainment. Some of today’s most popular social media sites include Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Vine, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Facebook is used as a basic social media site.
We live in a world that has become addicted and dedicated toward social media and it is driving America’s youth into the ground. Teenagers and adults are so wrapped up in social media that is runs their lives every day. Constantly people are checking their phones for the latest on social networks. They have to see pictures, tweets, statuses, comments, likes, and the list goes on and on. Social media is becoming the focus point in the modern American society that it is beginning to control people’s social skills, communication skills, and their livelihood.
Even though people have different opinions on whether social media has a positive or negative impact on society, it can be said that social media has a positive effect on society as a whole because it lets people communicate with each other easily, it has been said to improve education among children, and has helped improve the economy in the world. One of the main reasons why social media has positively affected our society is because of how it has made communicating with people much easier. “Today, four out of five active internet users maintain at least one social media profile” (Moe, 3). Using these websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and etc., people talk about everything with anyone from what they are planning to do, to what they are eating and much more (Moe, 24). We can also send private messages to other users of these websites about personal matters that you just want to discuss with them.
“According to Cornell University's Steven Strogatz, social media sites can make it more difficult for us to distinguish between the meaningful relationships we foster in the real world, and the numerous casual relationships formed through social media” (Jung, 2016). It is not a shocking fact when you notice that it requires much less energy to just sit around and text. It sounds innocent at first but when you realize that people are now spending hours and hours on their screens some concern
The social media is one of the most common means of communication and pretty much of knowing anything and everything around the world these days, and it is growing very rapidly. It changes and affects each person in a different way, or ways. Some may argue that social media has a bad influence on children and young adults, while most people see that the social media has a more positive effect on them than a negative one. Social media is basically the new way of keeping in touch with everything and everyone, and of even strengthening bonds between each other. This essay will argue that social media has improved communication between people, and has also improved the means of communication between them.
