Would you rather have rowdy kids to watch around the clock or be able to have some time to catch up on some things you haven't been able to do? Some people believe screen time for kids isn't benefical and leads to less creativity, depression, and obesity. All of these cons can be be fixed. I believe screen time has many benefits for kids. From child educational sites and TV shows, getting familiar with technology, and having some free time for yourself.
One of the primary reasons I believe screen time is beneifical for kids is because of modern TV shows and games. Nowadays, there are so many options for kids to learn on screens from cell phones, TV's, tablets, and computers. Many apps and games are now developed for kids to make learning
Kidwatching shows many different things when it comes to collecting data on how a student or student’s learn over a period of time. When doing kidwatching observations, it is important to monitor everything that could have an influence on a student’s performance. Different things such as resources, environments, interactions, etc. are a few things that can affect a student when it comes to learning. Being able to kidwatch at Killian Elementary, I’ve been able to collect a great deal of data when it comes to seeing a student as a scientist. This opportunity has allowed me to look at teaching science many different ways that can show how much students are interested and how much he/she understands.
Are teachers enforcing discipline mechanisms in a healthy way for children? Researchers would answer no to this question because of one major factor: removing recess from a child’s school day. In Jessica Lahey’s article, “Students Who Lose Recess Are the Ones Who Need It Most”, she states that “schools continue to take away recess privileges as a penalty for academic or behavioral transgressions”. Many teachers follow this procedure because they assume that they are teaching the child how to act with appropriate behaviors. However, it is a proven fact that eliminating a student’s recess results in a negative outcome. Therefore, recess should not be removed from a child’s school day because this recreation plays a role in their physical health,
Television, or screen time, has become a large part of today's society. Whether it's by way of smart-phones, a television, a computer, or a tablet, screen time has negative effects on the cognitive ability of children and adolescents. It has even been proven that it can lead to Alzheimer's disease when a person, in the age range of 20-60 years old, views an hour more than the recommended amount of screen time a day (Sigman 14). In children, the amount of screen time viewed has a relationship with the likelihood of developing a deficit in his attention span; the longer a child views screen time, the more likely he is to be diagnosed with an attention disorder. Screen time, or television, can cause attention disorders and other problem with cognitive abilities in children and adolescents that effect the education they can comprehend.
Better jobs, less drug abuse and, fewer arrests are among advent ages found in a study that tracked more than 1,000 low income, mostly black chicago kids for up to 25 years (study shows). Preschool should be available for all children. Preschool helps kids educationally, and emotionally, but is too expensive for families.
Television is a distraction for children and can hurt their cognitive abilities if they watch too much because it is non interactive. In the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity Helena Duch and colleagues mentioned that the American Academy of Pediatrics advises, “parents avoid exposing children 2 and under to screen media, a nationally representative survey found that 68% of children under the age of 2 use screen media in a typical day, and that average screen time was 2.05 hours per day” (Dutch et al 2). Children live in a world full of screens, ranging from iPhones, TVs, to tablets and computers. Drastic brain development occurs during the ages of 1-3 and exposing them to too much screen time of any kind can have negative effects on them (Hopkins 27). Putting them in front of a screen also steals away from times they could be talking, playing, and interacting with their surroundings. Pediatrician Dr. Michael Rich claims that shows d...
Play supports children’s physical development as when they are playing they are being active and exercising their body. It is important that children develop strength and stamina from a young age and through
A child's overall development can be mental, physical, and emotional. In the article “Give me that old time recess”, the author discussed the negative consequences of children losing playtime. “In a growing number of studies, diminished opportunities for outdoor playtime have been linked with school difficulties, increased childhood anxiety, disconnection from nature, attention deficit disorder, and the epidemic of childhood obesity” (Gross-Loh Par 4). This quote is important because children today are suffering more from obesity, and attention deficit disorders due to the decrease of structured play. Children are becoming less active due to the the dependency on technology. The increase in obesity is the result of the rise in children having smart phones. With children having smartphones, they lose the desire to play outside. The lack of play causes an increase in depression among children and teens. (Tanner Par 10). This is important because today’s generation has a large dependency on technology “Sixty-five percent of children under eight years old watch television daily. On average, they spend about an hour and a half (100 minutes to be exact) watching TV every day.” (Conrad Par 3). Childrens dependency on technology is related to depression because many children have a hard time communicating and socializing with other children due to technology ruining children's interpersonal skills (Bindley Par 4).
Since the beginning of time, fathers have had a profound effect on their child’s development. Over the years, the norm for traditional family dynamics of having a father figure in the household has changed drastically, and so did the roles of the parents. It is not as common as it used to be to have a father or father figure in the home. In this day and age, women are more likely to raise children on their own and gain independence without the male assistance due to various reasons. The most significant learning experience and development of a person’s life takes place in their earlier years when they were children. There are many advantages when there is a mother and father combined in a
While I see nothing wrong with screen time, I do believe that to much is a bad thing. With my children, I limit screen time to 1-2 hours a day for my 2 year old son and 2-4 hours for my 6 year old daughter. I didn't want to cut out screen time all together because I personally think it is a good way for kids to learn in some parts. My daughter has had bad social anxiety for many years now that has hindered her from making friends. I decided that it was time to do something about it. So when a friend of mine would decide a play date, we would let the two get online and talk it out before. I had noticed such a big difference in my daughters social abilities. With that being said, at the time i had not set a screen limit yet. She had developed

Rather than knocking their suggestion, use questions to bring usage time down to a range where you feel comfortable. Your kiddos need to know your family’s general stance towards screen time. 2. Realize that sometimes it rains. When we create strict limits with anything (dieting, exercise routines, meal planning), life tends to get in the way.
In this essay, I will be talking about the negative, and possitive factors of screen time, as weel as giving you my personal oppinoin on how screen time can effect a child. Ive have always heard as a kid growing up in the late 90's and early 2000's, that watching to much TV is bad for you, that being said it has never effected me in a negative way. I do not watch TV nearly as much as I did before, but I have a 1 year old doughter who watches her favorate movies every day. My doughter is very bright, and is able to tell me, at a year old, what exactly she wants at all times. My wife grew up on completely opposite, she grew up not knowing screen time at all.

Children’s development in all aspects are influenced by genetic composition (Nature) and the environment in which they grow (Nurture). They are influenced by all adults in which they come into significant contact. Smiling at someone unfamiliar or speaking to a stranger is less likely to have a lasting impact on the child or their development. However, parents and immediate family have the most impact on a child’s development. A family is defined as at least one adult and one child who live together and in which the adult is control of the child’s life and behavior as well as demonstrates responsible care for the child (McDevitt & Ormand, 2013). Parents are the primary educators and caregivers,
Many people believe that too much time spent watching television or playing computer or video games can be detrimental to children’s development. However, video games can also be beneficial. Gaming, in moderation, helps improve cognitive skills, such as attention, vision, and multitasking.
