The Fault in Our Cells - Skin Cancer
There are many types of cancer in this world, and every day someone is diagnosed with it. People go through tough battles to overcome cancer, but not all succeed. The main focus right now is skin cancer. Skin cancer is just as serious as any other cancer and it is just as harmful. Cancer isn’t something to be joked around with, it takes lives twenty-four seven.
Cancer is a disease that no one sees coming. It if the rapid replication of mutated cells in a part of your body. When something goes wrong in the copying of DNA, which is a part of cell replication, then mutated cells will form. Cancer cells do not die like ordinary cells and they can also enter or spread different tissues unlike healthy cells. If you look at the process of which cells duplicate, it goes quite slow. If you look at cancer cells duplicating, it is ten times faster than normal. That’s why you have to act quickly to treat the cancer cause it will spread like a wildfire. The type of cancer that was researched and is the main topic right now is skin cancer. There are many causes and it is easy to prevent the disease.

Skin cancer causes are pretty common and simple.
UV rays from the sun can cause skin cancer, even going to the tanning bed can be a cause. The rays are very harmful to your skin and some people don’t take it seriously. There are some signs as well. For example, you can get rashes on your skin that don’t go away or it could be huge freckles anywhere on your body. There are not many symptoms for skin cancer, but if you do have it, you can get something that looks like an infection on your skin. It could be a hole or just look like a big wound. It’s quite disturbing and no one really wants something like that on there
skin. An easy prevention for skin cancer is wear your sunscreen! It takes seconds to apply it to your skin before you go outside. You don’t only apply some before you go swimming, if you are outside period, you should have some on. You should put it on your arms, legs, face, your whole torso, and your ears. It might be weird to put it on your ears, but have you ever seen someone with very red ears in the summer? That’s because they are sunburnt which can led to skin cancer. Another prevention is do not go to the tanning bed. If you don’t know what a tanning bed is, it’s a shop where you can pay to lay in the machine full of lights that tan you. Getting tans is great, just not like that. It’s a huge cause and you can easily stop it by not going. The main treatment for skin cancer would be chemotherapy. That is the main treatment for all cancers really. An alternative treatment, depending on how severe your skin cancer is, you can go get surgery to get the cancer cut out as well. There has been a lot of research being done on this topic. Not any breakthroughs though. Every day there is someone working on the cancer and so far nothing spectacular has happened. The only thing that has been found out is how serious this can be and different ways of treating this. It’s serious and it can’t be ignored anymore. Works Cited Page "What Is Cancer?" Most animals are susceptible to the development of cancer at some stage of their life. Among all types of cancer, squamous cell carcinoma is one of the skin cancer that commonly affects domestic animals. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma is a type of cancer caused by neoplasms arising from the squamous epithelium of an animal regardless of species. However, this essay will only focus on this condition among felines since my chosen species is a white cat called Rosie. There are several forms of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma among felines, which are known as solar keratosis and multicentric squamous cell carcinoma in situ, sometimes known as Bowen’s-like disease, but in this case, Rosie is diagnosed with
A regular skin exam (every 6-8 weeks) will help in the melanoma dectection process. Look for irregular skin growths and have the growth examined by a health care provider if the growth promotes cause for alarm.
Cancer is the term used to describe a group of diseases consisting of hundreds of ailments and although there exists so many different types of cancer, they all begin in a similar way. The body is made up of over a trillion cells, and cancer is the uncontrolled growth of malfunctioning cells in the body (Dawson, 1996). “Normal body cells grow, divide, and die in an orderly fashion. During the early years of a person’s life, normal cells divide faster to allow the person to grow. After the person becomes an adult, most cells divide only to replace worn-out or dying cells or to repair injuries” (American Cancer Society, 2012).
It is very important to use a sunscreen every day and especially when out in the sun. Sunscreens protect the skin from the harmful rays put off by the sun. Using sunscreen will help prevent skin cancer. It is very important to understand the strength needed for the amount of time in the sun. Sunscreens come in different strengths and there are many different brands of sunscreen available. Sunscreen also varies in prices. Some are very cheap and some are very expensive. It is up to the individual to decide which to use. A dermatologist can recommend what is best for the individual needs. As we all know, we have to be careful staying in the sun too much. We often get sunburned if we do not use sunscreen, but most people think it will heal and it’s not that big of a deal. This is also the case for tanning beds. The people who say things like “it’s not a big deal” are definitely wrong. He or she could be harming their skin and could end up with serious problems, like skin cancer. If a person gets too burned too often then he or she may develop skin cancer and end up having to have skin cancer surgery. A dermatologist will check the skin and if there are any suspicious places, they will perform a biopsy to see if it is a skin cancer. If it does turn out to be a skin cancer, the dermatologist will then determine the best course of treatment. Some treatments are by

Skin cancer is a disease in which malignant cancer cells are found in the outer layer of the human skin. This particular cancer is one of the most common cancers among the U.S. population, affecting and spreading over more than one million people a year. “Skin cancer is categorized into two separate groups being; malignant melanomas and non-melanoma cancers.” (Adam, 2013)
Basal and squamous cell skin cancer are the most common forms of skin cancer. Multiple studies have shown that these cancers are almost always connected to large amounts of sun exposure. This can come from things like outdoor sports, performing something outdoors with little coverage from clothing, and getting multiple severe sunburns. You can see signs of skin cancer inside and outside of your body. Rough, thick, dry skin patches are common symptoms, but things

Skin cancer is a disease where cancer (malignant) cells are found on the outer layer of the skin (epidermis). The three types of cells found in the epidermis are squamous cells, basal cells, and melanocytes. These cells in time grow to be cancerous. Thus, the three types of skin cancers are squamous cell, basal cell, and melanoma. Melanoma is the most deadliest and destructive type of cancer. (“Skin Cancer” infotrac.com) The number of people with melanoma has risen in Scotland from 3.5 in 1979 to 10.6 per 100,000 in 1998 for men and 7.0 to 13.1 for women. (Miller 945) Squamous cell and Basal cell skin cancer can kill up to 2,200 people a year in the United States. (Sommerfield SIRS.com) Basal cell, being the most common type of skin cancer, is the cancer that about 75 percent of the people have. (“Skin Cancer “ infotrac.com) Melanoma is mostly seen in older men but ever since tanning came in during the 1970’s, it has increased in women 60 percent around the ages 15-29 over the past three decades.(Sommerfield SIRS.com) “And basal cell and squamous cell cancers are increasing at a rate of about 5 percent per year”(Sommerfield SIRS.com).
Cancer is a disease that affects human somatic cells. It causes the cells to divide uncontrollably and form masses known as tumors. There are two different types of cancer tumors. Some tumors are benign and other tumors are malignant. Benign tumors look similar to the tissues that they came from and develop slowly. The tumor remains in the same area that the tumor originated in. Malignant tumors are formed from cells that do not resemble the tissue that they came from. They vary in shape and size. This enables pieces of the tumor to break off and spread to other places in the body. Over the past few decades cancer has become a very prominent disease. There are many different types of cancer and many different causes for the the disease. Most cancers are because of a genetic mutation. The most common type occur when a cell is dividing. Proto-oncogenes, which are alleles in a normal cells, mutate to form oncogenes. These oncogenes cause cancer because they do not allow the cells to self destruct or become epistatic. There have been several research projects which have been testing epistatis.
I love a sunny day. Perhaps because I was born on an Island. The warmth of the sun on my skin feels wonderful to me, and I rather be hot than cold. Any day! My skin has been exposed to the sun rays since a very early age. The only thing required to go to the beach when I was growing up was going! We never wore sunscreen or protective clothing. If anything, in the teenage years when I became concerned about my appearance, I would lather myself up with baby oil to intensify a tan. Many times I mixed it with carrots to stain the skin. I am certain of not being the only one looking at magazines and television with images of models and celebrities looking gorgeous with their golden-brown tans. What I did not know at the time is that I was not only
