The columbine high school shooting April 20,1999, 17 year old Dylan Klebold, and 18 year old Eric Harris killed 12 students and 1 teacher. Both ended up killing themselves at 12:08pm with shot wounds in the head. 23 were wounded 13 killed and shooters committed suicide all in one day.December 14 Adam Lanza, 20 year old killed his mother Nancy Lanza. That went to sandy elementary. 20 students 6 through the age of 7 was killed plus 6 adults than shooter kills himself that's a total of 27 dead. A taser, pepper spray, or gun something to keep around to save or even just to hold off the unwanted guest till the cops arrive to the scene. Even if it was a bat it would work. There are too many deaths happening because of school shootings it's ridiculously stupid. If only all schools were regulated to have a way to protect the kids and teacher in each classroom we would not have to worry about any of this nonsense going on in the world. Every teacher should be trained in armes in case of a emergens like shooting and should also be trained in some of the medical field to help with bad injuries. Teacher while going through school should be trained in how to use a gun use, taser handling, and maybe even some fighting hand to hand combat. Most of us learned when we were very young that we should not judge by appearances. But, in the aftermath of massacres in schools everywhere, a sane person has to take seriously what the material world shows - and pass judgment. After all, a lack of judgment and subsequent action may lead to further youth violence.
In the last ten years there have been eighteen school shootings in the United States. Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, High Schools, and Universities are all included. From these eighteen shootings there were one hundred and one students and faculty members killed, the majority being students. In the average classroom, there is at least fifteen students to one teacher. One adult is tasked with insuring the safety of fifteen to thirty students. How are teachers expected to accomplish this in the event of a shooting? There are safety codes and drills practiced such as code red, code blue, and evacuation drills that can help keep students safe. In the event of a code red students are to gather in the corner of the room farthest from the door; teachers turn off the lights and lock the door. Some teachers do what they can and barricade the classroom door with desks or filing cabinets… but hiding in a dark room isn 't enough. A code red is called out when an intruder is in the building. The shooter would hear the code red being announced and know the students are hiding, especially if the shooter is a member of the school, then they know exactly what the procedure is. A barricaded door might deter a shooter, but they will most likely move on to the next class-- or they decide that the barricade isn’t going to stop them. In the high school I attend the vast majority of classroom doors are mostly glass; in theory a school shooter can shoot right through without even having to enter the classroom. The best way to protect students is to have a more effective defense against threats.
Throughout the years of education, kids go to school to get an education, to hang with friends, to get excise, and many other things. America should have armed officers in in public schools. Since kids are spending a majority of their time throughout the day and year at school, they should feel safe in that environment. That can soon change with school security falling behind with this current growth of school shooting. Schools shootings have begun occurring more often in the United States from elementary schools all the way up to colleges. How should school systems fix this problem? One solution that could be the most effective is having multiple armed officers in schools. Let’s begin with some major school shootings that were lacking armed officers, when the resource officer successfully stopped a potential shooting, and reasons why we should have an armed officer.
It is a sad time in American history when one can easily recount recent school shootings in their own area. This ease stems from a sharp increase in the number of firearms brought into elementary and middle schools across the country, with an intense focus on the issue beginning after the shooting of 20 children from Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. Most school shooters are male, white, and often upper middle class. They are also more, often than not, under some type of mental stress that is causing them to create this type of violence in our communities. Students to deserve to have their lives out to rest knowing something could have been done that’s why we need to have these teachers armed. This is a cold world if someone enters a school with a weapon teachers need to have their weapon ready too for the sack of their children. A school is a fun place to learn but to also keep safe. This sounds dangerous, having guns in schools, but it actually provides more security. Most SRO’s have guns, which they are trained to use. Kenneth S. Trump, president of National School Safety and Security Services, says, “School districts considering arming teachers and school staff with guns would take on significant responsibility and potential liabilities that I firmly believe are beyond the expertise, knowledge-base, experience, and professional capabilities of most school boards and administrators” (Arming Teachers and School Staff- School Security”). Trump does not believe that teachers should be allowed to arm guns inside the school because of a liability issue. Nonetheless, most houses have guns in them, but when they are put up in a safe, or somewhere children cannot get to, the house is still a safe place. Therefore, if the school did allow the teachers to obtain a gun somewhere in the classroom, intruders would be less likely to show up because they know it is the whole school against the single, or few intruders. Safety in Schools For the safety of students and teachers we need to be educated on the kind of catastrophes that could possibly occur in our schools. Recently, there have been many disastrous inconveniences involving schools and weapons. We immediately think to increase safety in our schools by fool-proofing our lockdown drills, and even considered letting our teachers carry weapons. Should teachers have firearms? It definitely is. My sister's school has two NYPD School Safety officers with no firearms, so I think in case of an emergency that they will be able to prevent it? No. These children that keep getting harmed are the future so why not put 110% into protecting them?
