Rock and roll, one of the most popular genres of American music, was started in the 1950s. Through the years many significant artists have emerged from rock and roll. In order to honor rock and roll legends , the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was opened in 1995. The building is full of memorabilia and diverse genres of music. Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey), part of the British invasion and pop genre, was honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. Starr is known for his easy-going personality and solid rhythm on the drums. Ringo Starr is an important musician that was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because he was and still is a talented drummer, singer, songwriter, and movie star.
Richard Starkey was born on July 7, 1940, in Liverpool, England. Richard grew up in a poor working class section of Liverpool and never got to know his father because he left the family when he was three. Richard’s step father supported Richard’s love for music, although Richard’s stepfather couldn’t keep him in school. Richard started his music career off playing in a band that used common objects instead of instruments, otherwise know as a skiffle band. During this time Richard got his nickname, Ringo Starr, from all the rings he wore. Later on Ringo’s stepfather bought him a drum kit. Then after learning how to play the drums Starr joined the local band Rory Storm and the Hurricanes (biography.com). Ringo started off local, then when to the big time and joined the Beatles. In 1961, Ringo Starr met Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison on tour. A year later the group kicked Pete Best, the drummer, out of the current band and replaced him with Ringo Starr. Soon after the new band brained stormed names and since John was a fan of Buddy Holly and the Crickets they thought of insect names, and that was when John came up with the Beetles, which they then changed to the Beatles. The same year the group recorded their first U.K. single, “Love Me Do” which reached #21 on the charts (rockhall.com). Next, in 1963 the Beatles first album, Please Please Me, was released. Starr rarely got a lead vocal, unless it was a country song. Although Starr did get the lead on the popular songs, “Yellow Submarine’ and “With a Little Help from my Friends”. After rising to fame in England the Beatles crossed the Atlantic Ocean to America in 1964. In America the Beatles were climbing the charts. Starr even inspired the name for the Beatles third album, A Hards Days Night, many songs, and even their first movie called A Hards Days Night which was on the big screens in 1964. But the Beatles success was soon over when the band stopped touring in 1966 (biography.com). After the band broke up Ringo Starr pursued his solo career. Ringo Starr started his solo career off after the fall out of the Beatles in 1970. Starr’s first album he released was Sentimental Journey. He followed it with Beaucoups of Blues in 1973, which was a country collaboration. That same year Ringo Starr won a Grammy for Album of the Year, though Starr’s first hit album was Ringo which stayed on the charts for 37 weeks (rockhall.com). After Starr’s album Ringo his songs went on a downward spiral, with only one Top 30 hit and “ A Dose of Rock ‘n’ Roll” doing nothing for him. Starr never left the spotlight though, he appeared in Paul McCartney's album, two television shows, and George Harrison’s video. Ringo Starr went back to recording hits in the 1990s. The relase of Time Takes Time in 1992 brought Starr his best reviews in years (rollingstone.com). Then in 1998 Ringo Starr had his most successful album in 20 years, called Vertical Man (biography.com). In 1999 Starr released his first Christmas album, I Wanna Be Santa Claus (rollingstone.com). Also in 1999, Liverpool 8 was released and every song on the album was co-written by Starr to show his songwriting abilities (biography.com). The next step for Starr was touring with his new All-Starr Band (rollingstone.com 5). The band didn’t stop his solo career, in 2013 Starr put together Photograph which featured many never before seen pictures of the Beatles. Starr put the album together to tell the story of his life with the Beatles (biography.com 3). Even with all of Starr’s albums and songs, he always made time for the big screens. Ringo Starr started of his movie career appearing in three Beatles movies. Theses movies were named A Hard Day’s Night (1964), Help! (1965), and Magical Mystery Tour (1967). Starr’s first solo movie was Candy playing a mexican gardener. Following the movie Candy Starr started in The Magic Christian in 1969, and That’ll Be the Day in 1970. In 1973 Ringo Starr directed his first movie, Born to Boogie. The movie is a documentary about the band T. Rex (biography.com 2). Other movies Starr appeared in were Stardust, Caveman, Son of Dracula, The Last Waltz, and 200 Motels. Ringo Starr also narrated children’s shows in both England and the United States. Along with a musical drama with Paul McCartney (biography.com 3). A talented drummer, singer, songwriter, movie star, and an important musician Ringo Starr was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

It was no coincidence that rock ‘n’ roll and the civil rights movement started at the same time. The genre originated from African American music and was greatly discriminated against. Traditional white Americans would target anything bad about it. But as the teenager demographic of the 1950s started increasing the sales of the music, the genre started gaining more popularity. It was the style of Elvis Presley and his new voice that made girls weak in the knees and boys want to be him. Artists such as Presley had enough influence to change the view of their devoted fans on civil rights issues. Soon as protest songs and rock ‘n’ roll became more popular and influential, it began a gap between the young adult generation and their parents which led to the rebellion of the civil rights movement. Through these factors rock ‘n’ roll influenced a great deal over the civil rights movement.
Many people and many styles of music influenced Rock and Roll. The styles included Blues, Jazz, Gospel, Bluegrass, Boogie-Woogie, and Rockabilly. Each was a major factor into the introduction of a new style of music called Rock ‘N’ Roll.
Rock and Roll was the start of a new revolution in America. It introduced the world to many of the famous artists that continue to be a part of our lives today. "Artists who became popular in the 1950s such as Elvis, began to pave the way for others such as Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly" (The History of Rock 'n' Roll until 1960). With the introduction of rock 'n' roll, there came many new changes to the lives of many Americans. Rock and Roll was a major contributor for the change in teens' behavior in the 1950s because it encouraged new freedoms for teenagers, encouraged new fads among teenagers, and caused a generation gap.
I think classic rock is the best because it is true classic music. It is what started all rock of today. Classic rock is better than most rock days because it sounded way better back when the classic rock bands were popular. Today the “classic rock” is not as good as it was. Bands like Nirvana, The Beach Boys, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Queen, Pink Floyd, etc, are the bands that started it all.

Psychedelic rock declined in popularity after the deaths of Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison and the breakup of The Beatles. Disco emerged for a while to share the prominence, but Rock N’ Roll continued to evolve.
To many Rock musicians who have helped popularize Rock in the more modern era, they describe rock as having a blues genre mixed in it. It is characterized as music with heavy beats and melodies when it first started to come up. It is also described as Black Rhythm, blues, and country white music. These bands usually consist of a guitar, drums, bass, and keyboard or their instrument that gives Rock it’s uniqueness. At the age of 4, Lennon’s parents separated and he ended up living with his Aunt mimi. Lennon was devastated when Julia was fatally struck by a car driven by a police officer in July 1958.
