Pearl Harbor is an American naval base located on Oahu, Hawaii. It was at this location that the Japanese Empire bombed the base and provoked the United States into joining World War II.1 America cut off Japan’s resources to limit their conquering of Asia, Japan was furious at the United States and attacked their main naval base, Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941 hoping the U.S. would no longer be able to continue the embargo of their resources, America acted in the opposite way expected and declared war on Japan. The Japanese never intended to invade or conquer America, their only goal was to become strong enough to impose a severe threat towards the United States, so that the U.S. could not discontinue Japan from conquering Asia and later on the world. The United States was the only major force because the other major countries were occupied with the world war that kept them from interfering with Japans military action. America cut off Japans source of supplies and as an effect their military weakened significantly. This action gave Japan the rage they needed to approve the plan and attack Pearl Harbor.2 The British broke in to Japan’s diplomatic code before the attack and gave the information to America, The U.S. knew from this intel that an attack from the Japanese Empire was liable to occur but never expected anything so drastic or soon because they did not think Japan had a strong enough military to impose a big enough threat to America.3 Japan attacked on December 7, 1941, at 6:45 a.m. most soldiers were still asleep. Two privates named George Elliot and Joseph Lockard, were operating a mobile radar on the north coast of Oahu the day of the attack. In hopes to end the war America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and then Nagasaki Japan, giving the Japanese Empire no choice but to surrender.12 In conclusion the Japanese Empire bombed Pearl Harbor, the main military base, on December 7, 1941. Japan attacked the United States because America was the only country making a serious effort to stop Japan from conquering parts of Asia. The Japanese assumed that if the United States had no warships to block Japan’s progress in defeating Asia, they would succeed in the conquering. The U.S. responded in the opposite way Japan had expected and declared war on Japan which involved them in World War II. The war ended when America dropped two atomic bombs on Japan.
