Tonight on the Rio Olympics everyone was excited to see Michael Phelps. The thing that everyone noticed his body had these big red dots all over it and nobody knew what they were from or why he had them. Michael didn't even act like anything was different. USA Today shared the details of what was all over Michael Phelps tonight. Fans went to social networks right away trying to figure out what was going on with him.
Tonight Michael Phelps was part of the U.S. men's 4x100 freestyle relay. Everyone noticed these red dots that covered his entire body. Some of them were more noticeable than others, but they could not be missed. They are actually from a technique called cupping. This is done as a recovery method for athletes. They actually put suction cups on you that pull the skin back and loosen muscles and tendons. This is different from a massage where you are pressed on to get relief.
In the picture above, you can see how cupping works. Phelps must feel like this works for him because this was 11 months ago and he obviously hasn't stopped doing it. This is not something that everyone does, though, so when Phelps was seen with this all over him tonight, fans went crazy wondering if he was okay or what was going on.

The site says, "Cupping involves placing glass, bamboo or plastic jars on the skin and creating a vacuum by suctioning out the air. The underlying tissue is raised, or sucked, partway into the cup. The purpose of cupping is to enhance circulation, help relieve pain, remove "heat" and pull out the toxins that linger in your body's tissues." It goes on to explain that cupping feels relaxing and smoothing. It is done on the back and also on other fleshy parts of the body. Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson, Lady Gaga and Victoria Beckham have all been seen with cupping marks on them just like those that were on Michael
Jesse Owens was the best track athlete at the 1936 Olympics due to his four gold medals in the 400 meter relay , the 100 meter dash , the 200 meter dash and the running board jump or the long jump. Jesse became a lifetime role model just from one summer olympic games. Owens just demonstrated what every young black kid in America wanted to become when the arose to his type of greatness. Jesses' to becoming the best at this olympic games was a pretty tough road. He was pushed back because of the color of his skin , now there was no way in hell the he used this as any type of an excuse when he didn't come in first.
Cellulitis is an inflammation of subcutaneous connective tissue. We think he got Cellulitis when he was living in Tanzania. Some symptoms of Cellulitis are swelling of the skin, pain and tenderness, swollen glands, and redness of affected area. Cellulitis mostly occurs in the legs. Cellulitis usually only affects one side of the body and the patient only had an infection on his right leg and foot. This explains why the skin was infected on his right leg. Cellulitis is treated very quickly with antibiotic therapy. Cellulitis can also come from edema, which explains why the patient had
Artistically, Apoxyomenos deviates from the standard Classical representation of male athletes. The majority of Classical sculptors portrayed athletes actively engaged in competition. However, this figure is gazing into the distance while removing oil and dirt from his body using a strigil (Stokstad, 165). This practice was commonly associated with athletes in ancient Greece and, thereby, communicated to the viewer that this was a piece pertaining to athletics.
It’s one of the greatest debates right now in modern time sports. Who is the greatest basketball player ever? Is it His Airness, or is it King James? The debate on whether Michael Jordan or LeBron James is the greatest basketball player ever is a prevalent topic in sports news daily. Many people believe that LeBron James is the greatest basketball player to be currently playing and also the greatest player to ever have played in the NBA. My theory, however, is that rather than LeBron James, the greatest basketball player to ever have played the game is Michael Jordan. Although I agree with the claim that LeBron James is the best current player in the NBA, I believe that he is nowhere near being considered better than Michael Jordan.
Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. When Michael was still a toddler he and his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. Michael was the fourth of five children. He had two older brothers, James Jr. and Larry, one older sister, Deloris, and one younger sister, Roslyn. Michael’s dad, James Sr. Jordan, worked for General Electric, and Michael’s mother, Deloris Jordan, who worked at The United Carolina Bank as the head teller. Michael always wanted to be a professional athlete. Once when he was nine years old he watched the United States lose to Russia in the Olympic Games in Basketball. He then told his mom that he would win a gold medal in Basketball at Olympic Games. When Michael was twelve he pitched two no hitters in the Wilmington, North Carolina Little League. His little league team went on and almost made it to the Little League World Series.

The "G.O.A.T.", is coming used term in the sports world meaning, The Greatest of All Time. In today's generation, there are several players that many average day people would consider these players on the road to becoming a Jordan type of player, potential or maybe even greater; players that may be able on road to sharing a Michael Jordan type of legacy includes Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James.
Following his success in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Jesse Owens stated that “[I] wasn’t invited to shake hands with Hitler, but I wasn’t invited to the White House to shake hands with the president either.” While Owen’s words were brushed aside at the time, this statement illustrates the color barrier that stood strong throughout Owen’s many triumphs. Often thought of as one of the best presidents of the United States, FDR fell victim to the degradation of African Americans along with everyone else. Jesse Owens was the first in a series of African Americans who transcended the color barrier for brief moments when it was to the advantage of White America in a time where African Americans were treated as objects. However, his restoration to the lowly levels of American civilization quickly returned upon his reentry to the country he represented. While subjecting himself to this continuous ridicule and embarrassment, Owens persevered as a true hero for the African American race, as optimistic people capitalized on the fame he obtained for brief stints. Therefore, acting as the first “nonwhite” hope, the eventual reputation he garnered from
After the needle is inserted into the skin, the surrounding area becomes red. This may be a result of the release of hormones into the bloodstream. In 2008, Michael Jordan made his 200th wish to Make-A-Wish foundation. The CEO of the Make-A-Wish foundation even stated that, “Michael Jordan is one of the all-time greatest athletes, but he is an even better person,” said David Williams, “He has changed the lives of hundreds of wish kids and their families for the better, and for that, we are forever grateful” (Christensen). If the CEO of Make-A-Wish can say that Michael Jordan is a better person than a basketball player, and then he must be quite the person considering how dominate of a player Jordan was.

Sports can help many at- risk youths. In order to participate in sports you need to be committed and willing to work hard. You also have to learn to respect others and accept that winning isn’t the only measure of success. Losing can build character as well. When youth participate in a sports they enjoy, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that are harmful or dangerous to themselves and others. It is for these reasons schools should strive to maintain athletic programs for their students.
Calling Mike Tyson a champion is merely a matter of opinion. "I'm a dreamer. I have to dream and reach for the stars, and if I miss a star then I grab a handful of clouds" (Mike Tyson). After successfully pursuing his boxing career and making everyone proud, Mike was able to show his dark side and give up with almost no fight (Notable Sports Figures). Mike Tyson impacted society by becoming one the greatest boxers of all time, knocking out stereotypes, and giving a realization to athletes that actions will have consequences.
The Olympic Games. The biggest international sports competition in which the worlds’ best athletes compete from all around the world to win medals for their countries. The Olympics have been a worldwide tradition since the eighth century BC, but it has hardly benefited us as a species. Every time we have the Games, our resources are abused in order to create the Olympics we desire. Huge amounts of money are used to build venues and make medals, only leading up to the countries who host the Games going into debt afterwards. There are only rare cases in which the countries earn money from hosting the Olympics, but most of the time the debt that they get themselves into take years, or even decades to pay off. You might ask yourself, why do we even host the Olympics, if it has these huge disadvantages? The answer is because we want pride for our countries, no matter how temporary it is. Knowing this, we can safely say, that the Olympic Games do not help us grow as a species.
Many life lessons can be taught through sports. Children can learn the importance of work ethic, working with others, perseverance, and the list goes on. There are studies that have shown that kids who are involved in athletics are more successful in the business world. It is only when parents turn the sporting events into an ultra-competitive requirement for their child that it can become detrimental. The lessons that sports teach kids about real life is one of the greatest benefits that can be gained from sports. Because so much can be learned through sports we need to make sure that we put focus on teaching lessons through sports rather than making it all about winning. It is a sad when parents turn a great beneficial thing into something that can be harmful for their children.
