“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” These wise words from Vince Lombardi is what motivates me when I judge a class. Livestock judging is something that is sometimes overlooked. You have a limited time to make a critical decision while being confident enough to answer questions about your decision. I first started judging my freshmen year, I was asked by my ag teacher if I wanted to do livestock judging and he told me that he thought I would be good at it. I remember my very first contest I was lost, there were approximately three hundred people and I had never been in this type of contest before. I was nervous my hands were shaking like a timber rattler, right before the contest started I got even more nervous I was so scared I was going to mess something up. It went by fast and I …show more content…
really didn’t do that bad for my first time.
I knew that after that contest that I really liked it and would love to do it in my future. Two weeks later we had our area contest and I was the second highest on my team my score improved a great amount. We didn’t advance to state which wasn’t a shocker because my teammates really didn’t care about it. The next year when the time came around my ag teacher said he was to busy to coach us and we wouldn’t have a livestock judging team and that he was going to move me to the horse judging team. I acted fine and front of him but deep down I was sick I was really looking forward to judging again. About a week later he told me that one of the girls that was on my team last year that her dad was going to coach us and take us to our competitions. We went to several more competitions than we did my freshmen year. We attended several major competitions such as: San Antonio, Houston, Tarleton State, SFA, and our Area 9 competition. My
teammates changed a little bit but not much and I had a pretty successful year but we still didn’t make it to state. Going into my junior year I started taking this extremely serious. My team changed a whole lot and it was great. We all really care and take judging serious and I learned more in 1 month than I did my whole sophomore and freshmen years. We competed in fewer competitions but we study and looked at classes at least everyday. We placed fourth at our area competition and advanced to state. This was our goal from day one and it felt great to reach it. After the state contest I knew that this was exactly what I wanted to do in college. My team and I attended a camp at Texas A&M this past summer. This helped me a lot on every aspects of judging. Just last week we competed at State Fair and as a team we placed 27 out of 175. I placed 58 out of 556 individuals. This was a huge step for us as a team to place this high in the first competiton of the year. In conclusion, livestock judging is how I am defined. I advise everyone to try something new you never know how it might affect you. It could be a huge part of your life and direct you in the future like FFA and Livestock Judging has done for me.
Equine veterinarians are animal doctors who provide medical care for horses. They examine, test and occasionally operate on or euthanize the animals. Travel to ranches and farms is often necessary, and equine vets have to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions. Being an equine veterinarian is a pleasant career choice because of great interactions with varied types of horses and their owners , the basic information, and the pros and cons of an equine veterinarian.

Animal cruelty occurs all over the world. The human race has a major effect on the natural world, especially animals. Animal cruelty is an example of how man has taken advantage of his power. Those exhibiting cruelty towards animals have been proven to have a tendency to harbor violent psychological problems. Animal cruelty occurs all over the world. Fortunately, many countries have enacted laws and penalties to stop this harsh behavior.
Current animal testing has been a contentious subject ever since it started off 150 years back. Although a lot of people discover animal testing inhumane and egoistic, it is a important factor to boost our understanding of medication and to improve our understanding of science. Animal testing, to some, is the way to ameliorating our level of living and preserving many lives, and therefore has many benefits. On the other hand, the negatives may not be passed, and scientists are constantly trying to decrease the damages with some methods they create in the process. Even so, to the dismay of numerous animal lovers in addition to those who are endeavoring for animal rights, animal testing will not be stopped every time soon because, for now, it is the most trustworthy form of testing that includes the safety of daily products we use more carefully than any other procedure.
For thousands of years scientist have been performing vivisections on animals to find information on new chemicals, drugs, and vaccines. Vivisection is when scientist perform dissections among living animals mostly for the purpose of educating and retrieving information. Experimenting on animals has become the tool that has helped us comprehend the body functions of an animal and how a disease transforms the bodily functions, but over the years it’s caused animal rights activists to question the usefulness and the sincerity of using animals for this purpose. Although animal research has been helpful in the past, it is morally wrong in the sense that experimenting on animals is not the only way to collect information. There are other alternatives
Everyone has a family member, friend, or beloved pet so sick you were not sure if they would live or die, and you find out about a new surgery procedure or medicine available to save them. Have you ever wondered where these new surgery procedures or medicines come from? When you think about all the major medical advancements over the last few decades and beyond, it has depended on animal research. As research moves into the future, we need to understand how the body works and how diseases progress. We need to find ways to treat, cure, or prevent disease and disability. The use of animal research is providing us with new technologies and medicines, which are benefiting both humans and animals in treating and extending lives.
Specific Purpose: To bring attention to the issue of dog breed discrimination through Breed Selective Legislation (BSL) and inform the audience how they can change it.
Power is authority and strength, which is any form of motive force or energy, ability to act, or control. When too much power is given, a dictatorship government can form, in which all decisions are made by one authority. In the book Animal Farm, by George Orwell the author portrays how “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely” (Lord Acton).
Animal cruelty is an issue that gets plenty of attention in the U.S. From all the commercials to the donation hotlines and tee shirts everyone in the states knows that it is a relevant issue, but what about testing on animals? It’s not as relevant or discussed as other forms of cruelty, but the truth is we kill thousands of innocent animals all for the hope that maybe a wrinkle or two may disappear. This is horribly insensitive and cruel and I really can’t believe that we could do this to such innocent and loving creatures. We have to accept that animals are not ours. Cosmetic testing on animals is not only cruel but illegal in several countries; innocent animals are constantly losing their lives for our vanity.
Every year thousands of animals are euthanized due to animal testing such as cosmetic testing, medical testing, and dissection. (A Critical Look at Animal Experimentation) (Types of Animal Testing) Some of the things we use every day such as; make up, soap, furniture polish, and varieties of cleaning supplies, are tested on rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, and other animals. (Animal Testing) Cosmetic testing is used to test a product and its ingredients, medical testing finds cures for different illnesses; and dissection is used to help high school students in science classes have a better understanding of the class or students undergoing the medical field in college. (Animal Experimentation) Animal testing is not required by law; it is only used to protect companies from consumer lawsuits, provided new research for diseases, and provide a visual learning experiment for students. (A Critical Look at Animal Experimentation) It has been proven that there are more reliable and less expensive alternatives to animal testing, such as; computer models and cell and tissue tests. Animal experimentation should be eliminated because it is an inhumane method for testing purposes.
Animal rights have unequivocally been a major concern amongst humans for some time now. Animal rights are based on the notion that non-human animals should be allowed to live freely: free from abuse and suffering, as humans are. The extreme issue amongst humans is whether or not non-human animals have the capacity for rationality to deserve such equal consideration. When examining the issue of animal rights, one may have come to question one’s psyche on whether or not animal rights are ethical.
Animal Cruelty has many forms, many reasons and most importantly many victims. It is a growing problem in today’s society. Many people may wonder why people abuse animals. The thought is simple, however the answer is a little more complex, there are three main types of animal cruelty. The three reasons are as follows: unintentional, intentional, and cruel intentions. I will discuss each one in more detail.
For centuries, animals have been known as man’s companions, a form of therapeutic relief, and a source for human joy and entertainment. However, animals are being tortured and treated cruelly for the sake of human prosperity all over the country. Animal testing as a means of researching medical advancements and product quality for consumers is a large problem in today’s society. The research experiments executed with animals in the name of scientific discovery call into question the compassion and integrity of the human spirit. If we do not put an end to animal testing in the United States, many animals will suffer in anguish through the torment inflicted upon them in a product testing lab. Product testing on animals should be illegal, because animals are killed or kept in captivity their entire life, substances that are tested on animals may never be released for human use, and there are alternatives available to testing on animals.
It is a reasonable thought to think that humans as a society must respect the environment around them in order to have balance. Balance as in knowing what is moral and just and what is blatantly wrong. Sadly, this is nothing more than a thought. Abuse towards the environment, especially animals, is present everywhere. Whether it be through emotional pain, physical pain, or the extent of the abuse, mistreatment of any animal should not be tolerated and should be brought awareness to. It is up to us to decide what should be done about it and figure out how we can better our environment, instead of causing more pain. I believe that this is a much more reasonable thought and can eventually benefit every person and animal alike.
The use of animals in medical research began in the early years of physicians such as Aristotle (384-322 BC), Erasistratus (304-258 BC) and Galen (129-199/217 AD). These physicians performed experiments on animals to understand things such as anatomy and physiology. An experimental method for testing surgical procedures was introduced by Ibn Zuhr, an Arab physician; surgical procedures were carried out on animals before it was applied to human patients.
