Today’s world it’s all who has the fastest cars, fastest smartphones, and get rich fastest. When one takes a look back in time, one can realize that even back in ancient times were about speed. A great example would be the world’s oldest and largest public racetrack in Rome called the Circus Maximus. At one point the Circus Maximus could have seated 250,000 spectators watching the chariot races. Some researchers state that the first horse races may have been held in 6BC. Still today one can see a horse not far from Neptune. The closes horse track which is Monmouth Park Race Track is under fifteen minutes in Oceanport. This sport has remained mostly unchanged since the earliest times. Jockeys and Roman charioteers took a great deal of care for their horses. Roman also import different breeds, and knew which breed worked best for each type of race.
Together with today’s horse races, NASCAR had also borrowed some traits with Circus Maximus. Circus Maximus also had laps, which a racer had to close the finish line seven times to finally when. Seven wooden eggs were used as lap markers. Each time a racer crossed the finish line, an egg was removed time the last egg. Even today NACAR laps can be up to 500 laps long. When charioteer or horse won over a thousand horse races they were called a miliarius meaning milestone. Similarly with NASCAR today, 12 chariots would take part in a race, they were divided into four teams Blue team, Green team, White team and Red team. In NASCAR each racer was part team, but the problems arise, does the team win or does the charioteer win? Ricky Bobby said, “You can't have two number ones.” Even though there were teams, each rider were trying to place first in every
Even though any breed is allow to participate in barrel racing, the American Quarter horse is the most predominate breed in the sport mainly because it is the most versatile of all breeds and has the speed and agility to bend around the barrels. When it comes to types or bloodlines of the horse it is more of a personal opinion. A competitor can choose a horse that is more for racing in order to provide a faster horse or a cutting horse that is will provide more maneuverability and a smaller bend around the barrels. One good ideal is to pair racing and cutting bloodlines in order to produce a horse with the ideal combination of speed and agility.

As history tells us, in the Roman days, the competitors had to be in superb shape in order to compete in the activities and sports of that time. What about Hercules and the characters of the Roman time period. Chariot races could be considered the beginning of auto racing or even motocross. The chariot rider ...

In theory, political campaigns are the most important culmination of the democratic debate in American politics. In practice, however, the media shrouds society’s ability to engage in a democratic debate with unenlightening campaign coverage. Because of this, it is difficult—if not impossible—to have educated political discourse in which the whole, factual truth is on display. After years of only seeing the drama of presidential campaigns, the American public has become a misinformed people.
The American horse racing industry has been admired by generations upon generations. Although it is a very cherished sport, like any other sport, there are many issues involved. The major issue that I find is that many owners make the decision to breed when there are other solutions. The Jockey Club, also known as the head council for the American Horse Racing Industry, should be addressing the major issue of overbreeding in the American horse racing industry.
In the latest years, greyhound racing has gained negative media attention, whereas in 2015 the abc four corners revealed that several owners and trainers were using live baits as a training form for the dog to gain a competitive advantage (Hanna, & Clark, 2015). Another issue concerning the sustainability of the industry is the mass greyhound killings because they were considered too slow (Hanrahan, 2016). Due to all the issues concerning the industry, New South Wales were set to ban Greyhound racing in 2016. Nevertheless, the ban got overturned due to political populism and the economic benefits and the numerous livings the sport provides for. The government now searches for other solutions to make the industry more sustainable. Still, frustrated
the day of the event, there were about ten to twenty four races. Just like today there were many
Have you ever been to a horse race? Seeing the riders give their horses a pat and an apple after the race, people cheering for their horse as it runs rapidly to the finish line? Seems like a great time. But what happens to those horses after they are done their race. What happens to the people who gambled their family’s lives savings. All horse racing should be shut down due to the well being of the horses, the effects of gambling, and the lack of interest.
The talk of building a racing circuit came when Camille Jenatzy won the Gordon Bennett Trophy in a 90 horsepower Mercedes in 1903. With that win Germany had to host the 1904 and did so with full support of Kaiser Wilhelm II. With the success of the 1904 Gordon Bennett race in Germany and its popularity led to the introduction of Germany’s own race series the Kaiserpreis race series in 1907.
Equestrian Riding, also known as horseback riding is a sport. Some people may argue that is not because they think the horse is doing all of the work. However that is not true. People do not realize that it takes a lot of to ride a horse and the rider does a lot of work as well and its good exercise too.
The first day was devoted to both religious sacrifices, where the sacrificed 100 oxen, and a trumpet competition. The second day consisted of various foot races, the rules were practically the same as modern-day racing, with the first to finish the required number of laps being the winner. The first race was called the stadion, the second and third were 2-4 stade races, and the fourth race had the runner’s run in full body armor (Ancient Greece - Olympic Games.). This was known as the Hoplite race, or the Hoplitodromos which was the last race to be added into the Olympics, being added in the 65th Olympic Games, in 520 B.C. Unlike the other races they ran in the nude wearing only a helmet, shield, and greaves his would be continued until the end of the Olympics games. (Greek Hoplitodromos (Race) - Health and Fitness
At this Olympic Games, a naked runner, Coroebus (a cook from Elis), won the sole event at the Olympics, the stade - a run of approximately 192 meters (210 yards). This made Coroebus the very first Olympic champion in history. The ancient Olympic Games grew and
...ter swimming event was held, as was a 200-meter obstacle event and 200-meter team-swimming event. The 200-meter backstroke also made its debut. In 1904, the first breaststroke event was contested at a distance of 440 yards. There are a lot of events and tons of records that have been broke. A lot of Olympians have set future goals to stride for.
In 776 B.C. the only stadium built was Olympus and only one race was held there, the stade race, which was the pre-eminent test of speed, covering the Olympia track from one end to the other basically a 200m foot race. In the 5th century B.C., the Games were extended again to cover five days. The ancient Games included running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, and equestrian events.
