Have you ever played a game or heard of flag football? Flag football originated from soccer and rugby, and is a version of American or Canadian football where the fundamental rules of the game are similar to those of the common sport. However, instead of actually tackling players to the ground like in the game of American football, flag football requires the defensive team to remove the flag which is dangling from the left and right side of the ball carrier’s body in order to end a down. To start off you must have two teams which consists of equal amount of players in each side, but preferably seven players on each side. All players must wear their flags visibly clear on top of any clothing at all times, or else the team may receive a penalty, which would cost them a loss of 5 yards. All efforts must be made to reduce heavy contact and any contact other than removing the flag against a passer in a passing motion is a penalty. There is no punting or kicking, the opposing team takes possession on its own fifth yard line. Every play must start with a center snapping to another player and all players are allowed to be the receptions. Before each play, teams have thirty seconds to huddle and discuss strategy, if a team goes beyond time time limit and they may lose a down. If a defensive player catches a pass in the air, it is ruled an pass interception, and the defensive team gains possession of the ball. Similarly, if the offensive team drops the ball after demonstrating that they have control of it, or pitches the ball backwards and it bounces on the ground, it is ruled a fumble. Fumbles are usually dead right at the spot unless, the defender recovers the ball before it touches the ground and then their team gains possession of the football.
